'Oh how nice it would be to live in a higher Unit. Wouldn't have to worry about food, water, clothing; nothing at all.'
Hagan sighed and played down on the old worn down mattress he had and went to sleep.
The city was separated into different Units, Unit A, B, C, D, and E. The center of the city was Unit A, the wealthiest and cleanest area. These people had almost no daily worries, if there was any sort of incident, it either was very quickly dealt with or suppressed. If someone were to fall ill, the people with the best healing abilities quickly cured them or prescribed them medication. There's also real trees and grass in there so not only is it beautiful, the air is pure and clean.
The people in Unit A essentially are spoon def everything they need.
Unit B doesn't have any real trees, but does have grass. There's a few parks scattered in the area that have especially beautiful scenery. The people are rich and receive remarkable healthcare, the houses are clean, the streets are well maintained, and the air is sweet.
Unit C is similar to Unit B in the sense that it's clean, maintained, and beautiful. Although there's no real vegetation as the air is a little more hoarse in the area, it's still quite pleasant and clean.
The middle ground between the slums and the Units is Unit D. A large number of people who live there still need to work dangerous jobs such as maintaining the air purifiers, building city infrastructure, and gathering resources from beyond city limits.
Working with air purifiers is dangerous because you often need to work hands on, meaning that you will be investing extremely polluted and toxic air, many die from disease caused by the air every year. Building for the city is dangerous because although there are many safety nets and harnesses to save you, many contractors are lazy and don't buy new and well working equipment, so many die from faulty equipment.
The main differences between Unit D and the slums are cleaner street, clean food and water, more breathable air, and the fact nearly everyone has a house or apartment.
Unit E has nearly no differences between the slums and itself. The air is murky, the streets are littered with trash, almost everyone has the same jobs as the ones of the slums, and the food and water are mostly synthetic and tasteless.
The lower Units have a lower life expectancy, the average in the slums, or at least the oldest person Hagan has seen, is only about 60 years. In Units D and C its aboit 70 and the rest is above 85.
Traveling between the Units is easy if you have an official ID, other wise you need to either find someone who can make a convincing fake one or just slip in between the crowds. Most transportation systems aren't expensive, unless you decide to purchase a personal vehicle.
Mostly magnetic trains and busses are used to move around. The fair isn't very expensive only about twenty dollars for the train and thirty for the bus.
