Chapter 15 - Chapter 14

Katrina's POV

"Then tell us," Shaun declared after sharing a quick glance with his Elders and Amanda. "Is there someone you admire?"

"I wouldn't use the word admire," he corrected as I was almost at the door. "But yes, I have my eyes out on someone."

"Who might that be?" Luca one of the elders implored.

"Her," Davos announced as my hand reached the handle.

For the third time since I came to serve, the room grew quiet and I felt eyes digging into my back. Feeling compelled to turn around, I did just as Amanda screamed, "Her?!"

"What?" I blurted the question before I could think, the empty tray in my hand shaking.

"Yes," Davos affirmed as I fully faced him from a distance, his posture relaxed in a short sleeved brown and black designer shirt and black slacks. His chin held high, a small smile playing on his lips.

"Why?" Shaun interrogated.

"I have my reasons," he replied, golden eyes I never knew existed raking my form, his gaze still intense and it came off as if he could see beneath the shabby uniform. If not for the tray in my hand, I would have made a fool of myself by crossing my fingers across my chest in a bid to cover up. "She's the gift I'm taking with me."

"I'm afraid that won't be possible," Shaun declined his declaration.

"Why is that?" Davos implored, his head tilted to the side, gold eyes shifting from me to Shaun.

"I too have my reasons," Shaun replied in equal manner and my eyes widened hence I would never dare to disobey the man who appeared as if he could split everyone in half and not break a sweat.

If he didn't want to, he could order a large army who were under his command to burn the whole pack in a day and nothing would happen after.

I was not one to be interested in werewolves politics and the crazy food chain, however there was no way I could block my ears from the information that dropped into my head as people had different conversations in my presence.

"Will you allow that reason to cost you the peace of your pack and the life of your people?" Davos interrogated, lips tilted in an arrogant smirk.

"It's not that," Amanda intervened in the exchange. "Katrina here is someone dear to us and it would be difficult and unfair to give her out for our personal gain."

"Correction," Davos raised a finger in the air. "It's not for your personal gain but that of your pack and to create more peace between the Lycan's and werewolves so take it as a sacrifice for a good cause."

"Katrina here as my woman said is a precious person to us," Shaun joined to say. "She is a maid who is more like a family to us and it would hurt both sides to agree to it."

"Family you say," Davos tapped his finger on the armrest of the seat. "It's shocking how you treat someone you call family."

"I beg your pardon?" Shaun queried, coming off as offended.

"Don't get all worked up," Darvos chuckled dryly, fishing around with the watch on his wrist.

"Do you want any other thing aside from her?" Amanda interrogated and I wondered how she was able to speak in the midst of all these without fear or anxiety.

It was a delicate matter one I thought should be handled with care. She was not the Luna yet and therefore should have sat this one out. Even the elders were not talking as much as she was.

"She is a someone not a thing," Davos uttered, correcting them for the hundredth time and I noted him as someone who hated slip ups and mistakes.

"Again yes, she is the gift I want to take with me, in return I stall my plans to look into your pack and your actions which I had caught wind of."

"What do you see in her?" Amanda couldn't stop herself from asking in a somewhat rude manner. She happened to notice and said, "I mean what makes her special that you want her as a gift?"

"Like I said I have my reasons," Davos eyes pointed at me again, causing goosebumps to rise on my skin at his unexpected attention. "So am I taking my gift or not?"

"Sadly you are not," Shaun declared with finality, his utterance causing Davos to cock his head in his path and give him a pointed glimpse.

I was at a crossroads, not knowing if I should be glad or sad. 'Mixed feelings' would be the perfect term for it thus I would be happy to leave the shackles I was in while at the same time scared about my new environment.

"We can't allow you to take her because she is a dear one," Amanda repeated. "You can choose any other maid to go with you but not her."

"Well my choice stands," he insisted. "I don't want another."

"Then maybe we have to find another way to come this peace agreement," Shaun exhaled, his fingers rubbing his nose as Davos didn't give any sign of budging.

"Or maybe I should take my leave," Davos grunted and to my horror rose to his feet, gold eyes unwavering as they held determination and power.

"We can discuss this further if you don't mind," Shaun proposed, standing up too his expression restless at the turn of events.

"I do mind actually," Davos gave a crooked smile, nodding at his company who stood. They were three men who were of similar build as him and also good looking.

"What is the verdict Davos Ruther?" Shaun inquired as the man in question made his way to where my feet were still rooted beside the door.

"The verdict is simply," Davos stopped in his tracks, that wicked smile on his lips. "No peace treaty till I receive her as a gift."

"I know what I want Alpha Shaun. Not even you can stop me from getting what I want," he went on to say. "You have less than 72 hours to hand her over to me, else you say goodbye to any dream of peace with the Lycans."
