Chapter 21 - Chapter 20

Katrina's POV

"Beside the king's what?" I asked, my voice breaking as I ran behind her while she tugged me in whatever direction she thought was correct.

I could only catch a flashing glimpse of spiral staircase with golden handle as we climbed to the floors above and beautiful lights as I moved at that speed.

Soon we came to a halt and she beamed at me, we were standing in front of an intricately carved door with shiny mahogany wood which from one glance you could tell was very expensive.

Thomas and Mathew were no where to be seen and I couldn't blame them. I was shocked by her rapid movement in dragging me, her excitement a bit contagious and hard for me to resist as she felt like a burst of sunshine to my previously dark world.

I could faintly hear them from downstairs but Ariana wasn't paying attention. She was too focused and elated by the matter at hand. Mathew probably knowing his sister and deciding to leave her be as he didn't bother to join us upstairs and accompany us.

"Open the door," she urged and pointed at the barrier, her eyes still shining.

"My room?" I asked as if I didn't understand everything I've been told in the past few minutes.

"Yes Katrina, your room," she declared and granted me a skeptical glimpse, as if trying to figure out if something was wrong with me.

I kept mute, suddenly not knowing what was wrong with me as I momentarily lost control of my body and thoughts, blanking out for a moment.

"Katrina." She tapped my shoulder softly, her brows furrowed. "Did you hear me?"

"What did you say?" I implored in a small smile.

She exhaled a breath, and I could sense the wheels in her brain turning as she wondered if to talk about it or let it slide. She must have chosen the latter because she went on to say. "The king's room is the next door to the left here."

"Oooh," I let out and turned in the direction she indicated and I observed wide double doors. However what irked me was it was the only entrance in that direction, no other in sight.

"He's the occupant of that chamber," she revealed, observing the curiosity and question in my eyes. "He has a built in living room, bathroom, mini study and a large bed room with a whole corner dedicated to his closet and bathroom. There's even a jacuzzi."

"How do you know that?" I didn't hold in the question as it popped into my head. "Been in there?"

"Of course," she answered and burst out in a laugh. "No no not what you are thinking."

"What am I thinking?" I raised a question, both of us standing at the door like people who were confused about what was going on around them and were debating on the next line of action.

"I'm not sure but I just felt the need to correct you in case of weird thoughts," she went on to say. "Davos and Mathee have been friends since I could remember. Being Mathew's twin sister meant my parents forcing me to follow him wherever he went or him doing so to me."

"So whenever that happened the King was always in the picture," I finished as what she was trying to say made sense.

"Exactly because he and Mathew were inseparable and Mathew and I were attached by the hip since birth," she clarified. "Which meant I'd been in his room since he was kids and once or twice been in there since he became a king."

"Why lesser than before?" I asked.

"Because he is the king and we are both adults with responsibilities." She shrugged. "Anyway it's time to see your room so open it."

"Why must I be the one to do so?" I inquired.

"I want to see the look on your face when you do that," she scoffed and pointed at it for the hundredth time. "Open it."

Having no other choice, I did as told and clenched the handle, pressing it down and giving it a light shove to open up and give us a view of what was inside.

"Oh my heavens," I muttered in disbelief at the sight I was graced with. Putting one foot in front of the other, I entered into the space, light blue painted walls on each side.

It was three times the size of my previous room at Shaun's pack. A queen sized bed on the left side of the room, draped with a beautiful red flower patterned bedspread that matched with the color of the walls and the black fur carpet in the center of the room.

White curtains swayed in the evening breeze as the floor to ceiling windows or maybe they were doors stood ajar and the further I walked in I discerned there was a small balcony with a wooden chair.

In the room, there was a small door which I didn't need to be told that led to the bathroom. Beside the door was a wardrobe that I didn't dare open yet and there was a medium sized desk beside the bed with another wooden chair tucked beneath.

"This is my room?" I whirled around to face Ariana who had a huge grin as she observed my movements with an awestruck expression, my mouth hanging open and unable to shut.

"Why didn't you open the wardrobe?" She asked out of the blue and I couldn't utter anything in response. "Take a look. They are all yours. This room, wardrobe, bathroom, and everything in it was bought and kept here specifically for you."

Silently I angled my body back in the direction she was now standing and allowed my gaze to sweep over the clothes hanged in there. Different colors, fabrics, lengths and designs of clothes met my vision.

Below them were footwear, flip-flops, sandals, heels, slippers and platforms. It all seemed like a dream as I tried to process what I was seeing. I couldn't fathom how they belonged to me or why I was given such warm treatment.

"Why?" I raised a question.

"That is a question only the king can answer," she revealed. "In all honesty, we are all curious."
