Chapter 20 - Being Humane

"You're finally free, Luther. Your tail has left the show…"

Victor Maes, Luther's agent announced as soon as he entered the studio. The idol who was preparing for his upcoming performance for the show, paused his movement as he caught what his agent had just said…

"The company and the production team had just released a statement. Maevie's withdrawing from the show."

Victor explained what he meant when he got the questioning look from both the Idol and his assistant.

"Really? I thought even death could not pursue her away from show." The assistant commented. Then he turned to his boss and made a funny face,

"After all… She had been chasing our boss for ages now."

The man in question did not make any particular face when being teased. Just asked a question.

"Why…?" He was still short on his breath from practicing the dance. "Why is she leaving?"

"Hmm?? You don't know?" Victor was surprised Luther was unaware of Maevie's situation.

The Idol had already lost his interest in what his agent was on about and went back to perfecting his steps. The pale brown eyes following the image of himself reflecting in the mirror as though he was his own prey.

"Is it because of the drug party scandal? Big Boss has finally decided to clean the company after that?" And it turned out Kennie, who was Luther's assistant, was as uninformed as her boss.

"You haven't heard it yet?" Victor was shocked that the social butterfly was missing out on this hottest topic. "It's all over the news."

"My phone's in repair. I've touched any gadget for two days." Kennie hurriedly gave her excuse.

"No wonder."

"Don't divert the topic. Tell me what's going on." Kennie had always been a gossip thirst soul.

"Well… Maevie got into an accident two days ago…"

As soon as the sentence came out of the man's lips, Luther paused his steps and turned to the two companions of his.

"It was a blazing fire. The netizens were cursing her for drunk driving and injuring an innocent bystander. I also thought that the young lady was reckless as ever and almost contributed to the cursing."

"Almost?" Kennie questioned.

"Yeah! But thankfully I didn't."

"??"

"It turned out the other party was the one speeding lost control. I've seen the video of the accident. Have to say… Maevie's guardian angel was calling out for her…"

"There's a video?"

"Yeah! Wanna see?"

"Yeah."

The agent took out his phone and showed it to the assistant. The two was so indulged in their conversation that they did not notice the towering frame behind them looking at the small screen of the smart phone.

"Shit!!!" Kennie could not help cursing. "She was inches away from crossing the bridge."

She said referring to the believe that every soul, after death, would cross the bridge of judgement on the way to after life.

It was only when a shadow fell on the screen that the two, Victor and Kennie, became aware that Luther was behind them. They turned back to see a face that looked like he had been haunted by an unnatural entity.

"Luther? You… okay?"

Victor questioned. It was not normal for his artist to look so lost like this.

"Yeah…"

The idol responded before turning away from the agent and assistant pair. His heart slowed down when he heard his agent say Maevie had gotten into an accident. And it almost stopped when he saw the car racing towards her.

Without another word, the idol restarted the music and began to practice his moved again. Victor and Kennie watched their boss sweat nonstop for a long twenty minutes without any rest to catch his breath.

They two shared a look in exchange of words. Then Victor walked up to the controller and turned off the music. Luther was a bit lost at the first few seconds, wondering what cause the music to stop.

Then he saw his agent with the remote and knew it was Victor who turned it off.

"What are you doing?"

"Take rest for a few minutes."

Luther did not argue and headed to the couch and sat down. He felt a hard bump on his seat and check. It turned out to be his phone which he had abandoned ever since he came inside the studio.

He stared at the phone for a while. Then he opened the contact list and entered Tyler… His finger hovered above the call button. But it never pressed down it. Until the screen turned black and the phone was uncaringly let to fall on the couch again.

Victor saw the unusual actions of his artist.

"If you're concerned for her wellbeing, I've heard from a staff that she is doing okay and only attained minor injuries and will be discharged tomorrow."

He informed Luther to ease his mind.

"What? You starting to care for her? Don't tell me you've fallen for her…" Kennie's voice of disbelief came.

Victor was also feeling that same. In fact. He had many doubts regarding what Luther felt for the young woman. After all, even though the man ignores her, he had never used any harsh words on tone to her. He feared if his artist was just in denial of his feelings.

And if truth were to be told, Maevie's unhidden love of Luther was moving. If only she was not as troublesome and had… Had a bit a restrain over her temper, he would not have any problem with her.

So… He doubted if Luther really was as resistant to her love… Her unending love of years as he let on.

"No."

But the man in question denied without a pause.

"Then why…"

Before the agent could complete his question, the idol gave him a cold stare.

"My concern for her is not that of what you're thinking. I would feel the same concern for any person I know of. It's what we call being humane is.

Not to mention, Maevie is the sister of my friend. I've been seeing her since she was nine. Witnessed her growing up. It's only natural for me to be concerned for her as an she's someone I know."

"…"

The agent and the assistant who doubted Luther did not say a word. After all… All what the man said was a fact. But the way he put it made then fell that they were not humane for not being concerned for Maevie.

"Don't read too much into it."

Saying that, dancer snatched the controller from his agent and started the music once again.
