Angela's Point of View
"Get up! It's your first day at work…" Georgia was sounding like it was her own first day at work. "You can't afford to be late…"
The sound of her voice waking me up from my sleep, reminding me of that made me realize just how real all of that had been. I hadn't been troubled up until that moment when I was about to get up and head to the Vix place.
I could clearly recall the Disgrace that I had been through the day before, having all those people see me running from Devin . More than anything, I didn't want them seeing me again.
But then, I needed the money. It was way more than what I would earn with three months of going wherever the app would throw me. I was just one step away from gaining some stability in my life.
"Angel …? What are you still doing in bed…?" Georgia asked impatiently as she was staring at me with those judgemental eyes. "Seems you don't want to move out of here to the dream house that you keep staring at on your phone everyday."
Just who the heck did she think she was to give me all that motivational talk? I thought jokingly as I sat up in bed.
"I dry-cleaned the clothes you came back with last night." Georgia had me frightened with that at once as she was simply too passionate about my new job like it was hers. It was starting to give me some concern as it was way above normal.
"You did what?" I asked in abject disbelief as my jaw was almost dropping to my laps.
"I dry cleaned it… the clothes looked really good for a good first impression. I forgot to ask… where did you get them from?"
"Those were…" at the thought of how I was going to explain to her that I had run away with those clothes from there, I stopped halfway as I couldn't let her know the awkward buildup of events that had led to me returning with wet work clothes. "Fine, where are they…?"
"Right over there…" she pointed at the clothes which were nearly folded on top of my bedside stool. "I made you breakfast…"
"Wow… maybe I should get a new job more often…" I joked as I sprung out of bed and made for the shower.
"Yeah… you should." Georgia said as she headed out to the table by the window where her phone lay. "I did some research about your new workplace…"
"Research…?" I gasped as I undressed hurriedly. It was the last thing that I knew that she could do. But she was doing it with so much ease. "I am beginning to suspect something here."
"Calm down…" she laughed as she was scrolling through her phone. "The Vix place is more like a hotel and not just an overpriced restaurant for big boys in the city…"
"I see…" that information was quite insightful as I was beginning to like the idea of working in such a place. Regardless of the shame that I would have to take in.
Soon enough, I was done with the shower. My plan was to dress I'm something else before I would head over there to change. But then, Georgia was all over me about dressing up in the clothes she had dry cleaned.
"You look amazing in your new clothes…" she said as I was trying to keep myself from freaking out at the thought of showing up there with the same clothes I had taken off in.
"Yeah…" I muttered shakily as I was already feeling uncomfortable. The fear of them telling me to take it all off was more than anything else at the moment. "It's cool… thank you…"
"You're welcome…" she said cheerfully.
In my head, I had drafted the plan of stopping somewhere on the way to the Vix place and changing into normal clothes. That way I wouldn't be standing to lose anything at all if I was asked to take off the clothes.
"How about I accompany you on your first day of work?"
"What…?" I let out as I turned away from the mirror which I had been staring at all that time. "Don't you think you are actually going way overboard with this…?"
"It's totally fine. I won't be late for work if I just stopped by at your new place of work…" her smile was looking a bit delusional at that point as she was not acting like herself.
In my mind, I was beginning to wonder what exactly it could have been that was making her act that way. Could it be the disappointment from Ian the day before finally backfiring on her in the oddest way possible?
"Let's hurry…" she said as she soon stepped into the shower without any coercion at all. "We can't afford to be late…"
It couldn't get any weirder than that, as we were heading over for breakfast. We were done in an instant and were soon out of the house and headed for the bus station.
My heart was really thumping hard all through the bus ride was unusually long. It was quite awkward and amusing, the way I was constantly looking in my phone to know if they had actually given me that invite.
I felt a temporary relief each time I checked to see that they had actually sent it to me. I kept on doing that until we were there.
"We're here…!" Georgia was always there to remind me that we had actually reached our destination. "You can go now…"
"Oh…" I said as I took my things and zoomed straight for the exit. Soon enough, it was just me and the large door of the Vix place.
I took a couple of deep breaths before I took the bold step to head right into that place. As expected, all eyes were on me.
"Miss Angela Galen …" the manager called out to me with a loud voice, "my office… at once…"
I felt my heart skip as I wondered if I was in trouble.
