Chapter 30 - Calm Before the Storm (1)

With the finished work of getting blood essence from that vassal kingdom, I went to the next closest one which was quite similar to the last one in terms of looks. But's it's size was a bit larger than the last, with a population of around 100 thousand. Although everyone was alarmed by my appearance, they quickly backed off with my token, so I was left alone.

Using my available symbols, I immediately infected most of the population in several minutes. In four hours, I had gotten all the blood and soul essence I needed. My pure blood essence count increased to 112 to 168. But I still haven't reached the limit, so I decided to continue on. Thanks to the token, I know there's 123 vassal kingdoms, so reaching them isn't a problem.

Several weeks later...

I finally completed my objective of collecting all the essence from the vassal kingdoms. Collecting a total of 6416 pure blood essence drops, my body felt bloated by the end. My blood moved like a moving river the size of an ocean, and it felt like I could destroy mountains with ease. After the complete transformation of my flesh from the monster cores, my blood essence capacity had tripled, it's a reason why I can reach such a number.

My souls has benefited tremendously. In fact, my soul has reached the size of my body itself and it has a far higher purity than any normal soul. My mental energies has increased six times and my willpower has doubled. Also, my divine sense can go up to 50 thousand miles. There's no longer a savage aura around me, but one of a highly knowledgeably scholar. If it wasn't for the scales, then it'd be perfect.

During this endeavor, a quarter of my Qi has been converted into Saint Qi, increasing my combat ability by a quarter as well.

But another complicated situation has arose within my body. The devour attributed flesh within my body has begun to spread. They were originally located at my stomach, esophagus, and mouth, but it seems after the massive gains of blood essence, it has begun to spread noticeably. Originally, it was only 1%, but it's grown to 8% within several weeks.

The result is my flesh is turning a very dark red, a mixture of the red, jaded, crystallized flesh and devour attributed flesh. Even the devour energy from the devour laws on my scaly shingles has permeated into my exoskeleton, turning it a jet black. But, it's now spreading pass the bones and into the veins of flesh.

It seems as though my blood is also affected, as the bright red blood has turned a 25% darker shade. The vitality is still there, but you can faintly detect devour energy within. With blood circulating around, it's turning all the flesh in my body around blood vessels a darker shade. My bone marrow is fine, but it's turned grayish compared to that very white marrow it used to be.

It has also permeated into my cultivation, as the blue Qi and brownish Saint Qi has occasional devour energy stands moving about. It's not doing anything bad to my cultivation, thankfully. Although I don't know whether it's good or bad, it's behaving like cancer and spreading to the entire body steadily. I can't stop it either way.

I came out of the last vassal kingdom that was the farthest. But things turned very strange.

The horrible winds have calmed down, to the point that it's just a very calm breeze you'd find inside normally. The misty air is quickly clearing up with and being sucked into the still raging waters. The mist has turned into a faint fog, allowing me to see a mile away clearly. Back then, it was horrible to the point that you could only see a few meters in front of you, which was less than twenty four hours ago.

With barely any winds, my speed of return was very fast, and I reached back to the Sea Phantom clan in a few hours. Upon entering, it seemed as though everybody was rejoicing that things were going back to normal.

It seems the headmaster could detect my presence, because he came over as soon as possible.

"Miss benefactor, it's good to see you've come back," he said politely.

"No worries just doing some personal things. I've settled them so I came back," I said waving it off.

"Now that this is finally settling, we should celebrate now that you're here," he said happily.

"It's too early to settle," I said shaking my head, "this isn't over, we've only entered the eye of the storm."

"Eye, of the storm?" he looked at me confused. I shook my head at his lack of knowledge of how things works.

"Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. All that water and air that has been pushed out has been moving in to fill that empty space created by those massive bodies. As a result, it's been piled up way higher than it should as a result. Since air moves way faster than water, it will come back way earlier than the water."

"Right now it's calm, but I predict that after this short period of calm, the air pressure will drop drastically, before coming in as a massive tidal wave in the opposite direction."

"I don't understand," said the headmaster.

"You'll find out soon," I said, shaking my head.

I may be lazy, but I'm not an idiot. Anybody can figure it out if they've been on a beach before a tsunami happens and has general knowledge about Newton's laws of motion. I also happened to be a big fan back then of science related things, so my knowledge got me way better grades in that field compared to other subjects.

Even though he doesn't understand, he'll know what I mean shortly, and I mean very shortly.

I was right. Very shortly later, like a few hours, the atmospheric pressure outside the formation began to drop at noticeable rates. If this happened on Earth, people with barometric pressure devices would be popping their eyeball out at such a drop in pressure.

Over the course of an hour, the pressures dropped to levels similar to what you'd experience near the top of Mount Everest. If it wasn't for the formation, people would've collapsed and probably died because the height of Everest is above the Death Zone, the point where one needs compressed air or oxygen to go any further or death is highly possible.

Not only that, but the boiling point of water has drastically dropped. The constant flows of water and air has kept the area warm despite low levels of sunlight. But now the boiling point is lower than the ocean's current temperature. The waters outside the barrier began boiling and turning into a mist of steam.

The foggy area that had cleared out a lot, suddenly became like a steamy sauna. Breathing was impossible with the current pressures, but now you'll be drowning yourself by breathing in the steam that will condense into water in your lungs.

The people's happiness soon faded away and turned gloomy once again seeing this. It would be like this for several days.
