Chapter 20 - Chapter 17

Ayana-

I hadn't spoken to Tristan in a few days and this time he was avoiding me. I hated it and regretted pushing him away. I admitted a long time ago that I liked him now I pretty sure he hated me. Whenever we walked into the same room, he would avoid eye contact and do everything to making sure we never had to work together.

I hadn't seen his brown eyes or his annoying smirk in days and I was going crazy. And it was all my fault.

I had pushed him away and I had to deal with the consequences.

All week we had been planning to sneak into the prison looking for the six. All evidence had pointed to them being held there by the White King. Or at least that's what John told us. Now that I was thinking about it John mostly what to do and where to go, he decided what was right and wrong.

I thought this mission was to see if we had the ability to become real legit warriors. No to see if John could handle a couple teens by himself.

I sighed leaning back into the seat of the car. All six of us were crammed into one car driving to the ball once again. John was driving this time and we were all wearing dark gear instead of sparkling gowns and masks.

Tristan was up front far away from me as usual. I was sitting next to Alex who was busy watching the snow covered roofs as we drive by.

When we were training he had become new sparring partner since Tristan and I weren't on speaking terms. I could see it bothered him but he never approached me about it. Alex was nice but every time we practiced it always endedup with him on his back out of breath.

It was actually turning into a routine for us. We talked some but never a lot, I knew he had quite a few brothers and sisters and how much he loves Lily. Like a lot.

Whatever conversation we were having she would suddenly pop into it taking over the whole topic. It was sweet how much he cared, which only made me realize how lonely I am. Way to get all sentimental Ayana.

The car suddenly stopped and the doors immediately opened. All of us filed out the car dropping into the snow. We had on thick gear to keep us protected from the weather. Though if  I had to be honest I was feeling a little hot myself.

I ignored the feeling even though I could feel sweat gather on the back of my neck.

I looked around us, were in the back of the building of the ballroom where Lily and Alex had found the hidden prison. There was a passage way that lead somewhere underground.

John turned to us clapping his hands. "This is what you have been waiting for. I want you to go down there and rescue those six like your life depends on it because it does. Because one you find the mission will be over and the closer you get to going home to your families."

We all nodded getting serious at the mention of our homes. That's what really mattered to us.

"I want you to split in two as you go down there. It better that way. So.....Liliy with Alex, Sarah with Taylor, and Ayana with Tristan."

I froze at his words. Looking over at Tristan his face was unreadable, and he was looking but at me. John motioned for us to follow him as he led us to the tunnel.

He moved out way the nodding as we left him behind. The six of us traveled down the dark path stopping the one path turned into the three. We had to split up.

I turned to the group, "Okay each of will go down the paths and if we don't find anything in 30 minutes we come back to this exact spot. Got it?" They all nodded agreeing with me.

"And remember don't get caught." I added as we eachnwent down our own path.

I could see Tristain in the corner of my eye as we walked down our path. It was dark but with our vision I could almost clearly.

His expression looked dark like he was thinking immensely. All I could hear was the steps of us crunching rocks under our feet as we continued.

I sighed hating the silence, even though I had no I idea what to say.

Tristan looked at me reading my expression. He turned back with a raised eyebrow, "Can stand being next to me that much, huh?"

I looked over at him surprised at his words, he hadn't said anything to me all week and this was first thing to come out if his mouth.

"What makes you think that," I said shocked.

He shook his head looking around for anything other than darkness.  "Nothing Ayana, just forget I said anything."

Oh I was not forgetting.

"What makes you think I don't want to be next to you," I asked persistent.

Ahead there was a small yellow light we walked faster as Tristain answered.

"I don't know Ayana maybe it was the fact that you literally called me out for  worrying about you, or shutting me out when I wanted to talk you. And let's not forget the fact how every time we trained these past few days you were always with Alex." He sighed taking a deep breath. I didn't know he was that upset about this.

If I did know I would have talked to him ages ago. Seriously.

Seconds later we were met with a dim light in a circular cave. All around us were metals bars departed to look like cages. There was no there or inside them. It was empty. A dead end.

Tristain walked to the cages double checking them, as I stayed and looked around more. In the middle of the room was a table and something blue caught my eye.

I walk to it going closer. The closer I got the colder it seemed to get. The air got chilly and my eyes seemed to water slightly.

It was like I was in a trance when I opened my hand to the blue floating orb. I could hear Tristain calling my name, but it seemed like he was miles away.

My hand got close enough and I leaned forward touching the blue coldness.

Immediately I was blown back smashing against the cave wall.

All I saw was white as I slipped into oblivion.
