Riley oblivious to everyone's surprise continued to move forward. He had left everyone behind but he could still feel frantic footsteps coming behind him. The opposition players were trying to catch up. The under 19's starting keeper in goal had a determined look on his face. He was determined to stop Riley.
Riley had the same determination as him. Only one will come out on top. Riley sped forward full speed. He eventually got close to the box and the keeper was anticipating for him to step into the box to increase his chances. However contrary to his guess, Riley let fly just outside the box. Hitting the ball hard but also elegantly to put a little curl to it. The keeper expected Riley to get inside the box and try different things maybe even dinking it over him. He didn't expect this.
It's safe to say everyone else too expected Riley to get in the box. The ball evaded the keepers hands as it flew toward the top corner rustling the net. A pin drop silence. No one said anything until Riley without even looking at the keeper jogged back to the centre circle passing by the stunned players.
"Well, damn." Mike exclaimed, 'Did I just stumble upon a gem? I think I did. Hahahaha.' Mike was happy to have seen such a young player playing without any fear of the older players especially at such an age he was at. The match restarted and the intensity went up a notch as the starters showed why they were the starters. They were annoyed at themselves that they let a 14 year old kid who is trying out for the team get one up on them.
Riley who has earned a little respect from his teammates started seeing more of the ball and the reserves started showing their teeth. Riley provided a beautiful assist for the under 19's reserve striker who beat the offside trap and calmly slotted the ball beyond the goalkeeper. Earning him a nod from Mike, he was thrilled and he looked at Riley with grateful eyes.
The scrimmage ended with the reserves losing the game 3-2 with Riley involved in both of their goals. Riley was called over as the other players were doing their warm downs. He quickly went over and saw a couple more middle age men he didn't see before. He politely greeted them and turned to the guy overseeing his trial.
"Well, Riley you just impressed the hell out of me. Hahahaha. Old Nux your eyes are still as sharp as ever." The middle aged man said. "I think you are good. You should get signed up and join the under 17's." Riley was delighted and he was about to leave with grandpa Nux until Mike the under 19 head coach interrupted them, "Riley, my name is Mike and Im the head coach of the under 19's." Riley acknowledged him and looked deep in the man's eye because it looked like he still wanted to say something else and sure enough Mike continued, "You dismantled my team over there and you think Im just going to let you walk… how about it kid? How about you join the under 19? Think you ready?"
Everyone was stunned by Mike's words except one person and that was Riley. He is very confident about his football skills and knowledge so he knows when he has impressed. Nux threw a glance at Riley waiting for his answer. Riley didn't need long to think and he instantly agreed. "Good come back tomorrow, same time as today for your training." After that little interaction everyone dispersed.
The player who was on crutches watching this could guess what that little interaction was about. "Haa, seems like the world will witness another WUNDERKIND, hahahaha." He laughed.
"Marco! Come over it's time."
