Chapter 9 - Demanding Questions

Devin's Point Of View

"Man! It's been thirty minutes plus since you promised to come check up on me and yet you aren't still here!" I yelled into the phone.

"Mr Devin, can you please calm down?" He said to me in a very calming tone which was getting on my nerves.

"I can't calm down! I can't! I am about to die here and you have the gut to tell me to calm down, I can't! Get yourself here, now!" I ordered but I know my ordering doesn't work on him.

"A dying man? You just have to calm down, I have got tons of patients waiting patiently for their turns to be attended to. I will be there when everything is under control here," he explained to me.

"Under control? When will that be? I am not under control here! And when you get here, there is a big possibility that nothing will be controllable, so get here now!" I yelled aggressively at him.

"Can you stop yelling? The phone is on speaker, you are scaring my patients!" He warned me.

"I won't stop until you get here!" I yelled again.

"Then I guess we will have to hang up the call. See you later, Mr Devin !" He said to me.

"What? Wait, should I..." and he seriously hung up the call on me.

"Shit!" I said before walking to the closet. I decided to change my clothes again and grab some comfy sweatshirt then proceed downstairs.

I immediately went straight to the kitchen, "for how long will you cook what I ordered?" I said as I entered the kitchen, startling her.

"Sorry sir, I had to go get some ingredients," she informed me before continuing with what she was doing. "The table is set," she announced.

"Call me Jordan!" I ordered her.

"Yes sir!" Was her tiny answer before walking out of the kitchen gently. She looks weary, I think I need to employ a much younger cook.

After what felt like an eternity at the table, Jordan appeared with Donna behind him.

"Sir, you called for me," he said after a light bow.

"Brief me!" I demanded as I continued with my meal. I could still feel my stomach acting funny but the growling had reduced and my throat didn't hurt anymore.

"The lead colonies were against the meeting being postponed, especially Mr Marcus of Okhmhaka Colony. He threw your seat at the head table away, breaking the crystal gems on the edge," he explained, showing me a picture taken of the chair.

"Okay... any other incident or situation," I asked as I calculated who this Marcus was.

"The lead Achlys Colony and the lead Okhmhaka Colony invited themselves into your home," he informed me before dropping two sealed envelopes on the table beside my dish.

"That won't be necessary as I will be going to the meeting soon," I informed him as I cleared my meals.

"Sir?" He asked with confusion.

"You heard me right," I said clearly.

"But sir, you canceled the meeting an hour ago or thereabout. Everybody has dispersed to his or her destination," he informed me.

"Like I care? Inform them now, notify them that the meeting will be held in twenty minutes and I won't wait for anyone. There is a punishment attached to lateness," I announced before getting up from the table.

"Sir?" Jordan stopped me.

"What?" I said with a look, he knows the meaning.

"Most of them have gone back to their colony, telling them now won't meet them well. Some might still be on the way and won't get the message early," he explained, pleading on their behalf. Such a nice guy, doing what won't benefit him, fighting for worthless people.

"I don't want the message to meet them well, so notify them but because of you, they have thirty minutes before the meeting starts," I said to him smiling. "Notify them now so you won't be blamed," I informed him with a change of expression for him to get the message.

"Okay, sir!" He answered behind me as I made my way to the bedroom.

This should be interesting.

*******

"I am sorry, you won't be able to see him," I heard Jordan tell someone, it's been barely five minutes since I left him.

Did the lead Achlys Colony and lead Aksel Colony come here? That won't be necessary! And what permission do they have to do that?

"So I see Devin is fine for him to reject me," a familiar voice answered. Shit! Ian!

"I'm sorry sir, but he is on his way to a very important meeting which he just reappointed," Jordan informed him.

"I get it, just tell him to stop disturbing me if he doesn't need my service," Ian informed him.

"So you will just leave without confirming if I am fine," I said to him from the stairs. He turned to face me with a smirk on his face.

"I was told you are fine so what's there to confirm? Your voice doesn't sound like a dying man's voice anymore and you look fine, physically," he announced.

"I look fine physically in anything but I know what I am feeling, I am not too fine on the inside," I informed him as I walked towards him, I waved at Jordan to dismiss him.

"I can see," he said, looking at me all over.

"You can't see anything," I said to him before folding my coat on the arm of the sofa.

"A patient knows what is wrong with him the most," he said to me before gesturing for me to take my seat.

"Whatever!" I said as he did his business on me.

"You have to tell me what happened," he asked me.

"Since I got home last night, I have become friends with the toilet," I informed him.

"Oh! So that's what you meant with the ridiculous text you sent to me, I figured it out," he exclaimed before stretching some drugs and a list of foods I can eat that will strengthen me.

"Just these?" I asked him.

"Yeah! Or what do you want?" He asked but I just stared at him in disbelief.

"Surgery? Injection? What? Nothing?" He kept asking while I just stood up and took my coat.

"You still haven't told me about last night," he demanded.

"In the car!"
