Lucy's Point of View
"You're worthless as a Luna," my mother-in-law hissed.
I stood there, frozen, as her words cut through me like a knife. The pack hall fell silent, all eyes on us. I wanted to disappear, to run away, but I couldn't move.
"A whole year of marriage, and still no heir," she continued, her voice dripping with disgust. "What good are you to this pack?"
I opened my mouth to defend myself, but no words came out. What could I say? She was right. I had failed in my duty as the Alpha's mate. The whispers and judgmental stares of the pack members around me only confirmed it.
My husband, the Alpha, stood silently beside his mother. He didn't even look at me. His silence hurt more than his mother's words.
" You better look for solution to your miserable situation before I throw you out. After all I never wanted you for my son." My Mother in law yelled and walked away. This has been my life over a year now. I haven't been able to bear an heir and my mother in law won't let me have my peace.
Few days after the last confrontation I had with my mother in law and my husband, Alpha Alfred, I finally decided to go see a doctor. I have feeling been sick for over two weeks now but haven't paid much attention to it. I initially thought that it was because of the constant scolding from them.
At The Pack Hospital
I nervously fidgeted with the hem of my shirt as I waited for the doctor to return with my test results. The sterile smell of the hospital made me nauseous, or maybe it was just my nerves.
Dr. Simmons walked in, his face unreadable. "Mrs. Lucy, I have your results."
My heart raced. "Is everything okay?"
He smiled, and I felt a glimmer of hope.
I'm pleased to announce that you're One Month gone" He announced and my brows furrowed, wondering if I had been sick for long."
Congratulations, you're pregnant."
The words hit me like a tidal wave. Pregnant. After all this time, it had finally happened. Tears of joy and relief streamed down my face.
"Are you sure?" I asked, barely able to contain my excitement.
"Absolutely. You're about one month along."
I couldn't contain my excitement, I was finally pregnant. My mother in law, the Alpha and pack members will be pleased to hear this great news.
I walked back to the pack as fast as possible to share the good news to everyone.
As I approached the pack house, I saw a crowd gathering. Curious, I made my way through the throng of people. That's when I heard it.
"Alpha is expecting a child!" someone exclaimed.
My heart soared. Had the news spread so quickly?
Has Dr called the Alpha to share the good news?
But then I saw her – my step-sister, Sarah, standing next to Alfred and his mother. They were beaming.
"This child will be loved by everyone," my mother-in-law announced, her arms around Aris . "Thank you for fulfilling our wishes."
The world seemed to tilt on its axis. My step-sister was pregnant... with my husband's child. The joy I had felt moments ago shattered into a million pieces.
As the pack celebrated around me, I stood there, invisible and broken. My step sister and family has betrayed me. Tears streamed down my eyes as I watched the scenario in front of me.
I turned to walk away when my step mother voice stopped me.
I turned to walk away when my step-mother's voice stopped me.
"Lucy! There you are," she called out, her voice dripping with false sweetness. "Come join us in celebrating the wonderful news."
I froze, my back still turned to the crowd. Slowly, I wiped the tears from my face and took a deep breath before turning around. The fake smile I plastered on my face felt like it might crack at any moment.
"What wonderful news?" I asked, feigning ignorance as I approached them.
My mother-in-law beamed, her arm still around Aris . "Your sister is pregnant! Isn't it marvelous? The pack will finally have its heir."
I looked at Aris, then at Alfred. His eyes met mine for a brief moment before he looked away, guilt written all over his face.
"Congratulations," I managed to choke out, the word tasting like ash in my mouth. "How... how far along are you?"
Aris miled, her hand resting on her stomach. "About a month. We wanted to be sure before announcing it to everyone."
One month. The same as me. The irony of it all was almost too much to bear.
"Lucy, dear," my mother-in-law said, her tone sickeningly sweet, "isn't this wonderful? Now you can stop worrying about producing an heir and focus on your other duties as Luna."
I felt a surge of anger rise within me. How dare they? How dare they betray me like this and then expect me to celebrate?
"Actually," I said, my voice surprisingly steady, "I have some news of my own."
All eyes turned to me, curiosity evident on their faces.
"I just came from the doctor," I continued, my hand unconsciously moving to my stomach. "I'm pregnant too. Also one month along."
The silence that followed was deafening. I watched as shock, disbelief, and then panic flashed across their faces. Alfred's eyes widened, darting between me and Aris.
My mother-in-law was the first to recover. "That's... that's impossible," she sputtered. "You must be mistaken."
"I'm not," I said firmly. "Dr. Simmons confirmed it just now."
The crowd around us began to murmur, confusion and excitement mixing in the air. I could see the wheels turning in my mother-in-law's head, trying to figure out how to spin this situation.
But I wasn't going to give her the chance. I'd had enough.
"I think I need some air," I said, turning away from their stunned faces, but my mother held me from going. " What did you think you're trying to do?"
Pretend like you're pregnant and disgrace this Pack?
I held myself taking a deep breath. It wasn't enough that this people betrayed me, they are still trying to make me feel bad for having a child they had always wanted.
I turned around and brought out the test results from my purse and walked straight to My husband and then threw the test results on him.
My mother in law went to him and dragged the results scanning it in shock.
". She's truly pregnant."
