Chapter 7 - Postpone the wedding? No!

"I am pregnant with your child," The woman stated and fell to the ground, crying desperately.

"What?" Vernon asked in shock.

But from the corner of his eyes, he looked at Helena. In the depths of his eyes was the glint of success and happiness.

With this, there is no way she would be able to continue marrying him, right?

Helena looked at the woman on the ground and then at Vernon.

She asked him calmly, "Vernon, what is going on? Is what she is saying the truth?"

Vernon shook his head, "No, of course not. I don't know her at all."

"Vernon, how can you say that? You don't know me? I have given you my first time. You can't leave me like this, right?" The woman raised her head and asked him.

"What?" Vernon wanted to ask more but he seemed to have no words at all.

He was too shocked to speak.

After a few seconds of silence, his eyes widened in surprise as if realization hit him, "You.. you are that woman that day?"

No one understood what he meant but the woman nodded.

He looked at Helena with guilt evident on his face.

Helena took a deep breath, "What happened?"

"A month ago, I was drugged. When I woke up there was no one in the room. I dreamt that there was a woman that night but I didn't know it wasn't a dream at all," Vernon explained.

Helena understood and nodded, "So, what do you want to do now?"

Vernon blinked his eyes. 'Huh? What do I want to do? Shouldn't you be the one saying you don't want to marry me anymore? Why are you asking me?'

[Say that you need some time and postpone the wedding.] He heard Helena's thoughts again.

He frowned. But looks like that is the only thing he could do now as well.

He slowly turned towards his brother and asked, "Can we postpone the wedding for now? I can't marry Helena in the situation I am in right now, right?"

The discussions in the crowd became louder.

Vincent frowned. He did not answer. He looked deeply at his younger brother.

Vernon couldn't help but fidget under his brother's scrutinizing gaze. It was his subconscious reaction.

"Helena," Helena's father called to his daughter.

Helena frowned as she had a bad feeling about this. She still had no choice but to walk towards him. Her father whispered a few words in her ears and she looked at him in shock.

He did nothing but to nod and gestured for her to go back to her position.

Vernon looked at Helena and frowned. What had happened? She looked even more dispirited than before.

She had a brave front but her thoughts were filled with her sobs, [Sob sob. Mom. Mom. I want you by my side. I want you here with me. What is happening here? What should I do?]

Despite looking at her calm and brave face, Vernon could hear her heart-wrenching thoughts and felt his heart clench.

He looked at her and probed, "What happened? What did your father say?"

She looked at him calmly before calmly shaking her head with a smile. "Nothing. He let me decide for myself about what to do."

Vernon had a feeling she was lying but he did not probe further and calmly nodded and asked, "So, what do you want to decide? I will do anything you say."

Helena looked at him and asked seriously, "Do you have feelings for her?"

Vernon shook his head firmly.

Helena nodded.

Then she turned to look at Vernon's father, "Uncle, do you want your son marrying the mother of your grandchild?"

Vernon's father frowned but he firmly shook his head, "Helena, you are the only daughter-in-law I will ever accept into my family."

Helena smiled and nodded at him, "Thank you, Uncle."

She then looked at the woman on the floor and asked, "Do you love Vernon?"

"Huh? Love?" The woman was stunned. She blinked her eyes and turned to look at Vernon in doubt. He frowned and shook his head.

The woman was smart. She thought for a couple of seconds, "I don't know about love. But I don't want my child to have no father."

Helena nodded. "Then please wait in the waiting room for a while. We will go through the wedding before coming to you and then we will deal with what to do in the future."

"Huh?" The woman was stunned. She did not expect this at all. She had to stop this wedding at all costs. That was her job for the day.

Acting pregnant of the groom was the foolproof plan she could ever think of. But why didn't it work here? What is going on?

Helena raised an eyebrow arrogantly and asked, "What happened? Don't you want a father for your child? You don't love Vernon anyway. No one here will accept you as his wife either. So, why are you still standing there? Don't tell me you want to be the daughter-in-law of the Jeffery family using the child in your stomach?"

"Huh? No. I didn't mean that but I…" She wanted to say more but before she could continue, Helena raised her hand to stop her.

"No one here is interested in listening to your stories. Look around yourself. Everyone is a better businessman here than the other. They kept their precious time aside to attend the wedding of Jeffery and Ford families. Who do you think you are to take their time to yourself?" Helena asked her in a cold voice.

The woman trembled under her cold gaze. She had seen wealthy people before. But she was never subjected to such a cold gaze before in her life.

She froze in her spot.

She turned her head slowly to look at her surroundings to find all the guests looking at her in ridicule.

She immediately understood.

Helena is in total control of the hall and she, on the other hand, has completely lost.
