During this halftime interval both set of fans had decided to get refreshments. They anticipated a big second half due to the match still being close. A few figures could be seen seated in what looked like a VIP section.
"Marco, why did you want to watch this youth match? We shouldn't have even travelled with the squad, you are still injured." A middle aged man questioned. "There is this kid Im very interested in." Marco calmly said as his eyes rested on the substitutes doing their warmups. The middle aged man also shifted his eyes to the pitch. He quickly picked up a figure with curly has juggling the ball and immediately thought that the kid Marco is talking about is definitely him.
The higher ups have not stopped talking about this kid they signed not so long ago. Almost everyone in management at Dortmund knew of the immense potential Riley carries. 'Well boy wonder, what have you got in store for us today.' Marco on the side thought.
The players returned to the pitch and everyone in the stands had settled down for the beginning of the second half. Riley was seen continuing his warmup with the other teammates. The match restarted and Dortmund started going on the front foot attacking relentlessly. However their efforts didn't bare no fruits. Coach Mike was getting frustrated his team had not scored another goal. He looked to the side and his eyes landed on the players warming up. "Call over Riley." He said to one of the members of his staff.
Riley quickly went over and removed his bib and jacket to put on his kit. As he was getting ready, Dortmund centre back Nnamdi Collins released the ball towards August over the top. August with the pace he has beat the centre backs and he calmly finished, tucking the ball in the corner away from the keeper's reach.
"Goal again. Dortmund have put a little daylight between them and the opponents. August O'Brian the young American forward with the goal. Ohh, what is this? It seems Dortmund are preparing to make a substitution right on the 60 minute mark. The young Portoguese midfielder Riley Santos is waiting on the sidelines to be introduced. He will get 30 minutes to show us what he can do." The commentator's voice rang.
Riley was coming on for Vasco Walz, with a formation change of 4-2-3-1. This formation to accommodate Riley's attacking midfield play style. The match restarted, the Copenhagen players uping the tempo a little bit and targeting Riley since they felt he will be the weak link to this Dortmund team but they realised they were wrong when Riley got on the ball and started dictating play.
75th minute of the game, Riley had just received a pass from Ayukayoh. Riley with great vision hit the ball first time, with a raking pass to Samuel. He took the ball in his stride leaving the defenders who had tried to catch him offside but Riley's pass had disrupted the defence's chemistry. August was running besides Samuel in case he couldn't finish and gave him the ball for a tap in but Samuel also needed this goal. The keeper came to close him down but Samuel chipped it over him and the ball settled in the net.
"Goaaaal, what a cheeky play from a cheeky play. Samuel just dinked the ball over the keeper, my gosh. He was set up to score by Riley with a wonderful pass that split the defenders, leaving Samuel with an easy task." The commentator was very impressed by Dortmunds performance and so were the travelling fans. Jaco in the stands clenched his fists and punched the air.
The celebrations ended and the match restarted again. Copenhagen started being more defensive. Yes they are losing but in their minds, 0-3 was okay. They didn't want to concede more and suffer a humiliating defeat. This was a bad move though because that allowed Dortmund to have more of the ball and with creative players like Riley on the field. This truly was a bad move.
