Katrina's POV
I halted and turned to my left, my eyes narrowing in confusion as I asked. "Why?"
"I can see you forgot the motto in this pack," the guard murmured in reply.
"Which is?" I questioned, getting more confused. "I didn't know there was a motto we abide by."
"I guess no one told you then," the guard scoffed as he appeared at me. "You are no newcomer and should have known it."
"Well I don't so fill me in," I exhaled in a breath. "The Alpha and Amanda don't like to be kept waiting."
"Which should I do so?" He queried, finger tapping the back of his hand as he held both palms in front of him.
"What?" I asked, getting more confused by the second.
"You asked me to go ahead and fill you in," the guard reminded. "I'm trying to ask which question should I do that to."
"Both," I declared.
"The motto I was referring to, goes like this," the guard started. "Do as they say, asks the questions later or face their wrath regardless."
My eyes widened in surprise at his statement while it sank in. Truly it was the right way to behave in the pack and especially at the pack house. I had never heard of such motto, however I came to understand I had been quietly abiding by it.
"As for why you are called in the Alpha's room I have no idea," the guard divulged in response to my question. "My shift just began so I didn't observe or see any reason why neither did I hear anything."
"Okay," I bobbed my head, eyes still narrowed at him. He looked new and at the same time familiar, it was a wonder how he was talking to me in a civil manner and not with curse words or irritation. "You seem to know me and still talk normally."
"Yeah I do," he blurted and I could only watch him warrily. "However that's a story for another day."
"We are running out of time I guess," I chuckled and took out time to observe his outlook. He was a young man, maybe my age with brown curly hair, a straight nose, grey eyes and high cheekbones, he had a tall, lean figure with adequate ounce of muscle on him.
"We really are," he snorted and cocked his head in the direction of the door. "Better go in before they come out to find you."
"Thanks for the chat," I beamed at him as I directed my steps to the door. Gazing behind me I said, "and the motto."
"You are welcome," he blinked. "Goodluck in there."
"Thank you," I uttered in appreciation and inhaled a deep breath as I stood gawking at the door.
No one knew what awaited me and my insides were twisting in the fear and dread of what was to hit me the moment I entered. Moving my haired left and right, I readied my mind, shutting my eyes for a moment.
"It can't be nothing more than another punishment right?" I questioned myself in a breath to prevent any sharp werewolf hearing from picking it up.
My fingers gradually curled around the cold metal handle of the door and with any ounce of courage I had left, I twisted it and put my weight on the wood to push it in word.
All conversation in the room died the instant I walked in as all eyes turned to me once the door clicked shut behind me. My eyes scanned the room as I tried to make meaning of what was going on.
Shaun was seated at behind the mahogany desk as predicted, Amanda, standing by his side. Nonetheless what caught my attention was the presence of two other men opposite them.
As they whirled to peer at me I noted they seemed familiar and scratched the edges of my brain until it clicked seconds later that they were among the men seated on Davos's side of the table that day of his visit.
'What are they here for? Why was I called in here?' All these questions flew into my head as a series of emotions washed over me.
"You can remember Katrina," Shaun spoke, gesturing his palm in my direction, the action causing the tight-red gym wear he had on stretch on his body. "She is who King Davos claimed to have in exchange for peace."
"We were here that day Alpha Shaun," one of the men spoke and I shifted my attention to him. He had a calming aura around him and appeared a bit elderly.
He gradually lifted his weight to a standing position, his posture slightly stooped as he had hunched shoulders, grey neatly combed hair and green eyes which had a soft and compassionate glimpse as the pointed at me.
"Good day," he stretched out his hand toward me in courtesy, his lips curling into a welcoming smile. "I'm Advisor Thomas."
Hesitantly, I reached out my hand for a shake, surprised at how warm and soft he was to me in the brief moment. For the first time in a long time, I received a normal gaze and not one filled with disgust or covetousness.
"From our presence you must have gathered that we were sent by King Davos," he revealed what I already knew and my glance shifted to the other man still seated. He caught on and said. "This is Mathew, the Beta of the Lycan Kingdom."
"I'm here representing the King who can't be present due to some pressing matters he had to attend to," the man who was said to be the Beta stood, his height and posture more taller, broader and straighter than Thomas.
He was handsome and appeared to be Asian. I hadn't physically seen one but pictures I caught sight of on the newspapers and a few on the internet when I had the privilege to on errands at the cafe served as a reference.
Broad shoulders made him stand out with his bulky figure, however his black irises were stern but had a bit of warmth in them as they peered at me. "It would be a pleasure to escort you to our pack."
