"Scorpio!" I slapped her, "Wake up!" Her eyes opened a little. She looked around, "Did we win?" I nodded, "Yes. What was that?"
"What was what?"
"Your outburst. You know we can't die in there."
"You saw it?"
"Of course. Just because I was incapacitated, doesn't mean I was unconscious."
"Oh. Well, um. I'm not sure. About what it was." I sighed, "Fine. Just, try not to do that in the next round. If it weren't for the healing field, you would be screwed." Jamie tapped me on the shoulder, "Great to see your little heart to heart, but we've gotta choose someone to go on to the next round." Brit nodded, "She's right. As much as I hate to say it, Jamie and I are still severely unprepared for this. Not to mention you two are out best. So, who's gonna leave?" I shrugged, "Jamie, you wanna stay in?" She shrugged, "Depends, do you plan on staying in, Brit?" Brit shook her head, "Absolutely not. I've already proven to Chasan that I can defend for myself intellectually, but there's no way I can take another fight."
"It's settled then," I grabbed my sword, "Jamie, you're going to the next round with us." She lowered her head, "Alright."
We sat back down. I looked at the roster, "Hey, Naomi's on now." I looked down at the arena. They were facing a group of four people. "Great, this is going to end well," Scorpio was looking down too, "Strong as they are, they're outnumbered two to one. Are you sure they can-"
"Yes. If what I've seen from them is any indication, they're going to be fine."
"3! 2! 1! Go!" Akumura jumped around the arena, almost like his legs were replaced with springs. He landed right on someone's back, and they fell to the ground. "Mikado Kida, eliminated!" Naomi walked to another one. She said something, I couldn't make it out, but in infuriated the person. She jumped over him, and put her hand on his back. He stood there for a few seconds, then flew across the arena. "Ruuyogammine Masaomi, eliminated!" The remaining person stood at the center of the arena, completely calm. He took the two bayonets and made a cross with them. "What's he doing?" Jamie watched intently, "Brit?" Brit shrugged. "The most I know about that is it's a common symbol of the Iscariot organization. But there's no way we have someone from there in this school." Akumura and Naomi stood completely still as he started talking. They both fell to their knees, and he walked toward Naomi. "There's no way he can-" Brit's ears folded back, "He's with Iscariot."
"You mind telling me what the hell an Iscariot is?!" I looked at the arena, "Or what the hell he's doing?!"
"Iscariot used to be a big deal in the world, think Crusaders, but instead of purging Muslims from the holy land, they wanted to purge the Earth of Vampires and Demons. They're a much smaller group now, but occasionally people will show up, especially in places where the supernatural is common." She fiddled with her wand, "I'm kind of embarrassed to say, but when I was a kid, I looked up to them. My mom was killed by Vampires when I was only 9. I was taken in by former members, but was shut out when they found out that I had ties to Lucifer."
"Wait," Jamie's gaze quickly shot from the match to Brit, "You have ties to Lucifer?" She nodded, "He's, in a sense, my Grandfather."
"Wait, he's your what?!" I had my full attention on her now. "Yeah, I know. I'm not too proud of it either. What about it?" Without warning, there was a loud crash from the arena. Akumura stood in the center, his eyes glowing red. "Where's the other guy?" A body fell on the glass dome, right next to a hold I didn't notice. "Alexander Anderson, eliminated!"Akumura walked off the arena as if nothing happened. Naomi was still on her knees, barely able to stand. "Any idea what just happened?" Brit shrugged, "I wasn't paying attention because someone decided to talk about my family tree out of nowhere. Scorpio?" She shrugged, "I didn't see anything. One second Akumura was down, I blinked and Alexander had been shot into the atmosphere."
