Aurora James - POV
"Hey, you all right?" Adrian asked me, and I gave him a forced smile as I quickly picked up the knife and placed it on the chopping board. I have heard about second-chance mates, but I have never heard of someone being blessed with two mates at the same time.
Is that why Beta Perez hated the sight of me? Because he already has a mate?
"But I never saw her. Is she staying in the main pack?" I asked him when a sour look crossed his face.
"No, she left Zander to go and mate with an Alpha. It's been three years since that incident. But ever since she left, Zander had completely changed. He hated the thought of a mate bond." Adrian answered, and even though it was heartbreaking to know what happened to Zander, somewhere deep within me, I was relieved to know that Zander was single.
The money I had saved up for a rainy day was gradually running out, and I knew that I would have to either find myself a new job or start my business, and I might have to speak to Alpha Lopez about that. I wiped my hands on the kitchen towel, and when I was about to leave, I heard Adrian call out. "Can I eat this sandwich?"
"Sure," I said.
I made my way to my car and got in as I drove out of there. Ten minutes later, I parked my car in the driveway and got out, and when I was about to walk to the pack house, I felt my phone vibrate. I took it out to see that it was an unknown caller.
Who could this be?
"Hello?"
"Hello, Darling. How are you enjoying your vacation?" I gritted my teeth when I realized that it was none other than Elijah.
"Everything ended between us, Alpha Alonso. So I don't think you have the right to ask me that." I said in a low tone as I looked around my surroundings to make sure no one was close by to hear my conversation.
"True, but I don't think I want to end this." he asserted.
"I think it is a little too late for that."
"It's not. And I will make sure you end up by my side soon."
"Why on earth can't you let me go?" I whisper-yelled. I gave him the time to rethink his decision, but he threw that out the window, and when I left that pack for good, he wanted me back again.
"Because you are a fucking witch!" he yelled, making me flinch. "Ever since you left, I felt my Alpha strength reduce and…" Before he could continue, I disconnected the call. His voice held so much anger, and he sounded a little crazy.
I immediately blocked his number, put my phone back in my handbag, and walked into the pack house. My heart was still racing with the conversation that I had with Alpha Alonso as I made my way upstairs. As I reached Alpha Lopez's office, I knocked on the door.
"Come in." I heard his voice, and before I could twist the handle and open the door, it opened inwards, and Beta Perez was standing in front of me, but his eyes were glued to his phone as he walked towards me.
Just as he walked out, our shoulders brushed, and I felt sparks between us as I felt Lily sigh in contentment. I was rooted to my spot while I could feel Beta Perez's presence behind me. "Miss. James?" Alpha Lopez's voice broke me out of whatever trance I was in, and as I turned around, I saw that he was already gone.
"I am sorry to disturb you, Alpha Lopez. But is it a good time to speak?" I asked him, and he nodded his head and gestured to the chair that was in front of him.
I closed the door behind me, walked inside, and took a set. "You would have to make an appointment to meet me, but I will make an exception today," he said with a smile.
"Thank you, Alpha Lopez. But this would not happen again."
"So, how are you enjoying your life in Zander's pack, Miss. James?"
"The training is tough, but I know I can handle it," I answered, and he nodded his head as he waited for me to continue. "I am here to ask a favor from you, Alpha Lopez."
"Sure, what can I help you with, Miss. James?"
"I would love to start my own event planning business, Alpha Lopez. And for that, I would like to rent a shop in your town." I told him as he leaned back in his chair.
"Where do you want the shop, Miss. James?"
"In the human town that you own, Alpha Lopez," I answered.
"I don't think I can help you with that, Miss. James," he said, and I felt my heart sink to the pit of my stomach. "Zander owns that town. If you want to rent anything there, you might have to ask him." Alpha Lopez said, and I felt a sense of dread wash over me.
"But Alpha Lopez, can't you speak to him and get me a shop?" I asked him, sounding desperate, when I saw a smirk appear on his face.
"I don't meddle with Zander's business, Miss. James. If you want something in that town, you might have to go and speak to him. Don't worry, he might have something for you there." Alpha Lopez said. "But I will give him a call and let him know about your request."
"Thank you, Alpha Lopez," I said in a dejected tone as I got up from my place. I have been trying to avoid Beta Perez for as long as I could, but looks I that isn't going to work out.
As I walked out of the pack house, I looked around and saw a signboard that had an arrow pointed to the forest with river written on it, so that is where I went.
