Chapter 48 - The King

The guard unfortunately collapsed after he got out he's message and Gordan let him fall to the ground with a thud. He ran his fingers though his hair and realised that at some point his hair tie had come out which made him click his tongue as he noticed that his hair was starting to fall into his eyes. He pushed it out of his eyes but it emediatly fell back down again. He took off his pack and rummaged through it in order to find another hair tie. As he did so the note from the villagers silently fluttered to the ground next to the General who quietly picked it up and looked at it curiously. He wondered if he should give it to Gordan emediatly, but he had the feeling that he needed to read it. He started to wonder why but then the feeling only became even stronger until the idea was filling his whole mind. A bit annoyed by this he carefully opened up the note and began to read its contents. Once he had finished reading it he was frowning, he looked up at Gordan who was still surching for somthing in his pack, which the General assumed was a hair tie, somthing like that was almost enough to make it look like Gordan hadn't changed a bit. But from what he knew of Gordan he wasn't someone who took betrayal so well, and even though he really didn't know all that much about what the relationship between the village and Gordan, but the contents of the letter were strongly implying that they had betrayed him. He watched Gordan carefully as he finally found what he was looking for, which did indeed turn out to be a hair tie, he pulled his hair back and secured it with the tie. The General knew that one thing that Gordan was very particular about was keeping his hair out of his eyes. In the past the General had asked him about it but he had avoided the question. But he noticed that usually he became much more fussy about his hair if he was thinking about something a lot.

Gordan was a bit annoyed for whatever reason, but he thought that it mostly had to do with knowing that the kingdom had been rapped up in somthing so annoying, what ever the reason, he wanted to get out of this kingdom as soon as humanly possible so that he could go through with his new objective. He felt someone staring at him and he looked over at the General who was holding a piece of paper in his hand that looked very much familiar to him. The General held out the paper to him.

"Here, this fell out of your bag."

Gordan remembered the note that had been sent with him and tried to hide a scowl. Drake let out a sigh looking at the fallen guard who hadn't moved an inch since collapsing. He couldn't tell how somthing like this might cause to much of an issue later but it was still a possibility.

"Well, hadn't we better head over to the king? After all you want to get this finished quickly right?"

=Sigh=

Gordan nodded his head and slipped the note back into his pack.

"You do have a point there, we don't want to keep the king waiting."

He looked over at the General.

"Are you coming with us, or do you have other business to attend to?"

The General shook his head. and still with his grim expression he stood to his feet as Gordan re-ajusted the pack on his back.

"Well then, I'm sure you have somthing you wish to discus with your nephew, but remember I just have to get my message to him, and then I plan on leaving straight after that."

Suddenly, somthing seemed to come to his mind, because Gordan stopped reacting, then his eyes focused again and he turned back to the General.

"I almost forgot, there is a white horse in the stables at the inn we were staying at, it shouldn't be all that hard to find, if you would please look after it."

The fact that Gordan was asking in such a polite manner scared the General, but also got across that for some reason Gordan ment for him to take the best of care for the animal. So he nodded his head in agreement. Then Gordan looked between both the General and Drake before sighing.

"One more thing, I think that it would be in both of your best interests to not be in the capital tomorrow morning."

This statement confused both of the listeners greatly, but neither of them decided to ask about it. Gordan smiled thankfully that none of them had asked what they were so obviously curious about, but they would find that out in the morning and if they followed his advise, they would not regret it.

Gordan turned away from them and began to walk out of the door. He really didn't want to deal with the king again since that would undoubtedly mean having to deal with the hero again. When he had heard that the stupid individual that had tried to swing a sword at him earlier was the hero he had held back the desire to laugh. Of all of the heros he had ever encountered this hero seemed to be average at best in terms of ability. But if the heros summoned in the kingdom did indeed have the inherent trait of possession like Orion suspected that would most likely be enough to balance him out as a minor threat.

As they walked though the halls Gordan noticed that people were starting to pop out of the wood work, guards and staff alike. He also noticed the occasional glances of some of the guards toward Drake, but no one made a move forward for whatever reason. When they reached the throne room the door had about fifteen soilders standing at the ready. Gordan stopped himself from smiling at this, did the king really think that changing those who were to protect him would change anything?

The soilders saw the General and emedeatly moved to the side for them to come through.

"The king has been expecting you for some time now, you would be wise not to make him wait any longer than neccessary."

Gordan smiled politely to the soilder and silently passed by without responding. The throne room was a bit darker than it had been before and in the seat next to the throne sat the hero now missing the cast that he had been wearing earlier. When the hero saw Drake he snarled a bit and leaned close to the king whispering somthing to the king who looked meaningfully at Drake. After a minute of quiet conversation the king sat strait up in his throne and looked down on the three of them with a rather concerned expression.

"Well envoy what is it that requires our emidiat attention, know that if this is somthing trivial then you will be thrown out without a second thought."

Given his new found confidence Gordan guessed that they thought that they would be able to handle him. He made a quick sweep of the room and saw that there were many people all over the room hiding in wait to attack at the smallest provocation. Gordan smiled to himself, earlier the king had been lax with security since he didn't think anything would happen. Gordan guessed that the reason why it took him so long to call them back, had somthing to do with this little surprise. Gordan found it to be quite the amusing attempt, he knew that the king couldn't have that much experience, but he never thought that he was this naive. Gordan took a deep breath and handed the pages to a person that was positioned next to him in the guise of a page, but it was obvious that it was a soilder, to the point were Gordan felt like the king was insulting his intellect a bit.

"Your highness is much to kind, but I doubt that you will find this matter to be trivial, since in all likelyhood it directly concerns your kingdom as well as the village."

Gordan was quite aware that the king most likely thought that the complaint would be about the ants which he had ordered to be placed in the forest, and the look of shock that crossed the kings face briefly as he read through the report made Gordan's smile widen ever so slightly. He felt a small tick in the back of his mind as he felt the figure in his mind began to hiss after seeing this fact. Gordan ignored it since he knew that the figure was not likely to do anything rash at this point since he had technically already gotten revenge for the horses almost murder.

The General, who was standing next to Gordan silently shivered in fear at the tone of voice that he had just heard. It was the one that Gordan used when he was speaking to someone that he was about to pulverize for insulting him or his unit. And even after all that his foolish nephew had done, he suddenly felt a bit sorry for the smug idiot, who had no idea that his life at this moment was in quite a bit of danger.
