The silence was deafening. Assana's eyes widened as she repeated to herself the words the Amos had just said. Joash tensed up as if recalling a bad memory. Her mother had also tensed up and reached over to grab her shoulder gently.
"I think my daughter would rather stay here. Her best friend and our family live close by. I'm afraid that she would feel homesick rather quickly."
Amos didn't bother to look at the worried Sienna as she stated her opinion. He only smiled at Assana, knowing that she was internally battling herself on what option was better.
Assana hesitated before speaking up, "Sir, I'm honored by your offer, but I have already promised Ahe that we will attend the same school."
His smile faltered for a few seconds before returning once more. "Are you talking about Ahe Nightingale? I also want him to attend our school. Is he, perhaps, the Ahe you're talking about?"
Speak of the devil and he shall appear. Ahe walked down the stairs with a huge pink hoodie and black sweatpants. He went to the kitchen and grabbed an apple before sitting next to the silent Joash. "What are we talking about?"
Rolling her eyes, Assana took a bite out of Ahe's apple despite his protests. The old man was patient enough to explain everything to Ahe, resulting in making him silent as he thought about all of the possibilities they could gain from simply just enrolling in this school.
"Can't you give us some time to sort up our options? No offense, but we want to find a school that will truly help us become better people," Ahe spoke up after a few short minutes of silence. The boy next to him looked at all of the people present before opening his mouth to speak up.
"Trust me, as a fellow student of this school, I can assure you that we are able to provide anything that you'll ever need."
His voice was soft and soothing. Assana expected no less from the mysterious and quiet boy, but his voice actually exceeded her expectations. Despite this, there was something about the tone of his voice that made Assana feel that saying yes wouldn't be the right choice. What he had just said sounded forced, but neither her mother or Ahe was able to notice this. Assana's mother instantly calmed down after hearing what he said and showed a small smile, slowly trusting the people they had just met.
Ahe, on the other hand, wasn't as easy to fool like Sienna, but he was still taking Joash words into consideration. The hunt for a new school could finally end if they just accepted this man's offer.
"Besides, this opportunity is super rare and will only be given to you once. Also, you'll only have today and tomorrow to decide."
Quickly turning her head to look at the old man, Assana's eyes widened in surprise. Only two days? That isn't enough time for her to decide! She also wished to look for more options, however…
Sighing, Assana rubbed her temples. "Give me the details and we'll decide. You can come back tomorrow and we will give you our answer."
The old man nodded happily, a huge smile on his face. Yes, even he knew that this was kind of rushed, but the talent that these kids possessed was magnificent! He couldn't let this opportunity pass by!
Standing up, the two males began walking outside. The boy walked a few steps behind Amos before stopping and looking backward. His eyes locked with Assana's for just a few seconds before he turned away and walked outside.
His eyes were hidden by his hair, unfortunately. She wasn't able to gaze into his eyes and see what color they were. Curiosity began filling up her entire being as she sat down and began to think about the sudden offer. Is it a good idea to leave her mother behind for this school?
Feeling Assana's insecurities slowly grow, her mother draped an arm around her and showed her a small smile.
"This is your life, dear. You are the only person that decides what you should do with your life. However, it would be a great idea to sign up for this school. It's a huge opportunity."
Ahe nodded, agreeing wholeheartedly. "Hey, they gave us the chance to go together! We don't have to go to different schools anymore."
Confidence began brewing up inside Assana as she grinned. Her best friend and mother are supporting her till the end, there's no need to feel bad. However, these thoughts were the main cause of her family's downfall, but she does not know this yet.
***
It was already late in the afternoon when Assana began to think about the sudden proposal. Both Ahe and herself were given pamphlets full of the information that they needed to judge the school and the situation.
The school that Amos ran was indeed a very good one. There was a wide variety of things to learn, meaning that the students wouldn't be forced to take any specific classes. From science to math, to art and literature, this school tried its best to include as many courses as possible. If a student wasn't well versed in math or science but is talented in arts and literature, he can take simple math courses while taking as many art courses he would like.
The classes all varied in difficulty, every student is forced to at least take one science and math class, but he could choose how difficult the course would be. Meaning that if he isn't good at math, he can take a simple course that will teach him the basics and most used mathematical equations.
This fact is extremely useful for Assana, especially since she had no passion for science nor math but was extremely passionate about literature. She may not write often, but it was still a very enjoyable hobby that she wished to nurture.
Not only that, but they also offered an incredible sports system. Assana herself is a soccer player, and this made her feel more inclined to approve of this school. It really offered many great things and had a very diverse structure and this could really help her find what she wanted to be in the future.
