Waking up in an unfamiliar room, Assana cautiously swept her eyes around the room. After seeing that there was no danger, she closed her eyes and rested. Memories of what had happened came rushing in like waves, not letting her think properly. What was it that she felt exactly when she touched the egg?
Realizing that she didn't have the egg with her, she quickly shot up and began to frantically search everywhere. Assana stood up from the bed and searched inside every cabinet and under every bed, but she wasn't able to see the egg.
"Damn it," she whispered to herself in frustration as she took her hair in her hands and pulled on it roughly, making it sting. She doesn't even know if Amos took it away. If he took it, then finding the egg and convincing him of giving it back to her would be an extremely hard mission, but not impossible.
Rubbing her now sore head, she grabbed her belongings and walked outside the room to find many people walking around. Was she still inside the school perimeter? Assana remembered the private tour Amos had given her.
"Ah, so I was at the nurse's office… what a great way to start my new adventure."
Assana took her phone out and called Ahe. At first, she didn't receive a reply, but a few seconds later he called back.
"Assana! God, are you okay? You worried me back there!"
"Where are you?" she asked, heading straight to the point. It felt too uncomfortable to be left alone in such a big place, especially since everyone already had a group of friends or were talking to someone, making her feel lonely and left out.
"I'm on my way to see you. You're still at the nurse's office, right? I'll see you there."
Not letting her respond, Ahe hung up the phone without a second thought. Assana sighed in annoyance yet smiled. At least she had someone beside her. She was lucky that Amos wanted both of them and not only her.
Assana only had to wait a few minutes as Ahe had rushed to find her. His face glistened in sweat and his cheeks were flushed, clear indicators that he ran as fast as he could to catch her in time. He placed his hands on his knees and took in a big breath of air.
Snickering, Assana bent down slightly in order to look into his eyes. "Wow, you really were worried! I would've thought that you didn't care since you weren't with me while I was passed out…"
Ahe blushed in embarrassment and glared at Assana. "Don't you dare say that to me. Amos forced me to meet put roommates. Besides, he was about to take away the egg you were holding, but I convinced him that you took it from home."
As he said this, he looked inside his bag and took out the egg Assana was frantically looking for. A bead of sweat ran down her spine as she gently took it from Ahe's hands, letting out a sigh in relief.
"Thank you, really," Assana said as she stared at Ahe with gentle eyes, making him blush.
"D-don't worry about it. It's my job as your best friend to protect your things as if it were my own."
Ahe smiled at Assana, his heart swelling in pride. He always yearned to receive this reaction from her. Every time Ahe managed to look at her gentle eyes, his heart warmed up. He has seen Assana at her worst. Being able to see her this happy and relieved made him feel like he finally did something to make her feel proud of him.
"Anyways, you won't believe who are our roommates. You'll be shocked!"
The roommate system is quite weird here. Instead of having one roommate like a normal residential school, you actually have three. Basically, four people will live inside the same room. This sounds like a pain in the neck, but the space provided is comfortable enough for the people living inside.
Ahe told Assana that the faculty chose the most intelligent people and gave them the bigger rooms that also include TVs and the beds were much more comfortable. Thankfully, they were one of the lucky ones and they received such treatment.
"I don't like how this works. Basically, it's like the strong are above the weak."
Ahe smiled sadly and nodded. "Adults implant the ideas that only the strong survive or receive the best things. It's getting quite old, isn't it?"
Finally, the pair of friends reached their new dorm. Opening the door, they found suitcases littering the floor as two guys cleaned up the room.
"Assana, you remember Ethan and Loki, right? They will be our roommates from now on!"
Hearing their names, Ethan and Loki turned to look at them. "What a coincidence! This is awesome!" Ethan cried out as he clapped his hands enthusiastically. Loki, on the other hand, nodded calmly at Assana. This was a silent sign of him accepting her and Ahe into their lives. This made her smile and nod back.
"This will be fun. What should we do first?" Ahe asked as he helped Assana with her things.
"It's obvious. Let's accommodate ourselves first and then we can get to know each other."
Ethan looked towards Loki and nodded in approval. It was nice to see his closed-off friend warm up to the idea of getting to know their new roommates. Assana thought about it for a while and nodded.
"It's best to get along. We will be living together, after all."
Ethan and Ahe laughed and Loki let out a small smile. It will actually be interesting living with these people. What will her life bring her now? Assana deeply hopes that they can all get along nicely and help each other out.
"Hey! Give me back my bag!" Ahe screeched out as Ethan ran around the room laughing loudly. Assana and Loki also joined in on the fun, teasing Ahe as he huffed in annoyance. This new change isn't that bad after all.
