Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Aurora James - POV

Ring, ring.

A groan left my mouth as my alarm kept ringing. My head was throbbing as if someone was playing the drum inside, and it hurt to open my eyes after the crying session that I had last night. "You better wake up, Aurora. We have our training session today." Lily said in a sing-song voice, which made me finally open my eyes.

My room was pitch dark, and I didn't even see a streak of daylight outside. This is pure torture!

Who on earth gets up at this ungodly hour? I grabbed my phone and turned off the alarm to see that it was four-thirty in the morning. Well, I better get going.

I got out of bed and made my way to the suitcase, took out a purple sports bra along with a pair of spandex shorts, and walked into the bathroom.

I don't know how many people take a shower before a workout, but if I don't, I don't think I can stay awake. I quickly put my clothes and a hoodie over my sports bra, put my hair in a high ponytail tail, and my running shoes, and walked out of my room.

The hallway was unusually quiet, which made a frown appear on my face. Aren't the warriors supposed to train? I made my way to the stairs and walked downstairs. As I reached the foyer, I heard loud chatter coming in from the hallway to my left.

I walked towards the hallway, and I came to a stop in front of a massive dining room. There was a long table in the center, which had about fifty chairs, and a whole breakfast buffet was laid on it. "Aurora!" I heard a familiar voice call out my name as I scanned the crowd when it finally landed on Adrian. "Come in," he said as he gestured to the empty seat next to him, and I nodded my head while I looked around.

The dining room was filled with warriors having their breakfast, faces I hadn't seen last night. And there wasn't a single female around, making me pull my hoodie closer to my body while I mentally scolded myself for not wearing sweatpants.

Taking a deep breath, I walked inside while I felt everyone staring at me. "Good morning," Adrian said as he pulled out the chair next to him while I gave him a forced smile.

"Good morning."

"What would you like to eat?" he asked me as he grabbed my plate, ready to serve.

"Some toast and a few slices of bacon would do," I told him, and he placed everything I needed and placed the plate in front of me.

I was so focused on eating my food that I nearly jumped out of my chair when I felt a warm hand on my shoulder. "I am sorry to startle you." I turned around when I saw a man seated next to me.

"That's all right," I said as I looked at the handsome stranger. He had brown hair and green eyes with a boyish smirk plastered on his face. And just like any other warrior in this room, he was well built as well, but not as muscular as Adrian or Beta Perez.

"So you are the new warrior everyone was talking about?" he asked me with a raised eyebrow as he took a sip from his juice.

"Um, no, I am actually not here to train as a warrior. I am here on my three-month probationary period before I could join the pack." I answered.

"Why are you staying in the beta's pack? Aren't you supposed to stay in the main pack?" He asked me.

"Alpha Lopez doesn't have any vacant houses right now, so I had to stay here for the timing," I told him, and he nodded his head.

"What's your name?" I asked him when a smile formed on his face.

"Levi," he answered, and I nodded my head. I ate my food in silence, and once I was done, I got up from my place, ready to leave.

"Going to meet Zander?" Adrian asked me, and I nodded my head.

"Best of luck."

"Aren't you coming for training?" I asked him. Well, in my old pack, the gamma is the one who usually conducts all these training sessions.

"Zander will be taking over the session today. So enjoy your day, sweetheart," he said as I walked out of the dining room without a word. Just great, I thought he would just assign Adrian to help me with this.

As I walked out of the pack house, I looked around and saw a group of warriors walk into the forest, so I followed right behind them. There was a small pathway cleared in the forest for us to walk, with electric lanterns hanging on the trees that were turned on, illuminating the path forward. As we walked in further, I looked around my surroundings, and a smile formed on my face.

Everywhere I turned, there were lush green trees, and I saw different colored birds perched on the branches singing their songs. Just looking at this scene made something serene wash over me, while the scent of wet earth and aromatic flowers was like a cherry on top. The trees gradually cleared when I finally entered a huge training ground.

To my left, there were boxing rings and mats and various training equipment, and to my right, there was a cleared path that looked like a running track that went into the forest and came back outside forming a complete circle. The entire clearing was lit by lights that were present at the edge.

My mouth was agape as I looked around, and I closed my eyes and took a deep breath as my lungs filled with the scent of oranges and cinnamon, making Lily purr in contentment. As I opened my eyes, I saw Beta Perez standing at a distance with his eyes locked with mine.

I didn't know if it was the mate bond or his unwavering stare, I felt my body heat up, and my heart to do a flip inside. Beta Perez began walking toward me, and I didn't even realize when I walked toward him as well.

As he came in closer, the euphoric feeling drained out of my body when I saw an indifferent look on his face.
