Chapter 6 - SECRETS AND LIES

The car that picked me up belonged to an older woman named Martha. She drove me to the next town over, asking no questions about why I was leaving the hospital in the middle of the night. I was grateful for her kindness.

When we reached the town, I thanked Martha and got out. It was early morning now, the streets just beginning to come alive. I had no plan, no money, and nowhere to go. But I was free.

I wandered the streets for hours, trying to figure out my next move. My stomach growled, reminding me I hadn't eaten since yesterday. As I passed a small diner, the smell of food made me dizzy with hunger.

Gathering my courage, I went in. Maybe they'd let me work for a meal. As I approached the counter, I bumped into someone hard.

"Watch where you're going!" a deep, angry voice growled.

I looked up to see a tall, intimidating man glaring down at me. His eyes were a piercing blue, and he had an aura of power that made me step back.

"I-I'm sorry," I stammered. "I didn't mean to-"

He cut me off. "Just stay out of my way."

The man pushed past me and sat at a booth. The whole diner seemed to go quiet, everyone stealing glances at him.

I approached the counter, my legs shaking. The waitress looked at me nervously.

"Excuse me," I said quietly. "I don't have any money, but I was wondering if I could work for some food?"

The waitress looked sympathetic but shook her head. "I'm sorry, honey. We don't do that here."

My shoulders slumped. I was about to leave when I heard that deep voice again.

"Give her whatever she wants. Put it on my tab."

I turned to see the man I'd bumped into watching me. His face was still stern. He didn't bother to look at me.

"Th-thank you," I said, surprised.

Despite thanking him, he still did not respond to me.

I sat by a corner eating alone.. few minutes after I was done eating and I sat down thinking of where to go. When I looked around the restaurant, it was only me and the man that bought me the food that was left. He was drinking and sitting alone.

After a while of watching him closely, I went close to him and sat opposite him. "Thank you for the food" I mumbled. But he still did not say a word to me.

I was started to feel awkward at the same time scared. I needed a place to stay and he was my only option right now.

"Sir please I need your help, I begged the man kneeling on the floor so I could get his attention." He eyed me for a while before finally speaking.

"What can I do for you?"

"Sir, please," I said, my voice trembling. "I have nowhere to go. I'm completely helpless. Can you please help me?"

The man's eyes narrowed, his face twisting into a scowl. "Is that why you think I bought you food? So you could beg for more?"

His voice rose, causing me to flinch. "Get out of my way!" he yelled, standing up abruptly.

Desperation took over, and I found myself grabbing onto his legs. "Please," I begged, tears streaming down my face. "I'll repay you however you want. Just please, help me."

He tried to shake me off, but I held on tighter. "Let go of me, woman!" he growled.

But I couldn't. This was my last hope. "Please," I whispered again, my whole body shaking.

For a long moment, he stood there, silent and still. I could feel the tension in his body, could almost hear the internal struggle in his mind.

Finally, he let out a long, exasperated sigh. "Fine," he said, his voice low and controlled. "Get up."

I scrambled to my feet, hardly daring to believe what I was hearing.

He looked at me, his blue eyes intense and unreadable. "Follow me," he commanded.

Without another word, he turned and walked towards the exit. I hurried after him, my heart pounding with fear. I had no idea who this man was or where he was taking me, but I was trying to be hopeful.

He took me to his car, and finally we got to a very Magnificent building. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Was this man this rich or he works for someone. We both came down from his car and about five different armed men rushed to him.

" Welcome my king" they bowed to him and I looked at them wondering why they were calling him their king. Is he an Alpha?

After we got to the main building, the man in question asked someone that was dressed as a maid to take me to their quarters.

The maid led me to a small, cramped room in the servants' quarters. It was clean but basic, with just a bed, a small dresser, and a tiny window. As I looked around, a wave of sadness washed over me. Just days ago, I was a Luna, living in luxury. Now, I was grateful for this tiny room in the servants' area.

I sat on the bed, feeling lost and overwhelmed. But I reminded myself that this was better than being on the streets or back with my old pack.

A few hours later, there was a knock at the door. Another maid told me the man who brought me here had summoned me to his study.

My heart racing, I followed her through the grand hallways of the building . We stopped at a large, ornate door. The maid knocked and ushered me in.

The man from the diner sat behind a massive desk, looking even more intimidating than before.

"From today, you'll be working as a maid in this palace," he said without preamble, his voice cold and authoritative.

I gasped, wanting to protest. After all, I had been a Luna. But before I could speak, he held up his hand, silencing me.

Just then, a man in a guard's uniform burst into the room. "Your Majesty, we've begun preparations for the welcoming party. The other packs are excited to meet the new Lycan King."

I stood for a moment wondering if I heard the maid correctly. Then a woman around my age walked "Finally you will be introduced to the werewolf community, everyone has been waiting to see the Lycan King." The lady said smiling sheepishly.

I froze, my eyes widening as realization dawned on me. This man wasn't just an Alpha or a wealthy werewolf. He was the Lycan King, the ruler of all werewolves.

The guard continued, "King Xavier, shall we proceed with the guest list as planned?"

Xavier. The Lycan King's name was Xavier.

I stood there, shocked and overwhelmed. I had begged the most powerful werewolf in the world for help, and now I was his maid. He gave a curt nod to the guard and faced me. From today, you're going to be my personal maid, which means you will be accompanying me as my personal maid on the day of my introduction. He said and dismissed me with a wave of his hand, I stumbled out of the room with fear.

What the hell did I just hear? I will be accompanying The Lycan King to his welcoming party as his maid?
