Chapter 20 - Sleep Is Key

The eyes on the rooftop belonged to yet another of the master's summons who had witnessed the entire encounter with Mara and been both shocked and confused at the outcome. Though they had come in at the middle so they had missed the conversation that the two of them had, what they witnessed was odd enough as it was. Given Mara's failure and possible death, they desided that the best thing for them to do would be to report back to the master and find the best course of action from there. They knew that he wouldn't be happy about their failure but they did not think he would like to potentially lose even more subordinates.

Gordan looked around but the village was rather confusing to his tired mind so he found a nice rock wall at the back of the village which was used for rear defence and was almost a sheer wall, save for some small nooks and ledges that were to high for them to get rid of.

Gordan laced his fingers with magic and quickly climbed up to a small ledge that jutted out enough for him to comfortable lay dow on. Gordan situated himself on the ledge so that he would be almost invisible to anyone that would be below and then waited for the result of using magic for the third time in a day. He was quite happy to learn that the penalty was nothing more than his vision going out to the point where he could only see blurry shapes.

As these side affects were only temporary Gordan had over the years experienced just about all of them and had several that he preferred to get. Gordan smiled to himself as he closed his eyes, he hugged the small egg near himself and thought about one of his earliest experiments with magic. It had consisted of him using magic to fix the problems that using it gave him while seeing how much his body could take before he collapsed. Unfortunately the experiment was a failure since he would collapse after a while and was never able to remember how many he had done after a certain point.

Just as he felt himself drifting into sleep he felt a rather uncomfortable dealing and opened his eyes, but really he didn't know why since he couldn't see anything anyway so after a minute he again closed his eyes ready for sleep.

Then the uncomfortable feeling came back again and Gordan remembered the thing that he had forgotten to ask Zero about. The thing that had been annoying him at that moment was a gnat, which made him think of how he had killed the other knat that had made his life miserable while in prison. The thing that that brought back into his head was the way that the time had stopped around him and only the former king and himself had been able to move.

It was one of those things where you have the opportunity to get a question answered but then you don't remember that you wanted to ask it until later when the question couldn't be answered.

=Sigh=

Gordan was still tired and didn't have the energy to deal with that thought now, but he knew that his morning self would be quite upset with him for withholding information from him. It was for Gordan an emotional and physical battle that he soon became even more tired. To give himself a message and then sleep or to just sleep. He started to move his hand to mark the rock in some type of warning for himself but his arm gave out and he was left with one arm uselessly dangling over the side of the ridge which was rather uncomfortable, so he slowly and with rather high effort he was able to pull back his arm.

To think that he would get this tired was alittle upsetting to Gordan, but he shrugged his shoulders and finally went to sleep, slowly closing his eyes ready to fade into peace, but as soon as he closed his eyes he opened them in his mental world. Looking around he saw that the black mist was back again as all consuming as it had been the last time he had come to this place.

He blinked several times since in this place he didnt have the injures that were in the physical world, and then he put his head in his hands and let out a sigh as a realization dawned on him. Zero had said that the way to enter the place was falling asleep, which was also the way to get out of the mind as well, which ment that no matter what he did he would always be awake. It was quite the depressing thought for Gorda. who was just starting to get a good feeling about his sleeping habits.

He wanted to kick himself for not thinking of something so stupidly idiotic.

Around him the mist began to become agitated in the same way that he was, he heard it and looked up to see that the surrounding had started to change. What was just an empty space filled with mist was starting to take the shape of something dark and twisted. Black sand formed at his feet and dark twisted mountains began to emerge from the ground covered in brambles.

Gordan raised his had to pinch his other arm which caused the mist to grow even more violent. rivers of dark liquid that Gordan assumed were blood began to flow in the valley and from the mountains.

Gordan took a deep breath and calmly released the air, to fill his mind with calm thoughts. The mist began to calm down as well until it was softly swaying back and forth, and small bits of grass began to form in places on the ground.

The other scenery stayed about the same but as Gordan calmly looked around he noticed that he had missed the giant pit that had at some time or another desided to spawn, the only reason he noticed it was becouse he had almost fallen into it while he was walking around the area. He looked down at the pit and frowned wondering what in the world could have happened for something like this to have formed. He wished he had a rock to see how deep the thing actually was. As soon as he had thought it the mist began to move forming a rock just large enough to fit in his hand. He stared at the rock for a minute before realizing that this was the inside of his head, and he assumed to some extent it was also similar to a dream world, which ment it was like he was having a lusid dream in which he had no very little limits to hold him down.

Playing around with the idea for a moment he picked up the rock and thought of it as a small apple, almost instantaneously the rock changed from a rock into an apple which Gordan took a bite out of. It was a bit on the bitter side but Gordan hadn't specified that the apple had to be sweet, he took a mental note that he would have to be careful in specifying what exactly he wanted to appear.

Thinking over this he put his hand into his pocket and found that the egg was now in it, remembering what had happened last time with Zero's world he theorized that the materials of this world were much better for the development of the egg, he also realized that ment that he could fill it with all of the knowledge and information that he had stored in his own mind. He was starting to get a bit excited thinking about all of the things he could now try since he would technically be awake for twenty-four hours a day, some of which he would have access to literally anything that he could think of.

Suddenly he felt the same feeling that he had when entering the world that Zero had made , the mist began to act violently again as he passed through the invisible wall once again. The pull wasn't anywhere near as bad as when it had been zero but the reason that he didnt fight it was becouse it happened so suddenly. The next thing he knew he was in a rather simple garden outside of a quaint little cottage.
