Beta Zander Perez - POV
I didn't know what to say right now. Ares was howling in agony while I felt numb. "What do you mean?"
"Her blood tests just came back, and there is a large amount of wolfbane mixed in her blood. It must be from the rogue's nail or teeth, I am not so sure." She said.
"Then flush it out. Haven't you done that before?" I questioned as my voice raised an octave. My heart was palpitating while a sense of dread engulfed me. I didn't know why I was feeling this way towards her, but the thought of her dead didn't sit well with me.
"I would have started that procedure, but it's too late right now, Beta Perez."
"Then don't you have any other way?" I asked her.
"Her mate's blood can help heal her." She answered, but I remained quiet as a chill ran down my spine. If my blood mixes with hers, it would complete half of the mate bond process, and it would only make the mate bond grow stronger.
If the mate bond gets stronger, it will be even harder for me to resist marking her, and I don't want that to happen right now when I am still confused about my feelings towards her. "So can I proceed with that, Beta Perez?" Doctor Jenkins' question made me break from my trance as I gave her a questioning look.
"What?"
"Miss. James has told me that she has already found her mate." She said with glee while I was confused and angry. I almost believed that Aurora was not like her. But seems like she is not different from her after all. She is only after power and wealth, and a woman like her would only destroy what I have built so far. "So can I contact him and let him know about his mate's condition, Beta Perez?" Doctor Jenkins's words broke me out of my trance.
Whom is she trying to contact, when I am standing right in front of her?
"Who he is?" I asked her.
"It's Alpha Elijah Alonso." That name made my blood boil, and all I saw was red. Why on earth would she utter his name and claim that he was her mate while I was standing right outside? "Beta Perez?"
I glared at Doctor Jenkins and stormed out of there. I walked out of the pack house and shifted into my brown wolf midair as I ran into the forest. I was trying to console myself that the anger that was coursing within me was Ares's emotions, but I don't think I can deny it anymore.
I may have been a little mad if Aurora told the doctor about our relationship, but I would have still saved her life, claiming that bastard was her mate didn't sit well with me. He is a goddamn playboy, and I don't think he even deserves her.
I ran through the thick forest for hours till I burnt out all my anger, and Ares calmed down before I ran back to the pack house. I changed into my human self, and quickly put on a pair of boxers that were inside the box of clothes that we keep outside for emergencies as I walked into the hallway that has the hospital.
I rarely visit the main pack, so as I walked through the doors into the hospital, I saw pack members gasp in surprise as they saw me. The hospital was quite crowded today, with pregnant women seated on the waiting chairs for their checkups. This sight made my heart tighten in agony. I don't think I can ever be seated like that with my mate by my side.
I took a right turn and walked down the quiet corridor when I came to a stop in front of Aurora's room. I was about to walk inside when the door opened, and Alpha Lopez, Adrian, and Levi walked out.
"Where have you been?" Alpha Lopez questioned.
"Patrolling." I curtly replied.
"How is she?"
"Her condition has only got worse, and Doctor Jenkins informed me as soon as you stormed out of here without a reason." Alpha Lopez said, but I didn't say anything as he continued. "She informed me that Aurora has a mate."
"I don't think Alpha Alonso is her mate, Adam."
"I had the same doubt as well, Zander. So I sent out some warriors to check the facts, and turns out, it is true. Apparently, Alpha Alonso and Aurora had a little argument." I felt my hands curl into fists.
"So you called him?" I asked him while gritting my teeth, and Adam nodded his head.
"Aurora's life is in danger. I did what I had to do." Adam answered, and I didn't say anything.
"Did Aurora really tell his name?" I asked him.
"Doctor Jenkins said that she kept mumbling his name, so she figured out that he was her mate. And he confirmed it as well." Adrian said, which made me raise an eyebrow at them.
"I called Alpha Alonso and told him about her condition. He seemed worried, and told me that he would be here as soon as he could." Adam told me.
"When did you inform him?"
"About two hours ago." He said, and just then, his phone rang, and Adam picked it up. "Hello." He spoke for a few minutes before he kept it and turned around to face Adrian. "Alpha Alonso will be here in ten minutes. Adrian, Let's go and bring him here.." He said, and Adrian nodded his head as they walked away.
"Levi, go and patrol the eastern border."
"But I just came back from patrolling as well, Beta Perez." He said, and this made me glare at him, which made him shut his mouth as he walked away. I walked into Aurora's room and gently closed the door as I turned around to face her.
Various tubes were poked into her body while a heart monitor was monitoring her heartbeat. I walk closer to the screen to see that the beats per minute are steadily decreasing. I took a seat on the chair as I took hold of her hand, which was almost cold to touch.
The pink hue that I saw on her cheeks were long gone as a pale complexion adorned her skin. My heart tightened in pain as I saw her in this condition. When I saw her lips move. I moved closer to her and placed my ear near the oxygen mask.
"Alpha Alonso." She was chanting his name, and this made my blood boil in anger. Doctor Jenkins wasn't lying. I was about to move away when I heard her say something else that made my heart beat faster.
