The second day was far less hectic. The excitement had died down, and everyone had gone there in an orderly fashion. "First match of the day!" I looked at the bracket, "We're up."
"1-A 36 against 3-A 32!" We walked onto the field. There was one major disadvantage to not having Brit on our team, we had no idea what out opponents would be able to bring. It was an all male team, each one dressed like a bartender. "So, what do you think their schtick is?"
"Not a good time for quips Bill." Scorpio knew something, "They're far stronger than they look."
"Are you kidding me? They're twigs wearing suits, there's no way they they can do any damage to us, right Jamie."
"I'd listen to Scorpio on this one Bill. There's something off about them."
"3! 2! 1! Go!" I grabbed the sword I was provided. It was pretty basic, double edged, steel blade, enforced plaster grip, and "Trost" engraved on the side. Compared to Bill and Scorpio's weapons, it looked like a prop from a tv show. Bill ran at one of them, and slashed right at his legs. "Don't!" The guy fell down, but when he did, Bill suddenly stood still. "Okumura Shizuo, eliminated!" Scorpio ran over to Bill, and slapped him, "Snap out of it, come on." Bill shook his head, "Don't. No." She tripped him, and he hit his head on the concrete. There was an obvious area of impact, and he started bleeding. He jumped up, "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR?!"
"I told you not to underestimate them. I know them. When I was a kid, I was friends with Okumura," She hit one of them running at her in the stomach with the staff of her scythe, "They can trigger traumatic memories if you draw blood."
"So I have to take em out without cutting them?" Scorpio nodded, "Leave this to Jamie and me, alright?" Bill shook his head, "No dice." He kicked one of them people, who fell and hit his head, similar to how Bill did. "Bryan Raizen, eliminated!" Suddenly, the last one ran and punched Bill in the back of the head. "What the-" Bill flew across the arena, and sat there, unmoving. "Bill Walker, eliminated!"
"Scorpio, don't. I know your te-" She walked toward the guy. "Scorpio, stop." She kept walking, her scythe at the ready. "You know what's going to happen, don't." She slashed at him like she was a serial killer who finally found the perfect victim. Suddenly, she stood perfectly still. He flicked her in the forehead, and she landed on top of Bill. "Scorpio Topaz, eliminated!"
My chest started to hurt. I couldn't feel my legs. I tried to grip my sword, but none of my body would work. "Come on. I don't have all day" He had that cockiness in his voice you can only get from a elementary schooler who was about to win dodgeball. I slowly began to walk forward, and I took off the jacket I was wearing. My wings flew out, and I shot myself toward him. I made sure keep my sword backhand, as to not cut him accidentally. Right before the butt of my handle hit him, he moved out of the way, and touched his finger on the edge of my sword. I looked back, as a stream of red came out of his hand. "No!" My vision started to fade, and I couldn't move.
I walked into my house. Well, not as much a house as a large apartment ."Mommy, I'm home!" No reply. I tried to reach on the counter to get something to eat, but I was too short. "Humph." I grabbed a stool, and stood on it. There wasn't anything there. I climbed on the counter, and looked in the cupboards. I saw it, a single apple. I grabbed it, and started eating. I walked into my room, and set my backpack on my bed. Usually by now she'd be home. I looked everywhere in the house, the kitchen, my room, the living room. No sign of her. I wasn't allowed in her room, she said there was private things. "Mommy!?" Still no reply. I decided to do it. I walked to her door, and tried to twist the handle. Child-locked. One of my friends told me how to open one of these. I grabbed the sides, and twisted.
I walked in the room. It smelled bad. Really bad. "Mommy?" She was in her bed. "Mommy, I'm home." I climbed on her bed, "Mommy?" I turned her over, and there was something sticking out of her stomach. "MOMMY!" I tried to take it out, but she shook her head, "Don't. It'll make it worse."
"What do I do?"
"Do you remember the police's number?"
"9-1-1."
"Good. Call it. Tell them mommy's hurt." I nodded, and stumbled to the phone. What was wrong? What was in her stomach? I grabbed the phone off the wall, and dialed 9-1-1. "Hello, you've reached 9-1-1 what's your emergency?"
"Mommy told me to say that mommy's hurt."
"Where do you live?"
"Above the card store."
"Do you know the name of the store?" I sat and thought for a second. "Dice and Dragons."
"Okay sweetie, we'll be there right away."
I walked back to mommy's room. She was still lying there there. She was making funny noises, "Do you remember that town we used to go to?" I nodded. "Go there. Walk if you have to."
"But, aren't you going to come?"
"I'm afraid I can't."
"Why not?"
"Because, I'm going to be away for some time." She laughed a little, but inhaled sharply when she did. I grew a little taller. I felt my hair grow. "You've grown up so well, Jamie. Now, wake up."
"Mom?" Her eyes became marbles in her sockets. "Mom?" I looked at my hands. I was holding a sword. "Please, come back..." I sat next to the corpse. Lightning struck. Lucifer appeared on the other side of the bed. "I had to. She couldn't know." I felt tears falling down my face. "She couldn't know what?"
"You'll learn in time."
"SHE COULDN'T KNOW WHAT?!" I jumped at him, but he snapped, and everything went dark again.
I was standing, no, I was flying. I felt an impact on my back. "Shit!" I regained my balance. What was I doing? There was a guy in front of me. He was wearing a suit. I remembered. The tournament. Bill. Scorpio. Brit. Something was boiling in me. I didn't know what, but I couldn't stop myself now. "Huh. That's never happened before." I walked toward him. He stumbled backward, "Now, you might be mad, but is this really the time for such behavio-" I put my hand over his mouth, and lifted him, "She. Couldn't. Know. What?!" I closed my hand, feeling every tooth leave it's root behind. Suddenly, I felt myself get weak, I couldn't keep him in the air. He fell to the ground, and passed out. "Jonathan Atresoj, eliminated!" Everyone cheered. She couldn't know what? I felt tears forming, and tried to wipe them. "What was it?" Scorpio offered me her hand, "What did you see?" I shook my head, "It was nothing."
