I swam from the old mermaid's throne room and nearly crashed into another scaley tail. The tail flicked sending me tumbling backwards.
I looked up and met the eye of a withered woman.
"My brother let you off too easy," She spoke in a quiet yet furious voice.
I tried to skirt around her. She flicked her tail into my face making me cough up bubbles.
"Not so fast Princess Lit-An," She then let out a long tired sigh, "I am Picii, brother of the King and Queen of the sea."
I blinked several times in confusion.
She must have read my facial expression because her lips stiffened in disgust.
"We rule jointly and that is all," She sniffed, "My brother has grown much softer with age, but I think you need to know our truth."
"Please, Your Highness, my friends," I bowed my head.
"Can wait," She snarled, "You know we weren't much older than you when we came into power."
