Chapter 23 - Permanently fixed

Angela's Point of View

"Welcome home…" Georgia seemed rather too cheerful to see me that time around. I couldn't help but to wonder what could have been up with her all that time.

Even though I didn't want to admit it just yet, I was happy to see Georgia . After those couple of moments when I had felt like I would never see her again, I felt quite grateful to see her there.

Devin had seemed like he was going to really do the worst to me until we felt the mate pull.

"Sheesh…you're wet… what happened to you?" Georgia asked as she had stopped halfway while she was about to hug me. "Did it rain at the Vix place…?"

"It's a long story that I really don't want to go into…" I said as I was trying all that I could to avoid the part where I would have to tell the tale of what had happened to me and the guy who turned out to be my mate.

I was sure that she wouldn't understand a single thing about that if I said a single word about it. I didn't want to begin a conversation that I wouldn't be able to conclude.

"You look really worked up, like you were running up and down the place all through your shift. Your ratings should be over the top by now…." That was the only thing she had gotten right in all she had been saying.

"Well…" I just didn't know what to say as I was looking for ways to take the focus of the conversation away from me. "What about Ian?"

I was suddenly curious to know what exactly had transpired with the both of them. The thought of Ian knowing where we lived made me quite uncomfortable as I believed that he could possibly say something to Devin and that would help him find me in no time.

"He dropped me off after a really fun ride. I didn't expect him to be such a cool personality. He is nothing but sweet…" she was sounding really ecstatic about Ian.

Nothing short of weird seeing her act that way. But then, I had seen it coming anyway. From the way they had been exchanging corny glances with each other in the car

"Wow… I guess you both already have a long line of texts by now…" I said as I was off to the room to change my clothes as quickly as I could. But then, I noticed her smile was fading from her face sooner than normal. "What's that…?"

"I know this sounds a bit odd, but…" she struggled to say what was on her mind as she pursed her lips, "We didn't exchange contacts…"

"You're kidding, right?" I knew she was weird, but then I didn't know that she could be weird to the point of doing something that childish.

But then, I was a bit relieved that we wouldn't be having any contact with the silver haired guy again.

"Well… I was expecting him to make the move, but he didn't. I was doing everything right but he didn't make the move to get my number. Maybe that meant that he wasn't as interested in me as I was…" she sighed as she looked up.

"That's bad. I was already thinking you had finally met the one for you after all this time." I said, with a false show of regret while I was glad that it had happened that way. "I guess the search continues…"

"Ugh…" she said, sounding really pained, like she had gotten her heart broken that time around. "You're really making it sound even worse than it is.."

"I didn't mean it that way…" I said as I felt bad that I was glad about the source of her pain. "It's not like that… I'm sorry…"

"It's fine…" she said with a sigh. Georgia was really bad at hiding her emotions and it was simply hilarious seeing her try. "I'll just keep searching till someone else pops up. But I really like him…"

"Aww…" I said, feeling a slight twinge of guilt as it ebbed through me. "I would have given you a hug, but I'm still wet."

"Go ahead and take a shower…" she sighed as she made for the kitchen. "I'll be serving your favorite…"

"Good…" I hurried off to the shower as I couldn't wait to be all alone by myself. That usually gave me a lot of clarity. My mind was still clouded by all that had happened so far.

The sweetness of Devin 's scent was always returning to my head with every passing second. It began bringing memories of my rejection.

"No…" I found myself letting out the words that I had let out when I had been rejected by the bastard I had been mated to. I just couldn't stand the way my mind was going back to my past which I thought I had buried and moved past.

After the devastation I had faced at the hands of the mate who had rejected me, I had wanted to forget the fact that I was a werewolf and simply fit on with the humans.

That seemed to be the only thing that could take my mind away from everything. But then, Devin was right there to remind me that I was a wolf and that I had a second chance mate.

"Why wouldn't the moon goddess give him to someone else…?" I asked out loud as the water washed over me. There were probably others who needed a mate as good-looking and powerful as he was. Why wouldn't she give him to them instead?

I reflected on all that happened so far and wondered how in the blue moon I would carry on with him as he was already at odds with me.

"Angel …!" Georgia called out from the outside as her footsteps sounded close to where I was. "You've got a call…" she sounded quite excited at whatever the call was.

"What? From who?"

"The Vix place… you're hired to be a permanent staff…"

I turned off the shower to make sure I was hearing her well. "Say what now?"
