The echoes of shattering glass still rang in Scarlett's ears as she managed to crawl behind the overturned table, her heart pounding against her ribs. Victoria clung to her arm, trembling as the masked figure stalked toward them, his boots hitting against the broken glasses on the floor.
"You shouldn't have ignored the warning," he said, his voice inaudible by the fabric covering his face.
Scarlett's mind raced, calculating their options. There was no way out through the front, and the back exit was too far to reach without being seen. She glanced at Victoria, who was afraid. Her face was frozen in fear.
