Chapter 17 - Butler Lawrance

"Welcome, madam. As you say, I didn't tell anyone where the warehouse was or what was in it. I drove the vehicles that entered Powys to the warehouse. As you say, I paid the people who drove the vehicles a million pounds each." A very old man was talking to Petunia. This man had served the Black family for a long time. His name was Lawrence and he had a very simple personality.

His personality was so simple that it would be possible to say that his unique characteristic was that he could draw pictures.

After 55 years as a servant to the Black family, he was still serving. However, his heart was incredibly broken and he was incredibly angry with Petunia and Light.

Lawrence turned 60 this year, and he has been able to fulfil his father's legacy for 55 years since he was 5 years old.

But the children of those he had served were trying to sell everything and disappear. It was a miracle his heart could take it.

After all, Lawrence wished to serve his children as he had served his masters, and there was nothing else he knew how to do.

"Don't be so sad Lawrance, please take care of yourself, it's wonderful that you've served us so far, you're the best legacy we have left of our family, after all, you were always there for me when I had trouble taking care of my little brother or when I messed up. You were there for us." When Petunia saw Lawrence's expression, she could see that it was filled with sadness and sorrow But the main event was taking place in Light's mind.

Light clearly remembered the time before he travelled back in time.

Before he had lost contact with his sister, he had learnt that Lawrence had used his own body as a shield to save his sister, and even though one of the zombies had torn off his arm, he had stood still until Petunia had escaped. It was like a shield of flesh.

That's why Light was filled with incredible remorse. Because he was well aware of it himself. Everything Petunia said was true,

Lawrence had stood by Light like a father since he was a little boy. Light had learnt ethics and how to behave from him. He was someone he respected.

The only problem was that Light's trust in people was officially almost non-existent...he wondered if Lawrence would change too.

"Lawrence, do you want to see something beautiful?" Light suddenly asked, and Lawrence replied with an awkward expression, "Of course, sir."

With that, the first warehouse was accessed and Petunia logically asked, "Where's your man, Light?" Hearing these words, Light stretched his hands towards the huge pile of money in front of him and then said 'Sub-Space' in his mind.

All the money suddenly started to be drawn towards his hand. Petunia fell to the ground in surprise, while Lawrence stared at the scene with wide eyes, as if he had never thought he would ever see anything like this.

The piles of money were being sucked spiralling into the image of space in the palm of Light's hand and disappearing, while the two behind him were too busy being dumbfounded to notice.

"What the hell is this?" Lawrence asked as Light stopped sending the coins into his Sub-Space and then turned around to speak to the pair:

"Do you realise how shitty the world has become? One day I woke up and I had this power, that's why I don't have a man, sister."

When Light uttered these words, Petunia slowly stood up and grabbed Light by the cheeks and pulled him to herself, after only a few seconds, she asked, "You weren't hurt, were you? You didn't become a mutant, did you?"

As soon as Light heard what his sister said, he realised that there was no way that she would change, it would be good for everyone if he fully understood that she supported him no matter what.

"Don't worry, if I were a mutant I'd look like a monster, not a human. And Lawrence, now do you understand why we want to get away from everything? I only told my sister what was going on about a week ago. The world is heading for the apocalypse, there's no way to stop the virus, soon the mutated humans will lose their minds and chaos will rule England and the world. I left everything because I wanted to protect my sister and myself."

Light's words were like a gateway to the end of everything for Lawrence. Taking off his hat, Lawrence held it tightly in his hands and then said, "Thank you for telling me all this, sir. I've never been married and I've never had children, and I've been filled with incredible anger and sadness because the Black family, my only family, abandoned me. At least now I know the truth, so please take care of yourself."

Petunia tilted her head at his words, Lawrence was like a big brother to Petunia and that was what made everything sad in her eyes.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Light suddenly asked, a strange look on his face.

"I beg your pardon, sir?" replied Lawrence, looking confused.

"The house we live in now is too big for us to live in, why do you think I showed you my power? Even if it was a normal person or someone I'm incredibly close to, I wouldn't have shown you that power unless it was my sister, I only showed it to you and my sister because you're closer than incredible. In case you forgot, you are my other family."

Every single word that Light said were words that Lawrence had never imagined he would hear in his entire life, and he could hardly keep himself from crying, which made things incredibly awkward.

It was only when the atmosphere had officially become unbelievably awkward that Light spoke again:

"You're a fool if you think I'm going to let you go that easily, let's go back, you're driving."

These were words that Lawrence would hold dear to his heart until the day he died, he would need at least a hundred pages of blank notebooks just to express his happiness.

"Yes, sir," Lawrence said with tears in his eyes, there was still a lot of money to raise.
