Chapter 20 - Street Vendor

Ah Hagan got more comfortable swinging his personal swords rather than the schools wooden ones and moving in his surprisingly flexible armor, he felt extremely confident in his ability to face anything that might come his way… except for another creature as terrifying as a dragon.

Before Hagan had realized it, he spent nearly the entire day down below the apartments, and he was very famished by now. So, he dismissed his Keepsakes and went to visit the vendors. His favorite was one not too far from where he lived, only about a five minute walk. He grabbed a bit of money from his secret stash his mom left and headed out.

As he got close to the vendor, Hagan inhaled the not so sweet smell of synthetic ingredients being cooked on a grill. He walked up to the stall and polity asked, "Can I get two sandwiches please."

The street vendor, who regularly served to Hagan was an young woman who was about two years older than Hagan. The vendor had black hair and gray eyes, similar to Hagan, her face was beautiful, and she had a calm, pleased look on her face, as if being a food vendor on the streets in the slums was her dream job.

She would occasionally offer free food to Hagan and would help him to earn some money every now and then. When she saw that Hagan was back, she was surprised and excited.

"Oh my, how nice of you to show up again Hagan!"

"Yeah, um, sorry about that, Izzy. I conquered the First Trial and barely had any time to get my stuff from my house before the dragged me to the Academy."

"Oh come, you could have at least stopped by and said something you know."

Hagan had actually missed Izzy a bit, she was the only person who really cared for him in this forsaken world. He sat in a chair that was nearby and began telling Izzy about everything that happened… almost everything.

He left out the part where he got a blessing from the Gods and that he would be able to communicate with them in time. He did however, tell her that he unknowingly became the last sacrifice to be offered to the Gods and that he got a unique Aspect due to that. He also didn't tell her that he couldn't lie anymore.

As they were talking, Izzy gave Hagan a free sandwich as a congratulations and a welcome back gift. He informed her that he would only be back for the next three weeks which soured the good mood a slight bit.

"Well when will you be back?"

"I'm not sure to be honest, maybe two or three months after that."

"Do you need any money or anything, I've been doing pretty well lately so I've got more saved up. If you need any help I'm here for you, Hagan."

Hagan looked at her in the eyes and a small but sincere smile appeared on his face.

"Thank you Izzy, but I really don't need anything. You should use the money you have to upgrade your stall instead, it's looking a bit rickety now." Hagan said as he chuckled a little.

Izzy laughed then remarked, "If you don't like it then how about you try running this so called rickety stall sometime, short stack."

"Hey! I'm not that short!"

They laughed and continued talking until the sun set and they went their separate ways.
