Devin 's Point of View
"Vampires have returned to the city…" his words hung in the air long after he had said them. I was wondering if that was just an effect that his presence created.
"How's that possible…?" I asked as I was taken aback by all of that. "I thought that we had expelled them for good. How are they back?"
"They never cease to seek dominance…" Marcus replied as he downed his glass of scotch. He was acting like we hadn't been at odds a few moments ago.
I was still had my revenge plans in mind as there was no way he would get away with that disrespectful act of breaking my chair in pieces.
"They are back in with even more force then before," my father continued. "It's quite dangerous the way they have been working in the backgrounds all this time. It has been a really gradual and intentional build up for them and they really mean business this time around."
"And they have been forming really strategic alliances with the local gangs and they also have plans of revenge for all that has been deprived of them." Marcus's voice got on my nerves with each word he said to me. "There's bigger fish to fry than an unnecessary beef over your chair."
"You had better not use that as an excuse to get away with your obvious disregard for the authority that was placed over you…" I just couldn't hold back my anger at that point, as he was still unapologetic about all he had done.
For some reason, my father wasn't saying anything to him to keep him from going on with all of his annoying talk which was really getting on my nerves.
"If only the authority who was put over me could be a bit more responsible with all that has been put under his care, then I could possibly consider giving him some regard…" Marcus's words stung hard and that made me retaliate.
"You should learn some manners you bastard…!" My anger had made me stand up at once before I could get a hold of myself. "Or I'll teach you some instead—"
"Get a grip of yourself…!" My father only got to speak up when he saw me reacting. It was almost feeling like I was being ganged up against by both of them.
In annoyance, I managed to get myself together without doing anything stupid. I couldn't wait I get that meeting over with so I could head back home where things could still go my way.
"That's the wrong thing to do now. We need to begin thinking of ways to do away with the vampires. They could become a serious threat if we allow them to fester for much longer. And you, Devin , are on the top of the list of the people that they are after." He sent shivers down my spine with those words that were rather emotionless.
I was speechless for a couple of moments as my mind was recollecting what it had been like the last time we had clashed with the vampires. They had driven me to my limits, to the point where I became the sole contributor to theit downfall.
"I doubt that you could actually fathom just how hard and quickly they are working." He went on, as Marcus had been quiet ever since. "They would be on your tail sooner than you know it and that means that you should be at the top of your game."
"Or maybe we could attack first…" Marcus added without looking at me. He seemed to know just how angry I was at that point. "You really don't know when they would come."
"I see…" the meeting was beginning to get too boring for me to carry on with it, and pressured me to leave as soon as I could. "Is there anything else…?"
They were both quiet for a while until my father stood to his feet. He walked to where the pianist was sweating for his life.
I just couldn't stand to watch any of that as the poor fellow looked like he was really having the fight of his life.
"Do you know why this man is still alive up till this moment?" He asked as he gave him a pat on the back while he was still playing beautifully under all of the pressure.
I didn't want to ask why as I knew he would still answer his own question himself. The sweat that dripped from the guy could have possibly drenched the mattress on the stool that he's was seated on.
"He's still alive because… in spite of all the pressure and all the stakes, he is still seated perfectly, playing his role without a single deviation."
Those words sounded like something that he was about to relate to me all over again. I was tired of hearing his constant sermons on loyalty.
"Anyone of you who dares to go outside of the role that had been assigned him, would pay a severe price for it and that doesn't leave anyone out at all." His eyes were locked in on mine and that was more than enough to let me know who he was taking to. "You can leave now…"
With that, I wasted no time in getting up and walking out of there without looking back. I didn't care want anyone had to say to me for that as I was simply unapologetic.
"Sir…" Jordan let out as he was looking a bit scared and shocked at the same time. The look on my face happened to deter him from saying anything else to me as he could clearly see that I wasn't in the mood for any of that.
I said nothing even till we got to the car. The heated emotions of anger and betrayal were simmering in my very being and I just didn't want to take it out on anyone just yet.
"Sir… I think there's something you would like to see…" Jordan finally said what had been stuck in his mouth for ages.
"I don't think I want to see anything for the time being…" I said, without looking at him for a moment.
"It's about the girl at the Vix place…" he went ahead anyway as he knew just what I would be interested in. "I got access to some surveillance cameras and was able to match her pictures with one at the California database…"
Now he had my attention.
