Chapter 20 - I wised you the best of...........

Devin's Point of View

"Mate...?" I let out impulsively as I was trying to understand what had just happened to me... I was dripping wet, alright, but then, the ravishing scent that I had perceived had me rooted to the spot.

I stared at her in disbelief as I wondered what exactly it was that had been masking her scent all that time. Whatever it was seemed to have been washed away by the water that had and was still gushing out on us at that point.

"Mate...?" she let out in like manner as we were both lost in each other's eyes at that point. It seemed like I was about to lose my mind completely as I was staring at my mate. My masking cologne had also been washed off by the eater.

At that point, I felt like finding the driver of that car and giving them a spanking for being so stupid. But then, I wouldn't have known that the person I had been trying to catch all night was my mate.

"How could this be...?" I muttered under my breath as I noticed that she was shivering all that time. It was hard to tell if she was shivering from the cold or if she was shivering from the fright of being so up close to me.

"Impossible..." she let out as she backed away from me with two steps. The look on her face was like that of one who had seen a ghost. It was quite awkward the way she was reacting to all of it.

In a few moments, I could feel my anger simmering away as I could feel my wolf coming alive in a way that he hadn't done in a while. There were just too many things that made me feel like I was never going to remain the same after that encounter.

My wolf was hopping around in excitement as she had finally been found. I tried to keep myself from having to show it in front of everyone. All my men were looking at me to know what I was going to do next from then on.

That made me nervous, as I was simply trying all that I could do to keep my wolf from showing himself. It was such a difficult moment as I was trying to keep up the demeanor of an angry boss who was after the girl who had messed up his whole day. But the girl who was in question was actually my mate and her scent was irresistible.

My cold hatred for werewolves was on the verge of being swallowed in the heat of the desires that were building up on my insides. All the memories of how the werewolves had ended my family were creeping back in as I stood there.

"Mr. Simpson... are you alright?" Jordan asked as he could see the struggles that were on my face. It was hard to conceal at that point.

"I'm fine..." I said as I tried to get myself together and to talk some sense into my wolf. 'Get it together Lex...!' I screamed to my wolf in my head as he was causing a whole lot of problems for me at that point.

"This is impossible..." she let out frightfully as she backed away again and she took off without saying another word to me.

"Let's get her at once...!" Jordan said as he ran quickly towards her with a whole lot of speed in his feet.

"Don't bother...! Let her be..." I said as I felt the emotions lessen as she was running away from me. It almost felt like the air around me was finally free of her alluring scent.

'Let's pursue her at once...!' Lex echoed in my head as he was fighting to take control of my impulses at that point. He was dangerously pushing for control and I just didn't want to give it to him just yet as it was bound to catastrophe if he did that right there. My cover would be blown at once.

'No... we won't be doing anything like that. We are going after Marcus and we will go home...' I let out as I was firm with my decision to keep still. After she had gone some distance, I was breathing a sigh of relief.

"You don't seem alright Mr. Simpson...?" Jordan came back to me, to check up on me like I was some kid who needed to be looked after. I hated that with everything that was in me, as it made me feel weak.

"I said I'm fine. How many times do I need to say that to you before you would get it?" I was overwhelmed by a torrent of mixed feelings that I just couldn't understand. I was both angry and fascinated at the same time as I was still trying to understand what had just happened to me a few moments ago.

"The manager at Vix place said that Marcus made his way out of there and zoomed off in his car." Jordan suddenly pulled my anger trigger as I was starting to feel anger more than the irresistible feeling of the mate pull.

"What...?" I asked angrily as I was sure that the manager had tipped Marcus in a bid to keep that disastrous confrontation from happening there. I was suddenly losing it as I was about to head over to the place where it had all begun. "I'm going to burn this place down..."

"Uhm... Mr. Simone, I think you should reconsider that. It's unnecessary for us to―"

"One more word and you would get caught up in the crossfire," I said to him with the angriest gaze that I could muster. "Stay out of my way and you don't get hurt."

As I was about to step into the place, my phone buzzed in my pocket. For some reason, I was sure that it was something important. Looking at the screen made me realize that my suspicions had been true after all.

"Hello... father..." I said with a sigh.

"Where are you...?" he asked with a grim voice. "Come here this instant..."
