"Divorce! I want a divorce immediately. I can't stand a scheming woman like you as my wife for a second longer," Vernon glared at Helena as he said with his gritted teeth.
"Hah? Divorce? In your dreams. Once you are married to me, don't even think about divorcing me. Until one of us is dead, we are stuck together," Helena sneered as she did not agree.
"You! How can you do this? You clearly don't love me. All you want from me is my money, right? Fine. Then tell me. How much money do you want? As long as I pay you enough, I can get rid of you, right?" Vernon wanted to get rid of her somehow. He did not care about giving some money to her as long as he could gain his freedom back.
Helena froze. She looked at Vernon seriously for a second. She pondered for a while before nodding, "Fine. If that's what you really want."
Vernon looked like he had expected as much. He knew that all she cared for was his money. Now that she would take his money and leave him, he could finally live his life freely. That's all he could ask for in his life right now.
"How much do you want? State your price so we can finish this immediately," Vernon doesn't want to drag this out any longer. If possible, he wanted to divorce her the same day, so that he could be the free man from the very next day.
Helena smiled and stated calmly, "Ninety percent."
Vernon blinked his eyes, "Huh?"
Helena shrugged.
"What do you mean by that? Ninety percent of what?" Vernon was really confused.
Helena looked at him like he was an idiot but she still had to talk clearly to him to get what she wanted, "Ninety percent of your entire assets. Your shares, property, and everything."
"What? Are you crazy? If I give you ninety percent of my everything, how do you expect me to live?" The Vernon looked like he was going crazy.
"Why should I care about what would happen to you? If you want to get rid of me so badly, then give me the ninety percent as I asked or just stay with me for your life. It is your choice. Call me once you made a decision. Bye bye," Helena did not about his reaction and calmly turned to leave his room with a smile.
"Stop right there. How can you leave without finishing our conversation?" Vernon did not let Helena leave just like that. He had to divorce her today. He was determined.
Helena stopped and turned back to face him. She did not stop her smile as she asked him, "What more do you want to say? Don't tell me, do you think I asked for too little and you felt bad for me? Do you want to give me all your money? I am not against that either. I just thought that since we have been married for ten years, I should let you have something to let you live."
Vernon glared at her. Even though she was saying those words, it was very clear that she didn't want to divorce him at all. She was determined to stay with him till the end and torture him to enjoy his money.
He was frustrated.
He sighed and calmed himself down. He looked at her and said softly, "Sit down."
Helena sat down as asked. If he was civil to her, she was civil to him as well.
Vernon looked that she did not give any snarky comments and sighed in relief before taking a seat himself, facing her.
He wanted to have a good conversation with her, "Helena, we have been friends since our childhood. We have known each other for so many years. You were never like this before. Why have you become like this?"
Helena smiled, but her smile did not reach her eyes, and she asked back, "What have I become?"
"Don't you realize what you have become? So scheming. You have been such a good girl since you were young. Always obedient and never talking back to the elders. But now? You had slapped my sister-in-law, talked back to my brother, and even bullied my nephew. When have you become like this? No, how have you become like this?" Vernon tried his best to speak calmly with her to understand what she was thinking when she did all those things.
Helena narrowed her eyes. Her lips were still smiling. But Vernon couldn't understand the emotions within her eyes.
Helena shook her head. She wouldn't say anything.
"Helena," Vernon called out to her. He wanted her to talk. It doesn't matter if she scolded him. He would still try to understand. But with her being like that, he couldn't understand her at all.
Helena closed her eyes for a second and then she slowly opened them to look at Vernon, "I have nothing to say. I don't like your brother, sister-in-law, or their son. So, what if I fought against them? I did whatever I wanted to do. What can you do to me?"
Vernon's face changed, "Helena!!" He roared.
If it was the Helena of the past, she would have trembled under his roar and scary gaze.
But now, she is calm. So calm that Vernon couldn't understand her at all.
Helena calmly scratched her ears, "Why are you shouting? I am right here and my ears are working just fine as well. If you have something to say, say it calmly. I am not running anywhere, remember?"
In the last sentence, she even smiled at him. Vernon wanted to strangle her. He understood what she meant. She meant that since she wasn't divorcing him anyway, he could talk to her all his life.
So, she doesn't want to divorce him? He thought to himself.
Since shouting at her had no effect on her, he calmed down and lowered his voice to speak, "How can you be so cruel? You know how much I love my brother. How can you do this to my brother's family? As my wife, shouldn't you care about my family just like I do? After all, my family is your family as well."
Helena smiled. Her words sounded sarcastic as she sneered, "My family? Who is my family?"
Vernon frowned.
