Chapter 2 - Bearing The Impact

Amelia stared at her mom's face for a few seconds, her facial expressions telling how sad she was about her decision.

"Who is going to take care of the family affairs?!". Mrs Charles asked, she was very infuriated at the decision Amelia had taken.

Amelia kept calm for some seconds, her gaze shifted from her mom towards Amber.

"She surely can take care of that, she is still employed". She said,

"There is no doubt about it as you always keep taking foolish actions in all you do!!". Amber yelled at her with anger

"And what makes you think I can do that with my little earnings?". She snapped at her, her voice still filled with anger.

"Yes, I believe you can do that until I get a perfect job". Amelia said as she nodded her head in affirmation of what she said.

"I don't care about your beliefs, the thing is you are always off guard, never having anything fruitful in your life to show off!". Amber said with a mocking face.

"Listen! if it's the reason why you quit your job without first paving way for a better solution for it, then I am out of this game. You can't just keep on making stupid mistakes in your life and expect us to fend for your mistakes". Amber said, she picked up her phone from the table and left the dining table.

"Have you forgotten you have a child to take care of? Or are you also going to shift that responsibility to us also". Mrs Charles asked, her face downcast.

"I know, I'm fully aware about everything happening in this home before I made such a decision and I also know things would get sorted out once I get another job". Amelia assured her mom as she tried calming down the anger in her.

"You've got no plans, so how sure are we that you would get another job before the end of the month?". Mrs Charles asked, recalling that she hadn't made any arrangements and should not be so certain about getting a job.

"I would check for one". Amelia brushed.

"And?". Mrs Charles asked.

"And what?". Amelia asked uncertain of what else her mom still expected from her.

"Who would pay the fees of Jasmine?". Her mom asked, still bringing back to her notice that Jasmine studies were meant for her to take care of.

"The little I have with me would be able to take care of that". She said,

"I'm still uncertain about that". Her mom pushed further.

"I'm sure I would be able to handle that!". Amelia shouted getting angry at the way her mom tried extending the topic further.

"Does it seem to you that I am going to sit home for ages and remain unemployed?". She reduced the anger in her voice.

"Yes!! You suddenly quit a job it took you years to get, how certain I'm I that you would have one better than the one you just left". Mrs Charles shouted, her voice expressing how angry she was.

"That was the last time, not now. Why do you keep resurfacing things from the past anytime I make a decision?". Amelia asked, but rather calmly this time.

"Because you were so foolish to get used by someone who never cared to ask about you or his child". Mrs Charles said, her voice filled with harshness.

Tears welled up in Amelia's eyes as her mom spoke about her past. Things got really messy for her when Jai had to deny her pregnancy to protect his family reputation and her daughter was left with no one to call a father. Her family never got to meet him neither have she ever revealed to them who the father of her child was. She wasn't just going to sit there and watch her mom speak about her old memories.

"That was years ago, Why do you still speak about it?". She asked her mom.

"Because you would keep on making foolish mistakes if one does not remind you of your past mistakes". Mrs Charles said letting out a huge sigh.

"Then don't talk about it again". Amelia said, she stood up angrily and walked out.

Amelia laid lazily on her bed, staring at her ceiling. She was soaked in thoughts, her mom was right, she had no arrangements for getting another job but she just had to be brave to avoid her mom pushing her from side to side.

"Well, let me enjoy my time off while it lasts". She said as she brightened up her face and picked up one of the books on her table and glanced through it.

"I've got good news for you". Mrs Charles announced while they were having dinner.

"Oh!! You seem very excited about it. Why don't you spill it out". Amber said as she gulped down a full spoon of rice into her mouth.

"It's not for you, I meant Amelia actually". She said as her smile widened from end to end. Amber let out a huge sigh as she raised an eyebrow at Amelia, she wondered what goodnews her mom had for her that made her so excited.

"So what's the good news about?". Amber asked, getting impatient as she was really eager to find out what had happened out of the blue that had made her mom so excited for Amelia.

"I met an old friend of mine today, she is the managing director of Dan Millian Company Limited, she took over her husband after his death". Mrs Charles said with lots of smiles on her cheeks.

"And what happened? Definitely you are not happy because you met an old friend". Amelia chipped in.

"She wasn't done talking, let her finish before making remarks". Amber snapped at her.

"You don't have to be so harsh". Mrs Charles intervened immediately to stop them from having a quarrel as they always end up doing.

"And the company is looking for a well educated Accountant who can take care of all the records of the company spendings". She said as the smile on her face got less.

"So why is it a big news". Amelia said, having a sneer on her face.

"Yeah, it's surely a good thing because they are in need of an Accountant". Amber said, flickering.

"Maybe you can go do another trial and come back with a failure or even get dropped after a month or two". She added mockingly.

"That's right, how did you think of it". Mrs Charles praised Amber with smiles.

"Are you saying you want me to work there?". Amelia asked, her jaws dropping in astonishment.

"Yes, I told her that you are going to work with her and I also submitted an application for you". Mrs Charles said as her smile broadened.

"You did what?!!". It seemed like Amelia was about to get swallowed by the earth the way she shouted out in shock.
