Chereads / Beta Zander Perez / Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

Aurora James - POV

"Which shop did Beta Perez allocate for you?" Levi asked me as we drove out of the pack.

"The one that is a few miles away from the restaurant in town," I answered, and Levi nodded his head. Fifteen minutes later, Levi parked my car in front of a concrete building that had a glass wall in the front, which was covered with newspaper.

The building was painted in grey, and there was a wooden signboard on top of the door that was barely holding its shape. Levi got down of the car, made my way to my side, and helped me out. He had his arm securely wrapped around my waist as he guided me to the entrance.

"Do you have the key?" He asked me, and I nodded my head and gave him the key as he opened the door and we walked inside. It was pitch dark inside, and Levi made me stand near the entrance. "Wait here," Levi said as I held onto the wall for support while he walked inside to look for the light switch.

A few minutes later, the entire place was illuminated with an orange glow while my mouth was agape. This place was a mess. There was a wooden desk in the center with papers, clothes, and paint tins on it, and the floor was also littered with women's clothes, accessories, a broken coffee mug, and more papers.

I looked around when I saw that the walls were done in an ugly blue color, with its paint peeling off while the entire place had accumulated a good amount of dust, making me cough.

"Why isn't this place cleaned?" I asked Levi as he walked towards me, helped me inside, and made me take a seat on a chair.

"The person who rented this place before you vacated this place last month, but Beta Perez didn't have the time to clean this out yet," Levi explained as I nodded my head and looked around. This place needs a revamp, and it is going to cost me a lot.

Levi walked over to the glass wall that was in the back and tore off all the newspapers that were attached to the glass when daylight began streaming inside. The back view was beautiful as it overlooked the dark forest. There was a wooden door to go back, which Levi opened as I saw the dust particles float outside.

The air conditioner that was there had turned a pale yellow color, and I looked around when I saw the remote on the desk. I grabbed that and tried to turn it on, but it didn't work.

Great, I need to buy a new one now.

"What is in that cardboard box?" I asked Levi when I saw a box that was in one corner of the shop. Levi walked back inside and made his way over to the box and brought it towards me and placed it on the desk.

"Nothing much." He said as he took out papers that had weird drawings on them along with bills and receipts.

"What on earth was this person running in here?"

"I have the same doubt as well."

"Haven't you visited this place when this shop was open?" I asked Levi when a thoughtful look crossed his face.

"I think I came here once with one of my friends. The person who rented this place was a man in his late forties. Despite opening a shop in here, he barely opened it for business."

"So he never sold anything?"

"As far as I am aware, no. But when I visited his shop the first time, he had some accessories that were made out of rocks and semi-precious stones. But he did promise that he would bring in more collections, but that never happened."

"Why did he leave?" I asked him.

"I don't know about that. All he said was that he wanted to start afresh. When he only stayed in our pack for three months." Levi explained.

That was weird. Who would just up and leave this place?

"Anyway, enough with that. Shall we start cleaning?" I asked Levi.

"You never told me I am supposed to clean this place." He said in a duh tone.

"I was supposed to do that alone today, but since I broke my leg, you are going to help me with that." I asserted. I expected him to protest or argue, but Levi was such a sweet person as he began helping me clean all the garbage.

"Hey, can I ask you something?" Levi asked me after an hour while I was busy sorting the papers that were inside the cardboard box.

"Sure."

"What is going on between you and Beta Perez?" I stopped what I was doing as I looked up at him. My heart was beating so hard I was afraid that he might hear it, and a cold sweat broke out on my forehead.

"N…nothing." I stammered, but a doubtful look crossed his face. While a feeling of dread overtook my senses. I am still confused about my relationship with Beta Perez, and I don't want anyone to find out about that because that would only lead to more problems.

I heard something drop to the floor when I looked up to see that Levi had dropped the broomstick he was using as he shook his head. "It can't be nothing, Aurora."

"I am working as his secretary. We have a professional relationship and nothing else." I said, but Levi shook his head.

"Beta Perez seemed different today. He has never spared anyone who talks back to him or defies his orders, Aurora. And you have already done that twice, but he still chose to let it slide." He was pointing out the obvious, and my fear gradually increased.

"I don't know, okay. So please drop this subject, Levi." I almost yelled at him. I couldn't hold my anger in anymore as I looked up to see his eyes had completely changed their color. I shouldn't have talked back to a high-ranking wolf.

This only means one thing.

I am screwed.
