Chapter 17 - Chapter 16

Katrina's POV

If I thought I was in hell and being treated like trash before then I could say what I was experiencing was a little help compared to the one I was in after Davos Ruther's visit.

The insults and maltreatment had tripled and I was barely managing to stand on my two feet thus all strength was drained from my body before the day came to an end.

Aside from the chores and and heavy lifting, Amanda had set aside an hour of the day for me to be beaten up. There was no specific method however I was called into her office at a specific time of the day to receive whatever she had in store for me.

The first day was me being held by some maids while she laid me down on the desk in her room and flogged my back with a whip that of course left marks and bruises on my back. Tears poured out of my eyes till there was no wetness left in them.

After that I wasn't treated with even an ounce of care or given time to grieve or get adjusted to the pain I was inflicted, instead I was commanded to head to the river to fetch water with blood trickling down my back.

It showed on my dress as the blood soaked the material and left stains on it. The metallic scent of blood followed me everywhere I went throughout the day and no one batted an eyelid.

As for Vanessa she detached herself away from me after that day. It hurt but I wasn't that surprised thus I always felt no one is to be trusted or depended on completely.

The trait was something I had harbored since I was a child especially when I had no one to rely on. Parents who were meant to stand by me and protect me died at my birth and every friend or person I got close to always ended up leaving me after a while.

I expected a change from Vanessa but not as fast as it came. I thought we would last longer as I was really enjoying her friendship and company.

On the other hand I didn't blame her because the pressure was mounted heavily. I would have gotten scared in her shoes hence the hate and pressure was on her too for being by my side as a friend and helper.

It was the third day after David Ruther's visit with only a few hours left off the 72 hours he had given as his grace period before he carried out his next action.

There was a bit of cloud in the air as the weather was a bit windy, appearing as if a storm was brewing. It was still morning, rather the clouds and chilly atmosphere made it seem like the day was almost over.

It felt as if the heavens were giving Shaun and everyone in the pack a sign. A sign to indicate the calamity that was coming if Davos's words were taken for granted.

On my way returning from the river for the eight time that day, there was tension in the air. The pack members tried to carry on with their daily activities and act non-chalant about what was to come.

Nonetheless I could catch the nervousness and worry in the eyes of a few of them whom I had the displeasure of meeting on my way. Regardless of the worry I spotted, they still didn't hesitate to rain insults on me.

"You stink filthy Omega," was one of the insults thrown my way.

"Of course she should, who knew when last she had a good bath?" A girl questioned in a laugh, however I sensed concern in her gaze which I ignored thus it was useless as she wouldn't act on it.

"Or brushed her teeth?" The boy beside her chuckled. I simply shook my head at them and continued my trek. They were just kids so there was no way I would waste my energy on them or anyone for that matter.

I treked all the way to the pack house with a bucket in one hand and ambled to the kitchen where I heaved the bucket, pretending not to see anyone in the heated space as they observed me.

Biting hard on my button lip, I swallowed the sounds of pain that were about to leave my throat as I poured the water into the drum, my bones protesting from the strain and the bruises on my back hurting as the material of the red colored vest I had on pressed hard on it due to my action.

"If you are done with that, Amanda said to meet her in her room as soon as possible," Belinda one of the maids informed as I dropped the bucket and leaned my back on the plastic to catch a breather and let go of my bottom lip.

"I guess it's that time of the day again," I muttered under my breath, my brain going every which way as I pondered on what kind of punishment I would be given for the day.

"You know it's best to go as soon as she calls for you right?" Janice another maid reminded.

Nodding at her I hauled my body into a standing position, my gaze meeting Vanessa's in the process. She was already staring at me, pity and helplessness in her gaze.

I gave her a small smile to let her know there were no hard feelings. It was already normal for me so I couldn't feel anything against her.

Whirling around I traced my steps to the door.

Exiting the kitchen, I crossed the vast pack hall, my wornout slippers flapping on the tiles as I walked. I arrived at the staircase and gripped the rail for support as I climbed the flight of steps leading up to the next floor.

It was the floor that housed the Alpha's and, future Luna which is Amanda's rooms. Their offices, the library and some spare room for guests.

"The Alpha's study," the guard at the top of the staircase pointed out as I was about to stroll toward my right where Amanda's office was while Shaun's was on the right.
