Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Aurora James - POV

"Ma'am?" I looked up from the book I was reading to see a woman standing in front of me. "Mr. Alonso told me that he would not be able to meet you right now because he has a meeting." She informed me as I got up from my place.

I have been seated on this couch for two hours right now, and I am not planning to waste my time anymore. "It will only take five minutes," I told her as I walked passed her. I heard her following me, but I didn't stop till I came to a stop in front of a closed door.

A sarcastic smile formed on my face as I glared at the silver nameplate that was attached to the wooden oak door.

Elijah Alonso, CEO.

I twisted the doorknob and walked inside without knocking when I saw him seated on his chair with his whore on his lap. They were so engaged in sucking each other's faces that it took them a few minutes to register that someone was in the office.

Mr. Alonso glanced at his secretary, who had her head bowed down. "I tried to stop her, Mr. Alonso. But…"

"Leave us." That was all he said as she practically ran out of there.

"I heard you were planning to resign your job here and leave my pack." Mr. Alonso asked me with a raised eyebrow, and I nodded my head and placed the resignation letter on his table.

"I deserve a change in my life, Mr. Alonso. I am done trying to please everyone." I curtly replied as I looked at him with determination when he shook his head. Scarlet got up from his lap and adjusted her dress as he got up from his seat and straightened his suit.

A devilish smirk was plastered on Scarlet's face as she stepped aside so that Mr. Alonso could walk towards me. "I don't think you should take such rash decisions for something insignificant, Aurora." Mr. Alonso said as he came to a stop right in front of me. "This is not even a huge dilemma to leave the pack." He said, and I felt my heart painfully squeeze in agony while my wolf tried to claw her way to gain control.

I gave him a forced smile while I briefly looked at the woman who ruined it all before my eyes locked with his stormy grey eyes. "Insignificant?" I asked him as I let out a humorless laugh. "I was your mate, and you bluntly rejected me to be with some whore." I said when I saw the smile fade away from Scarlet's face. "I am not running away from you if that is what you think. I just feel disgusted seeing you with a whore." I said when I saw his hands curl into fists as he gritted his teeth.

"I am still your alpha and your mate, Aurora. Remember with whom you are speaking. I may have rejected it, but you haven't accepted my rejection yet. Which means I can always accept you back as my mate." Mr. Alonso threatened, but right now, I didn't care about his threats. I was done trying to please him. If he doesn't value my presence, then I am better off spending the rest of my life alone.

"I am not one of your whores, Alpha Alonso. I tried, I truly tried to save our relationship for the sake of our pack. Even when you have sex with Scarlet, I still forgave you, hoping that you would change." I said, my voice rising an octane. "I still remained silent when you introduced that whore as your future mate to our neighboring alpha. For the past month, all you have shown me was rejection and nothing else, and I am done with this bullshit. I am done waiting for you to change, Alpha Alonso." I said in an angry tone as I stared at him.

His eyes were now pitch black, letting me know that his wolf was in control right now. "Mind your words, Aurora. I…"

I felt my eyes burn with tears as I looked him in the eye. "All I want is a peaceful life, Alpha Alonso. So let's end this." I told him as I took a deep breath and looked at him. "I, Aurora James of the Shadow Light pack, reject you, Alpha Elijah Alonso, as my mate and Alpha," I said with finality as I felt something break within me.

A searing pain crossed my heart, but I held my head high up as I saw him place his hand over his heart as he glared at me. "Goodbye, Elijah. I hope you have a wonderful life ahead with your future Luna." I said in a sarcastic tone as I walked out of his office without a second glance.

As I walked into the elevator, tears started streaming down my cheeks as I bit my lips to stop my screams. My one chance at happiness was finding my mate, and now that was ruined as I stood in the elevator with a broken heart.

As I reached the ground floor, I walked out of the elevator and made my way outside. A soft wind blew passed me as I looked up at the sky. Huge grey clouds were forming as I felt the droplets fall on me. I would always feel a serene feeling wash over me as I stared at the bustling streets of New York, but right now, all I felt was pure agony.

"We are finally going to start over, Lily," I said.

"Yes, and we might come across our second chance mate as well," Lily said, but I didn't say anything. I am not ready for another drama in my life right now. I walked to the underground parking, got into my car, and sped out of the office building to the pack which is about ten minutes drive from here. The pain from the broken mate bond is still fresh, and I need a change to start my life again.

Our pack is located on the outskirts of New York, close to the forest, allowing us to roam free in our wolf whenever we want. As I got closer, I turned into a road and continued driving, I looked at the trees around me when I saw a two-storey house in the distance.

A house I have seen all my life, a place that brought me peace, but right now, seeing it only made a sense of dread creep within me. In all this frenzy with my mate, I forgot the one person who might suffer from my decision.
