A thousand years ago, the moon suddenly vanished. No one knew why or how it had occurred, just that a minute it was there and the next it wasn't. It reappeared after a month of nights filled with utter darkness, low tides and shorter days, leaving the philosophers and astronomers of that time in awe. But this phenomenon was only the beginning of a series of mysterious events for humanity.
Nine centuries later, lightning struck the earth, but it was more of a large beam of energy that came from the sky. It struck in multiple locations worldwide, causing a global disrupt.
And out of the lightning came beasts; creatures of terrifying appearances and unbelievable abilities with only one goal; to tear apart every last human alive. This event was later known as the Galactic Descent.
Of course, humanity fought back with every bit of power they had. But even their advanced weaponry and hi-tech energy canons could only kill the weaker, smaller beasts. There were beasts of impenetrable skin and massive sizes who took the strongest attacks as mere prickles.
Every second was a battle to survive, as the humans population reduced greatly while that of the beast's increased which was strange, but humanity never gave up.
Few months later, the brilliant scientists began to study the body of the beasts and discovered that every beast possessed a small crystalline structure, known as beast crystals
These crystals contained a mysteriously powerful energy, which the scientists absorbed with the help of an element called nithrium. They harnessed this energy and were able to create a powerful solution called the Evolution serum.
This serums not only granted humans the ability of beast's whose crystals were used but also enhanced the humans physical and physiological capabilities. The people who took the serum were called Evolved Humans.
They changed the tides of the war and within a year the beasts were pushed back, the humans triumphed and balance was restored. With the beasts still living among the humans, only to be hunted and used as resources.
These beasts were later referred to as galactic beasts, as the humans believed they came from beyond the stars.
The discovery of beast crystals and the strange energy it possessed ushered in the biggest golden age for humanity.
Technology advancements has a massive leap due to the new abilities the humans acquired, and adaptations of the crystals.
But humans knew better than to relax and savor their victory. They now knew they weren't the only ones in the universe, and with that knowledge became hungry for exploration. 'Why wait for the unknown to come to us, when we can reach it first'
With their new technological advancement, humanity were now able to travel light years across galaxies, discovering and exploring more planets outside the milky way.
But never found intelligent life, instead they always encountered more galactic beasts, which further confirmed their theory. They set up bases on multiple planets and today human civilizations thrive on five planets, each inhabited by approximately 10 billion people.
Although humanity never stopped traveling, they kept exploring the vastness of the great unknown, with the hopes of one day finding other intelligent lives other than beasts.
*******
On a large remote island, one hidden away from civilization not just by distance but also by magic. A transparent dome of mysterious energy covered the entire island, rendering it invisible and non-existent on the world map.
A small village settlement was based on the island, with housing structures made of woods and mosses, but well designed and filled with elegance. Most houses were on the ground and cliffs, while some were on trees... or rather in trees.
Several people were walking and jumping about trees, chatting and going about their daily lifes, but they were not normal people.
Some of them looked human but had animal like features including animal ears, tails, horns etc. While some completely looked like animals, but were anthropomorphic: having both the skin color and the facial features; eyes, snout, beaks etc of animals. But were bipedal and could talk and behave like normal humans. They even wore clothes.
There were known as the oneiri tribe(people of dreams), also called beastmen. Their ancestors were originally humans, who adapted the features of the animals about a thousand years ago.
They were a kind and loving group of people who loved nature as well, but the humans didn't know that. The beastmen were hunted and killed as though they were actual beasts, and not accepted into society. Thus were forced to live in secrecy and isolation from the world.
They were also spread across the world in multiple hidden locations, and this island was just one of their many havens
In the inner forest of the island, 4 children who seemed to be of the same age, could be seen playing together, jumping from tree to tree like it was nothing
Two of these children were beastmen, while the other two looked like normal humans, with no visible animal features. One of the beastmen was a small boy with black cat ears with a tail, while the other, also a boy had white fox ears and a tail as well.
They both seem to be leaping unto trees with ease, while the two humans could not even balance properly on a branch.
"Ehhh! I'm not interested anymore. Get me down!" A loud shriek came from one of the humans, a little girl with long silver hair and honey coloured eyes. She clutched unto the branch of a tall tree, tears already forming in her eyes
"Uhh! You're such a crybaby, jasmine." the second human responded. A boy who also had silver hair that brushed over his forehead. He wore a small, sleek silver necklace which had the pendant of a crescent, he was also on a large tree branch, standing on it, not caring much for the risk of falling off.
"What! I'm not a crybaby! sob* I'll tell mum you're being a bully." Jasmine replied, already shedding crocodile tears
The boy had a smug look on his face, staring at his sister indifferently, he was already used to her suddenly tearing up when she didn't get what she wanted
He sighed "Hey Darien! Kito! Jasmine wants to get down from the tree," he yelled at the two beastmen children who were distance away from them
"Okay!"
"We'll be right there!"
They replied, and started leaping from branch to branch, with speed and precision, and soon they arrived at the spot where the two human children were.
They each landed on the branches that occupied the humans. Darien lifted the boy like a toy and carried him like a princess, while Kito carried Jasmine on his back.
The boys nodded to one another and jumped off the tree branch, falling from a height of about 20 feet. They landed gracefully on the forest floor, brushing the jump like it was a mere step.
"I still can't get used to that," the boy said, pouting as Darien put him down
"The jump?" Darien asked
"No, the way you carry me." he replied "It's embarrassing," the boy added, his cheeks flushed red from embarrassment
The children started laughing, all except for the boy who stood pouting with an annoyed look
"Well, you all look like you're having fun, mind if I cut in?" A mature feminine voice said from behind the children, pausing their laughter
It was a tall woman in her late 30s, she had long silver hair that radiated with her light skin and amber eyes, she had nice curves and large brea... Cough* That enough details. you know... for the kids.
"Mommy!" Jasmine exclaimed with joy as she ran towards her
The woman welcomed her in a warm embrace and carried her up with ease
"Alright children, sorry to ruin your playtime, but it's late already." she said in a serious tone, but with a gentle smile
The children all had sad looks on their faces, but they knew they had to comply, the woman standing really tall in front of them didn't take no for an answer. Anytime she was happy she smiled, anytime she was angry, she also smiled.
"Of.. of course aunt Cyll, we'll be going home now," Kito said, before he and Darius waved to Jasmine and the boy then bolted
"Mom! You terrified them, again!" the boy said, staring at his mother with displeasure
But before the mother could reply, Jasmine cut in
"Hey! Don't yell at mother. It's not her fault that she's an alpha lady, her presence is god-like. All men must submit," she said in defense of her mother
"You... you were crying like a baby just few minutes ago, begging to be carried of the tree," the boy snickered to which the girl also retorted, and they continued bickering with no intention of stopping
The woman chuckled at the cute sight of her children quarreling
"Alright! That's enough." she said with a stern voice, ending the scuffle instantly. She had that 'Take-charge' motherly aura.
"Let's go home shall we?"
The children nodded and left the forest with their mother, heading back to their house. Which was just in another forest-like residential area.
