Chapter 30 - Betrayal

Hours passed and still, nobody ever came to interrogate or feed the prisoner. It was as if they had forgotten about him. Countless more hours passed, perhaps two days, and still, not a single footstep could be hard, no voices, no food, nothing.

At this point Hagan was desperate to escape, he began inspecting his cuffs and notices numerous hieroglyphs inscribed in their surface. During Hagans research class, he'd learned a small amount of information regarding writing, but regardless, Hagan focused what was left of his mind on these scribbles.

Hagan was severely injured and starving, it'd been so long since he last ate. Although he was having trouble simply moving his arms and legs to study the hieroglyphs, he was determined to study every detail in hopes to find a way out.

Suddenly, there were many loud sound coming from outside, Hagan was startled by the commotion. But then he had a thought, maybe this was his chance to escape this hell. So, he started to strike the steel cuffs against each other, making as much noise as he could.

He brought his legs close, raised his weak and trembling arms, then dropped them. The sound reverberated throughout the dark enclosure, but it was loud, which was good. Hagan raised his arms again, and then dropped them again. Over and over he repeated this and then, the commotion outside was quelled.

He struck again. Again

He was raising his arms again when he suddenly heard a click, sunlight flooded the room. This caused Hagan to swiftly cover his eyes and slightly groan. When he opened them, he saw two men standing in the doorway. He trembled in fear, hoping they weren't the hateful residents of the village who would merely pummel him again.

When his eyes focused, adapting to the light, he stared in reverence towards the men. They were no the villagers, in fact, they seemed to come from no were village. They were clad in intricately engraved silver armor, ornate gauntlets rested on details sword pommels, their faces were hidden behind helmets with four slits running vertically, allowing them to see, and around their waist was something Hagan was yearning so dearly for. Water canisters.

Hagan thought he was hallucinating when he saw the knights. He'd never expected anyone to appear in the village, let alone hear him and help him, possibly, escape from his unjust confinement. The timing of these knights in shining armor was too impeccable to feel real, but alas, Hagan believed he was being saved.

"Help… me. Please."

Hagan's voice was weak and hoarse. His saviroirs glanced at each other then… left.

'No. Where are they going? Help me, please! Help!'

Hagan felt deeply wronged and betrayed, after all, how could they leave someone to die in such a place. This completely crushed Hagans hopes of being saved. Hagan desperately tried to get their attention even though merely keeping his eyes open was a challenge. Before he could muster another word, he'd passed out once again.

Hagan felt his life was over. There was nothing more he could do, he'd used all his strength to make noise so he was found and to ask for help.
