Katrina's POV
"I'm sad and happy you are leaving us," Vanessa said as she escorted me to the black rangerover packed in front of the house, Amanda and Shaun standing a distance away, watching us.
"Same way I'm having mixed feelings," I confessed in a sigh and reached for my satchel which she insisted to help me carry.
I had filled her in briefly on what was going on while I put whatever valuables I had in the sizable leather bag. It was difficult for her to understand, nevertheless she felt anger and remorse at my situation.
She ended up apologizing after our little talk and I told her the truth about not bearing grudges at her actions however I made it clear that we could never be close again even if our paths managed to cross in the future.
It was a far fetched thought to think about crossing parts, but there was only a small bit we could predict about life. Unexpected things could happen at unexpected times.
My life was a living testament to that and though it was normal for me to feel sad, shocked and broken at times, I had learnt to see and understand things as they came.
No matter how prepared or used to the unpredictable nature of life, I sincerely hoped and prayed what was happening would be the last of the unpredictable situations I was to face.
"Here," she handed me the satchel and leaned in when I stretched a hand over her shoulders for a half hug. "I'll miss you."
"I won't lie, I will too," I beamed and took it from her, ambling the rest of the way to the vehicle.
"I hope you find yourself in a better place than here," she said sincerely and I could only nod and let out a breath in response.
One hand holding my satchel, I climbed into the backseat of the vehicle. Surprised to see Beta Mathew already settled there. I propped myself in a sitting position and gradually tugged the door of the car shut.
"Are you comfortable?" Mathew inquired as I crossed my seatbelt over my chest.
"Yeah," I mumbled shyly, not staring at him in the face.
"Can we get going?" Advisor Thomas asked and I observed him settled in the front seat. "Katrina?"
"Yes please," I announced, heaving a sigh as I turned to the window as another man in the driver's seat keyed in the ignition.
The engine revved and the glass window whined down as the driver steered the car in the angle that led unto the pack roads. I bid a wave at Vanessa who stood watching the vehicle while Amanda and Shaun were already returning to the pack house.
"This is Darren," Thomas introduced, pointing at the blonde haired man who appeared to be not a year older than a teenager. "The King's driver."
"Nice to meet you Darren," I murmured politely.
"Same here," he replied simply, his brown eyes meeting mine in the mirror briefly before he returned his attention to the road.
Someone turned on the music and the car rolled along the long crooked concrete road. My gaze remained on the window, watching the scenery unfold as we slowly exited the pack lands.
No one spoke as time went on. I briefly peered at my company and observed Mathew busy with what I think to be an iPad. Thomas on the hand was busy talking to someone on the phone.
Dean on the other hand was focused on the road. I leaned my head on the window and clamped my lids shut, the breeze from the window blowing my hair as seconds ticked by.
I got lost in my mind again as events came rushing back. From when I was little till I had come of age. The moment it all intensified was when I finally lost my wolf.
It felt as if a part of me had left and an empty space remained in my chest till that moment. The pain and discrimination got too much for Leslie that she just had to disappear.
Leslie was the name of my wolf and it seemed as if I was going to die when I couldn't feel her anymore. I called out to her to no avail that lonely night after I was battered and bruised as usual.
I don't know how long I was lost in the sadness of my mind and became detached from my surroundings. I knew I wasn't sleeping however I was so far away that during those moments it felt as if I was reliving the trauma and pain.
Time flew by and soon I felt a hand lightly brush my leg and jerked for a moment at the touch, my eyes flashing open in a bit of panic before I recalled where I was.
"Are you okay?" Mathew asked in a frown, his gaze accessing my form, curiosity and a hint of worry in his eyes at my reaction.
"Yes I am," I smiled and sat up, noticing I had slouched a bit on the seat. "Sorry I got lost for a moment."
"Weren't you asleep?" He asked with a raised brow.
"No I wasn't," I admitted and gave myself an invisible slap for that as a frown appeared on his face. "Don't worry, I do that at times."
He didn't say anything after that and instead continued to offer me a curious glance for some seconds.
"Did he disrupt your peace?" Thomas implored kindly from the front seat.
"Nothing of the sort," I tried to laugh it off, rather I couldn't ignore the piercing glimpse I was receiving from my left.
"I asked him to do so," Thomas informed.
"Oooh okay," I let out.
"We are nearing the Lycan Kingdom," Thomas explained further, calling my attention to my environment and I looked outside to see we were on a road with heavy greenery or should I forest on each side of it.
There was a buzz in the air I couldn't lay my finger on, nonetheless all I could say was I felt different.
