Chapter 24 - First floor of the grim dungeon

After they all entered the dungeon together, the small lanterns on the walls beside them, were lit with flames, of both blue and orange as they walked the path, not knowing what they might find or bump into, since many deaths come to those who enter certain dungeons, especially ones with more than one sections, ones like the one they had just entered.

As they walked, Lilian stepped on something that cracked and she jumped but, before she could scream, Sion covered her mouth with his hands as one of the members among the other groups which was behind them, used a staff, creating a small floating light ball, to see what she had just stepped on.

As the ball lit up the path a bit more, Lilian's eyes widened, when she saw a skeleton on the floor, not just one, but many lined up and the others from the groups behind them, gasped as they stayed together, sticking with their teammates and Sion's eyes narrowed, as he glanced at Nethaniel.

He looked at Sion and Lilian, before crouching down and his brows furrowed when he saw a bit of green slimy substance on one of the skeletons and he stood back up, as he glanced around them and the tight space they were in.

He knew that if they were attacked by any creature, it would be difficult for them to fight, leaving them at a disadvantage.

"We need to find open grounds, we cannot stay in this space, move it, stay close and watch where you are going, try not to make too much noise," He said as he kept on walking, taking the lead and the others followed behind him, not saying anything, since he had more experience than they did.

"Be careful, the substance that he just found. It is not from something that will bring good news, that much I can assure you, " the creature said as it appeared behind his neck once again. He tensed a bit before sighing.

"You need to stop doing that, also give me a name to call you and a real and proper one, do not make a fool of me," He said quietly to it and it chuckled.

"Call me Aina," She replied and Sion nodded as she hid herself behind his hair, keeping a close eye on their surroundings.

Sion glanced at her, wondering why she just kept following him around, knowing it could not be just because of the aura, she mentioned the last time, but now was not the time to discuss certain things, so he decided to leave that for another day.

As they walked, they saw a bright light coming from ahead and upon entering it, they came into a large opening, the first part of the dungeon, filled with many different types of ruin, some of the broken walls, some of the skeletons, broken armors and blood stains on the floor, parts of it was grim in their eyes, many of them among other groups had already begun getting second thoughts.

Sion looked around at the room they were in and his eyes narrowed as he saw the same strange markings on some of the nearby walls in there.

[That is it again, same as the markings you saw outside of the dungeon, at the entrance door, those are rune spells, created by only those who can use runic magic, which is another difficult talent, this place is dangerous, you need to be careful some of these markings can activate spells, powerful ones.]

After hearing the system's warnings, he decided to keep a safe distance from the markings on the walls and Nethaniel glanced at him, as the others looked around.

While doing so, the way in which they entered the room, disappeared and was closed off by another wall, that appeared out of nowhere and some of them gasped.

"What is happening?" Sano asked as Lilian stayed close to them since she lacked fighting prowess.

"The dungeon is changing, that's what's happening now, we have to find out way out, only my finishing the dungeon, no one will be able to leave before then," Nethaniel responded and some of them looked alarmed upon hearing his words and he sighed.

Just then the ground beneath their feet began rumbling and Sion looked down as some of the markings on the walls, began glowing, each with a different colour and two doors appeared in different parts of the room.

"Stay close to each other, this is only now getting started, you do not want to get separated," Nethaniel said as magical circles began appearing in many corners of the room.

From them leaped a few magical beasts, which caused the others to grab their weapons. They were on guard immediately, knowing that if they did not fight, death would come to them faster than they could possibly imagine, and Sion's eyes began glowing a little.

[Skill: Barrier activated.]

Before any of the creatures could attack her, one of them crashed into the barrier, which pushed it back, sending it crashing into one of the pillars, causing it to crumble.

Nethaniel glanced at him as his eyes glowed slightly gold and he stepped forward as two markings appeared in his eyes and a blade which had a red stripe and a gold crest appeared in his hand.

Sion's eyes widened a bit as he sensed the aura around him and the blade, which were both different and powerful.

'What is he really capable of?' He wondered as a dark spider creature with red eyes, rushed forth, shooting sticky webs, which seemed to release acid upon contact, burning anything it touched.

"Watch out," Sion warned, yanking Lilian to safety since she was in the way of its attack and the girl's eyes widened as she clung to him. At the same time, the spider lunged towards them as well as a few other creatures.

Sion's eyes glowed bright orange, and he unleashed a firebolt that separated into many different parts, striking several creatures and setting them ablaze.

At the same time, the spider who managed to dodge his attack, took advantage of the situation, since Sion was focused on keeping Lilian safe and it was about to attack him from the side.

However, before he could react or launch a counterattack, Nathaniel came in front of them and launched an assault that disintegrated the spider, and dark blue flames consumed it causing the creature to screech and his flames scorched the ground beneath them.
