Chapter 14 - Chapter 13

Katrina's POV

"Umm that would be a lie," Amanda said and broke out in a hysterical laugh which to me showed her nervousness. "Who would feed you such information?"

"Are you indirectly calling me a liar?" The man who spoke earlier questioned. His tone icy as his statement held animosity. "I'm the Lycan King and I have people at every corner ready to give me whatever information I seek."

"When they don't?" He implored, making sure there was silence for some moments. "I tend to investigate matters myself. This is to say everything I speak of has been thoroughly checked and confirmed before I take action"

"Pssss," an object poked my back and I stared behind me to see the maid with a tray following me. "Why haven't you gone in?"

"Ummm, I-"

"Move," she jabbed me with the tray. "You are not the only one who hates to be scolded and I'm in no mood for your shenanigans."

Having no choice I used my right elbow while tightly holding the tray of food and bent the door handle. I heard a click and pushed it slightly with my weight.

I instantly bowed in respect, feeling all attention shift to me before I began moving, eyes facing downward and not trying to raise my head as I approached the table.

"As you can see, we treat even our servants with the best form of civility and care," Shaun said, his finger pointing at me as I set the table while feeling a certain pair of eyes not leave my form as I did that. "This here is Katrina,"

"Just like her and Janice," Amanda continued. "Our maids are beautiful and respectful too. Why wouldn't they when they are being cared for like we do, right darling?"

"Right," Shaun rushed to say. "So I advise you disregard any form of rumor or findings you have made. I'm not calling you or your sources a liar, only that there might be a little misunderstanding somewhere."

"Even if there is that doesn't mean I'd give in to a peace treaty with your pack so easily, especially with the information I have," The man went on to say, his voice deeper as I neared his spot.

I placed cutlery in front of him and while I was making sure they were placed rightly, I felt electricity travel up my fingers as his hand brushed mine, warm breath fanning my cheeks as he spoke. "Leave it."

As if compelled, I finally lifted my gaze from the floor or in such case the table and angled my head to my right. My eyes widening and my heart doing a flip in my chest as I came face to face with the most handsome man I'd ever seen.

Gold eyes peered into my blue ones. They were deep and intense as they fixed on my face, drawing me in and it seemed like I was transfixed.

He was too handsome to exist with a sharp jaw, a straight flawless nose, thin lips that signified strictness and at the same time made me want to touch them.

Thick long hair happened to reach his shoulders which were really broad to match his large muscular form. He was built perfectly and not too buffy that he appeared scary.

"Oh sorry I-" I hurried to say once I noticed I had been staring. I tried to pull away from his face and mistakenly hit his chest with the back of my hand. "Shit- I-"

"Katrina!" Amanda screamed at me, eyes wide with anger as she momentarily forgot where or who she was with in her rage. "Don't be a bitch and—"

I cowered at her tone and was surprised as she suddenly went silent, her statement unfinished and words hanging. Gradually, I diverted my gaze in her path to see her mouth hanging open, Shaun's finger wrapped around her wrist as her green eyes were directed at the man at my right.

"Sorry Katrina," she blurted in a hesistant laugh, her gaze shifting between me and the man. "You know I flip easily and he's a guest and—"

She stopped speaking again as everyone continued to stare at her. Shaun had a blank expression on his face as he gradually pulled her back to a sitting position.

"Disregard that," Shaun directed his words at his guests not me. "My girl here has a short fuse, it's normal with women right?"

"I can't relate," the man beside me growled. "Because I won't have a woman with little or no respect mingle with me."

Tension cracked in the air as silence reigned after his utterance, his facial expression emitted hostility and I could feel chills emitting from his form due to our proximity, his presence carrying power and dominance.

"I apologise for her behavior," Shaun issued a fake smile, a bone ticking in his jaw.

"Apology doesn't cut it," he grunted in annoyance and I observed how difficult it was for Shaun to take his attitude judging by his arrogance which I knew so well.

"Then what will?" Shaun raised a question, intertwining his fingers atop the table.

In that moment I was stuck between finding an exit and at the same trying not to get myself noticed in the midst of the word battle.

"Corrections," he lectured. "Actions should accompany the words."

"Your advise is greatly taken," Shaun uttered in a calm tone. "So about the peace treaty I was referring to. Can you consider it Davos?"

"About that," Davos started as I slowly retrieved myself from his side, thankful to the heavens Janice had rounded up the job for me while I was stuck.

"I'm up for any suggestions you have," Shaun mumbled as Davos adjusted his posture. "I can even offer you a gift."

"A gift," Davos repeated, testing the sentence on his tongue. "That might be convincing enough."

"Good," Shaun nodded in a grin, his eyes shifting to the Elders on his side whom I didn't take note of because my head was bowed low and when it wasn't I got captured by the guest. "Name your price. Or should I offer you something?"

"You don't need to," his deep tone rumbled as I gradually took steps toward the door. "I already know who I want."

"Who and not what?" Amanda was the one to ask.

"Yes, who," he emphasized.
