Chapter 35 - Ice Sanctuary (1)

With the directions from Katherine, we eventually arrived at the location she mentioned after an unknown period of time. It was a huge island, larger than the ones I've seen so far. But now most of it is submerged. Only in the center is some still partially above water.

The center had a thick slab of stone that was completely rounded out and flattened with different symbols in-bedded on it's sides and surface. These symbols probably used to be dense rune formations that had a function of some sorts. But now, they're very dim with not much energy left in them.

The waves had reduced in size, but they would splash onto the side and splash water on it's surface like a beach. I approached before stopping nearby. Katherine came out with a devour shield covering her.

"This is the place right?" I asked. She looked around and slowly nodded her head.

"What do I need to do?"

"That platform is designed to conceal the entrance so it only comes out at certain times. But without a supply, it's lost most of it's reserves trying to withstand the winds. If you break it, then the entrance will naturally come out," she suggested.

Nodding my head, I floated nearby before sending out streams of devour energy. I sent them onto the surface where they quickly attacked the runes. They easily broke without much effort, and the entire platform went dark.

A bright white light appeared within the darkness, illuminating the black raindrops that flew horizontally and the large waves. Looking up, space vibrated and trembled. It ripped apart in an area before a portal opened up.

This portal wasn't very large, but enough that groups of twenty can go in at a time. It looked like a rotating whirlpool like a dark hole in the center like a black hole. Different colors of chaotic energy swirled around it before being pulled in.

But the outside world wasn't effected. It was like a domain had spread around it that made the air inside clear of anything impure.

"Are you confident you can get through?" she seriously asked.

"Yes," I said with confidence. But on the inside, I wasn't certain. I can only hope that I can get through undetected or else it'll be miserable for me.

"How do we go about this?" she asked. Right. I went into some deep thinking before coming up with a reasonable idea.

"Enter my stomach, and I'll shrink myself until there's barely enough room for you. Hopefully I can fit through the portal," I suggested. In response, she didn't seem to complain and nodded.

We both approached until we were only several meters away where the domain barrier was. Katherine retracted all her ice energy until it was at dantian gathering. She entered my stomach and I slowly shrunk myself down. I forcefully devoured all my food and cleaned out everything.

Eventually, she was reduced to a fetal position which would be enough to make anybody claustrophobic. But she was surprisingly calm.

My size is still quite large, but I can only hope as I entered the domain. A divine sense rippled through the domain. The portal expanded to my size surprisingly, so I approached. There was no signs of rejection as an attractive force pulled on my body.

The chaotic energy in the whirlpool left and surrounded my body, then I was pulled inside and surrounded by darkness. Time went by for several minutes in pure darkness.

"Is everything alright out there?" asked Katherine, who was panting heavily for air in the small space.

"I wasn't rejected and entered, but it's been nothing but pure darkness," I said.

"We're in the tunnel, it shouldn't last longer," she sighed in relief.

Sure enough, a bright light encompassed my body and I appeared out of the tunnel in an instant. An entirely different world appeared in front of my eyes.

It is an entire world of ice. Vast landscapes of snowy hills make up the landscape. So much snow is coming down that you can't see the skies at all as they're white. The temperature and winds are enough to free a mortal in a few seconds. With my laws, I could detect the overabundance of the ice energies similar to what Katherine gave off scattered in the winds. This would be perfect place for cultivator for her.

The Qi is also very dense to the likes I've never seen. There's enough that it can faintly be seen in gaseous form spread everywhere. This is a good place for cultivation.

I'm glad I have devour laws, or I'd quickly become an icicle. Expanding my size, Katherine plopped out and panted for air. It seems as though I nearly suffocated her to death. Finally catching her breath, she got up slowly without regard to her clothing before looking around the place.

"Finally! I was able to get in!" she said happily as she absorbed the ice energies without care for the temperature and elemental winds.

"Oh yeah, why didn't you enter here to cultivate in the first place?" I asked.

"Do you think it's easy to get in here? You have to be able to cultivate in order to get in here. I've only stayed an outer disciple these years because they knew my cultivation was crippled. But they took me in regardless. Otherwise, you would've never found me out there," she said gloomily.

"Well, now that we're here. What should we do?" I asked.

"I need to cultivate in here for a while. You can go search for any food if you like. The realm should only be around a hundred thousand miles for a small realm," she said as she tore parts of her dress to sit down.

I couldn't help but twitch my eyebrow. A 100 thousand miles is around 70 to 80 percent bigger than the Earth's circumference and yet she says it's only a small realm. But I have nothing else better to do, and I'm out of food.

"Here," she said, passing a strand of ice energy to me, "Laws that belong to a person are subtly different from others who use the same, so you should be able to track me even if ice laws are dominant here."

Taking it, I silently thanked her before turning into a ray of light that went into the horizon.
