Chapter 22 - The Beginning [Naomi]

I woke up. "AKUMARA! IT STARTS TODAY!" Akumura looked at me, "Oh, right. Well, I'm guessing you're ready."

"AM I?! I WORE THE CLOTHES I'M GONNA FIGHT IN TO BED!"

"I can see that. Are you really going to go without a shirt?"

"Of course I'm gonna wear something over this! A sports bra is just, more flexible." I grabbed a hoodie and put on a pair of tennis shoes, "Well, I'm ready. Meet me outside when you are." He just waved his hand.

"I'm just so excited! I mean, a week of no classes, and continuous fighting!"

"Could you keep it down Bill? I'm pretty sure they can hear you in the arena." Jamie rubbed her eyes, "Besides, you don't even look like you're ready to fight. At least everyone else is wearing something different for combat." She wasn't wrong. She was wearing a sports bra instead of a flannel shirt. Scorpio was wearing a tank-top and leggings instead of the usual t-shirt and jeans, along with that, she didn't have her eye-patch on, instead she had a pair of sunglasses with one lens popped out. Even Brit had different clothes, a t-shirt and a pair of shorts to be exact. "Well," Bill put his hands in his pockets, "I don't really need to wear anything else. Besides, part of my fighting style revolves around dealing with the restrictions of my clothes." Akumura walked from behind Bill. "What's up?"

"Wait, when did-"

"Just now." Scorpio crossed her arms, "Great. More of a reason for me to be anxious about this. I mean, I doubt we're going to be against you guys in the first round, but it's practically inevitable seeing how this school tends to group it's students." I put my hand on her shoulder, "It'll be fine, trust me. If it comes to it, we'll even hold back." Bill shook his head, "Not gonna happen. I intend to fight through the whole thing. I don't want anyone holding back."

"You sure about that?" I looked a Scorpio, "Your two strongest got taken out by us pretty easily when we sparred with them." Bill glared at me, "Whatever. I've gotten better. We should probably go, it's about time for it to start."

There had to be at least 30,000 people. I knew the school had this many people, but this was insane! Akumura and I looked at the sheet Mr. Strider handed us. "Hey Naomi, do you remember our dorm number?"

"I think it was 1-A room 42, why?"

"Because it's organized by dorm number. We're against 1-B room 37, whoever that is." Suddenly, there was a screeching noise, everyone covered their ears, then a voice came from the speakers, "Hello students! Welcome to the first Trost Academy student tournament! For those who did not get a paper from Mr. Strider, this tournament will start with your full dorm, and you will remove a member each round until you are left with only one. Those who are eliminated will be met with expulsion unless you can otherwise prove you can defend yourself." There was more feedback, "The world has changed since medieval times, but creatures from that era still roam. After an incident involving a group of students, the school board has decided that you must be able to defend yourself at least against other students. Good luck, may the odds be in your favor."

There was silence for three minutes, before more feedback came on, "Sorry about that, still working out some kinks in the microphone. If you would, please direct your attention to the main arena," Chasan was standing there with Ms. Harley, "My name is Professor Chasan, most of you are already aquatinted with me. I will be a judge and announcer of this tournament. Just a reminder that just because it is impossible for you to die inside the arena, doesn't mean that you are allowed to deal normally deadly blows." He handed the mic to Ms. Harley, "I will be the other announcer for this tournament. All magic and long-range weapons are strictly prohibited, however, melee weapons such as swords and scythes are allowed. As Chasan said, just because you cannot die in the field produced by the arena, this does not permit you to deal unwarranted fatal blows to your opponents. If you haven't already, will 1-A room 36 and 7-W room 29 make their way to the locker rooms. Good luck out there."

"Who are those?" Akumura looked at his directory, "Doesn't say what students are in the dorms."

"One sec, I think I have almost all from 1-A on my phone." I opened my notes, and looked for room 36. "Akumura."

"Yeah?"

"That's Bill."

"You sure?"

"Yeah."

"Any idea who they're fighting."

"No clue," I put my phone in my pocket, "I only have 1-A dorms. Whoever they are, I hope they put up a good fight." Akumura nodded, "Agreed. As much as I want to fight Bill again, I want this to be entertaining."
