Chapter 22 - System Shop

"What the hell is this?"

Light was confused when he looked at the glowing skill, it was quite confusing that nothing like this had ever happened before. However, he noticed that the system window had changed considerably:

When Light looked at the system window, he saw that the experience he had gained had increased and he also noticed that the System Shop was glowing. On top of that, the 'locked' sign on the skill seemed to have disappeared.

Light carefully pressed on the skill and four more system windows opened in front of him:

[System Shop has been unlocked.

+100 System Points in honour of killing a Level 1 zombie for the first time.]

[System Shop will be replenished every 24 hours. It is only necessary to wait one day for the finished stock.]

Light was in for an incredible shock when he read the entire system windows. It wasn't because the System Shop was unlocked or anything like that, but rather it was the point-earning section that shocked him.

The fact that a mutant zombie was written next to the zombies was a revolution for him.

After all, even he had seen on the news how dozens of mutants had slaughtered people and even destroyed apartment blocks.

The fact that each of the tens of species was just mutant zombies showed that they all came from a single virus. But how did they turn into mutants?

Shaking his head rapidly, Light closed and reopened the system window to see if he was imagining things and finally accepted the truth.

This seemed to explain why these mutated zombies were stronger and more intelligent than other zombies.

Even he had seen dozens of people mutate, so what did that mean? Maybe people who had been bitten were mutating?

Nevertheless, even if there was never a scenario where mutant zombies were as intelligent as humans, it was an immutable fact that they were very dangerous. I guess that's why there were their levels in the system window.

"Pufff...this changes everything." Light wasn't wrong when he said that. It really would change everything. After all, there had to be a way to stop the zombies before they mutated or to recognise those who would mutate.

Finding that way was the confusing part, there might be a way, but Light had never used that skill on a zombie before.

"Inspection?" he suddenly thought. This skill highlighted almost every characteristic of the thing or person he wanted to examine, which meant that maybe it was possible to determine whether the zombies would mutate or not.

Whatever it was, Light was too exhausted to worry about it at the moment, although he already had an idea of what he was going to do until the day he went out. He would rest, work, eat, sleep, and repeat until he was strong enough to survive.

The future would come even faster than he had hoped.

-----

-----

"It's only been two weeks since the snow stopped, and here's still a huge amount of snow, how are you planning to go out anyway? You will snow inside the house." When Petunia uttered these words, three months in the house were already over, and on top of that it had been almost two weeks and two days.

When the date was March 3rd 2025, Light was sure of everything to go out.

Luckily, Powys didn't have the amount of snow he remembered from his previous life, so he realised that there were almost 8 metres of snow around and over his house, which was not everywhere.

This meant that it was possible to get out through the door in the ceiling of his room.

Light had built this door for this very purpose, just in case, if he could catch the event he was expecting, that is, if he could get the timing right, he might be able to get to Oxford without getting caught in too much snow.

Oxford was a huge place, and it was where Light had been surrounded in his previous life when he had been left for dead.

However, perhaps he would be able to find his friends alive, and if they were alive, Light would examine them with the Inspection skill and try to realise whether they were evil or not.

The realisation that the Inspection skill could also reveal such things had come when Light had used it to check on his sister.

Both his sister's and Lawrence's names had (Super Good Intentions) written next to them, and that alone told Light a lot about them.

He couldn't help but hope that his friends were like that, no matter what.

"If I don't leave right now and the zombies spread out too much, everything will be more troublesome for me, sis, trust me, I will always be safe, I already left you a phone and somehow the internet is still working, even if the power is out. So I can reach you from the internet on my mobile line and you can reach me from here."

Light's words must have reassured both his sister and Lawrence because, after a tight hug, the two of them agreed to let Light go.

No longer was it a race against time, but a search for his friends who he hoped had survived the race.

Even he couldn't have predicted what might happen.
