Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Unedited Chapter

Adelaide waited for a while, but Ethan had not arrived. She could only have tea.

It just so happens that Edward decides to visit her.

The guards did not allow him. That was until Adelaide found out about the argument between the guards and Edward from one of the maids.

She wanted to send Edward back as she did not want to have anything to do with him. But after thinking about it for a while, she decided to let him in.

Therefore, she informed one of the maids to let him in.

Edward gave the guards a smug smile when the news got to them.

"See, even your Princess Consort wishes to see me, I don't know where my brother found such rude guards," Ethan scoffed as he was led by one of the guards.

The guards remained quiet, but inside of them, they were boiling at his ridiculous statement. They had to quickly inform Ethan of Edward's presence in the courtyard.

Edward was led to the garden, and a smile appeared on his face when he saw Adelaide seated around a table with different snacks on the table.

To him, he felt that she prepared them for him, and the smugness in his heart increased. It was even clear on his face.

"Princess Adelaide," he greeted with a smile, which disgusted Adelaide.

"Leave us," Adelaide ordered..

The guards immediately left the garden, but Marie was about to protest when she was shut by a look from Adelaide.

She could only swallow the words in her mouth before she walked out of the garden, not without giving a side eye to Edward who did not bother to pay attention to her.

"Why are you here?" Adelaide asked calmly as she stared at the first Prince of Asteria.

"Won't you invite me to have a seat?" Edward asked with a smile.

"I don't think we are that close for me to invite you to sit," Adelaide replied as she looked up to him with an innocent smile.

Edward's smile fell off on hearing what she said.

"And besides, you came uninvited, I don't think I should be so friendly with someone I don't consider a friend," Adelaide continued, and each of her words stung Edward.

"Did you invite me just to insult me?" Edward asked, the friendliness in his voice disappearing at once..

Adelaide did not reply as she gave him an innocent look, which irked him.

He took a deep breath, before plastering a smile on his face. Adelaide stared at him suspiciously. The smile on his face was enough for her to be scared of what he was about to say.

And true to her thoughts, his next words caused her entire body to become pale.

"You know you are just a sacrificial being, right?" Edward smiled as he took a seat. Seeing that she was not going to invite him to take a seat, he invited himself to take a seat.

"What do you mean by that?" Adelaide asked with curiosity, but her heart was in her mouth while she asked the question.

Of course, she understood what he meant by that, but she was not going to let him realize that she felt bad with his words.

"I know you know what I am talking about, you do not need to play dumb, you are just a sacrificial being, a spoil of war," Edward's words stung deeply, but Adelaide swallowed the pain as she gave him a smile.

"Are you done?" As Adelaide was about to speak, they heard a familiar voice, and they both turned to look at the person, it was Ethan.

"I asked a question, are you done?" Ethan's face was devoid of any emotion as he stepped into the garden fully.

"Little brother, I thought you would be busy, why are you here?" Edward asked in surprise.

"Do you really need me to answer that question? I should be the one to ask such questions," Ethan scoffed as he went behind Adelaide who was relieved to have him around her.

"I did not mean it that way, I found out that you were not around, and I felt she would be bored, so I decided to keep her company," Edward smiled.

At the end of the day, he could not still go against his junior brother.

"Is that so?" Ethan asked slowly, staring straight into his brother's eyes.

"Of course, do you doubt me?" Edward replied.

"Of course, I doubt you, you are not to be trusted, alright, I believe you have fulfilled your mission, as you can see, I am here now," Ethan grinned while looking at Edward whose face soured instantly.

"Of course, I will take my leave now," he replied, and decided to leave, not without giving Adelaide and Ethan one last look.

"What did he say to you?" Ethan questioned immediately Ethan exited the garden.

"Nothing," Adelaide replied while she bowed her head.

"Nothing? Are you sure about that? Do you believe I can find out the truth? So I think it is best if you tell me what he said to you," Ethan threatened in a low voice which caused her to swallow.

"Believe me, it is nothing serious, you do not need to bother yourself about it," Adelaide was firm on her words.

"Okay," Ethan replied, giving in immediately. His actions caused Adelaide to be taken aback.

Ethan's reaction was totally different from her expectations. She had thought he would pester her to give him an answer, but he didn't do any of that.

Anyway, she was glad he did not continue with the questioning, for she was at a loss on how she was to reply.

"Your parents were here," Adelaide informed, changing the topic immediately.

"Is that so?" Ethan asked as he picked up a strawberry to put in his mouth.

"Yes, they gave me these herbs, and wished me a quick recovery," Adelaide informed him, while pushing the herbs to him.

Ethan frowned when he noticed the herbs. His face fell when the smell of the herbs wafted into his nose.
