Chapter 1 - No Avail

Death. A natural form of life, something that comes easy for some, something that comes painful, some accept it, some deny it, some prays for it to end their suffering, while others begged for another chance at life, either way it is something that eventually comes knocking at your front door, something unpredictable.

Such a time came in which cries were heard throughout the city, where the lives of millions of people were at stake, where a situation unlike any had ever expected came to be, like seen in novels or comics, something similar to the apocalypse came to face the world of the modern, the world where men depended on technology now had no way to save their lives, to help them escape the fate before their eyes.

Throughout the city, screams could be heard, as monsters descended from the sky and portals opened out of thin air with monstrous looking beings exiting them, running amuck in the city as the people tried to get to shelter, to save themselves or their loved ones.

Some went down on their knees praying out to the gods for help, screaming their names in their last moments, hoping for some shred of hope as the streets were being painted red to all those who defied.

Among them, was a young man named Sion, he was a college student who was admitted to the hospital a few days after he was sent into the army as a test subject for one of their projects, they had been creating to enhance their military power in the process of his training, he lost a leg and part of his arm.

The incident happened during the first invasion, causing the entire project to fall apart and he as well as others who were there, had been severely injured and rushed to the city hospital, where they resided.

Sion had many injuries both internally and physically, rendering him on the brink of death, his injuries were so severe that the doctors could not do anything to extend his life, anything that they could try would lead to one thing... Death.

He knew that he had little time to live and now he was laying in the hospital bed, looking out the large windows as flames were in the air within the city, screams and sirens as well as bullets being shot, he could hear them from a mile away.

The soldiers desperately tried to do their jobs and defend themselves as well as the people within the city, from the monsters but to no avail, some of the creature's bodies were enhances, some of them could withstand the impact of the bullets, it bounced off of them as though they were made from steel.

He could see some of the nurses and doctors as well as other patients, rushing around the hospital, desperately trying to seek shelter away from the invasion, as the lights flickered in the hospital and their wails echoed throughout the empty hallways of the hospital.

He looked outside as the sky was turning red and purple and his eyes narrowed, he knew deep down that all of their efforts would be futile, for this was something men could not comprehend, nor were they prepared for it.

He knew survival was now only a mere illusion at that time, it was something they could not fight against. Sion limped off of his bed, taking deep breaths as he struggled to breathe and he looked outside.

The sky seemed beautiful yet he knew better, it was dangerous and a sign of their impending destruction, he knew this was something mankind would not be able to survive from.

He closed his eyes as he listened to the screams of the people, calling out to their gods for help, both believers and non-believers, on their knees, even in the streets, looking for some shred of hope, but to no avail, the creatures were taking over the city in waves.

"Sion, I will help you get help..." The voice of a nurse snapped him out of his trance and he slowly opened his eyes as he turned around to look at her frantic and almost pleading face.

She was someone who had often taken care of him and kept his company during his time in the hospital and he smiled at her gently before slowly raising his hand and patting her tears as she bit back her tears she knew as much as he did, running and seeking help was pointless.

"It's fine..." He said to her, his voice a mere whisper as he looked outside and and helped hold him up and he sighed, knowing she was not going to leave his side and he felt sorry for her.

Sion had no one else in the world, at least not that he knew of, he was an average paid college student with good grades, skilled in many things, with no parents, an orphan, whose parents had abandoned him for being an unplanned child, which made the current situation stung even more.

He had no idea what it was like to have a family, he hoped that someday he would be able to have that privilege, but now, that hope was slowly fading away.

At that moment, as the sky began growing purple and red, it reflected in his and the nurse's eyes as she clung to his side and their skins began feeling as though it was being scorched, even though there was nothing to give off heath around them.

He felt fear, dread, anger and all of the emotions that he had held back within him for years, came flowing in all at once, he did not want to die, like most, he wanted a chance at life, he wanted a second chance.

The nurse beside him prayed silently as she clung to him with tears streaming down her cheeks and he soothed her with a pat as tears came prick his eyes as one thought came to his mind.

'I do not want to die, please gods above.'

He gazed outside of the hospital, beyond the window, as everything was consumed by a sphere of purple and red light, and the screams of people intensified.

He held the girl closer to him as he gritted his teeth in anguish. The glass of the window before him shattered, its fragments suspended in the air. He felt a heat as intense as the scorching sun envelop him before everything faded to black.
