Chapter 17 - Uncle, thank you

"Two!"

James sounded the death countdown again.

"I choose!"

"I choose to kill them!"

Bennet Corey roared in pain, picked up the knife on the ground and walked towards Mrs Bennet.

"Don't blame me, if you don't die, we will all die."

The knife fiercely chopped on Mrs Bennet's head, and blood spurted out instantly, splashing Bennet Corey's face.

"Dad..."

Bennet Ellis retreated in fear towards the back.

But still couldn't escape the outcome of death.

"Are you satisfied?" Corey looked up at James, his face full of blood and extremely scary.

But James only glanced at him indifferently and withdrew his gaze. "Barely enough."

"From now on, the Bennet family will be removed from the ranks of the wealthy families. You guys who think you're better than everyone else should try living with everyone else.

James's words made the three members of the Bennet family look ashen.

Bennet Corey looked at James unwillingly, "You promised to spare my Bennet family, you can't do this!"

The Bennet family has offended not only a thousand but also eight hundred people over the years. If they lose their status as wealthy people and lose the hired thugs they keep, they will definitely be torn to pieces by those who have been bullied.

What's the difference between this and sentencing them to death?

"I only promised to spare your lives."

James turned his back and walked towards the basement in big strides.

He didn't have time to argue with Bennet Corey about these things, nor was it necessary.

He still had to rush back and check on his precious son and daughter.

Five hours later, as the sky gradually darkened and the dim yellow light illuminated the room, James sat motionless, tightly holding the hands of the two children who depended on each other for survival.

"Commander, please eat something,"Freya stood behind James, holding a lunchbox in her hands.

Since returning to the basement, James had not said a word except for instructing Freya on how to handle the orphanage. He had not even moved a muscle.

"You go ahead and eat. Don't worry about me," James shook his head, his gaze never leaving the two children.

"By the way," James turned his head, "have you prepared what I asked for?"

"Commander, everything has been prepared," Freya quickly replied.

"Okay." James responded, his gaze once again falling on the two children.

He had already checked their pulses and there was no major problem, but he was afraid of making a mistake, afraid of misdiagnosing some details.

Before this, James had never doubted his medical skills.

Except for this time.

It wasn't a life-threatening injury, but he was afraid of making a mistake and leaving some sequelae for the two children.

"Commander, don't worry. The two young masters will definitely recover," Freya tried to comfort him.

"Okay. James only responded with a single word, and Freya didn't even know if he had heard her.

"Sister..."

On the bed, Luke murmured and suddenly opened his eyes.

"Sister!"

He quickly sat up and scanned around with his eyes, and only breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Nita lying beside him with her chest rising and falling.

"Thank goodness you came, or both my sister and I wouldn't know what would have happened. Uncle, thank you," Luke said with gratitude on his face, looking at James sitting beside him.

"It's a good thing you came. Don't worry, I promise to keep my word. My life is now in your hands, and I'll do whatever you want me to do," Luke promised, but James's eyes turned red in an instant.

Looking at the young and mischievous face, he felt choked up and didn't know how to face Luke. They must have suffered a lot outside.

When James treated Luke just now, he found more than ten bruises of different sizes on his body, and there were three or four places where the flesh was torn and bloody. The wound on Luke's left forehead was completely torn apart, and the other side was also bloody. After wiping it with iodine, the bright red flesh was clearly visible. The piece of flesh missing from his leg was as big as three centimeters in diameter, and even if James's medical skills were superb, he could not guarantee that this position would not leave a scar.

Tears flowed uncontrollably down his cheeks, and James's rough hands trembled even more. "Uncle, why are you crying?"Luke looked at James with some confusion. Did this uncle have too much love and pity for him?

"Uncle, this little injury doesn't hurt." Luke raised his arm and grinned. "My dad said that a real man stands tall and doesn't shed tears even when he bleeds."

"Yes, it's a happy thing, you shouldn't cry." James wiped away his tears that were becoming more and more uncontrollable, and put his hand on Luke's head with difficulty. "But sometimes, what your dad said may not be right."

He didn't dare to directly reveal his identity as Luke's father, nor did he know how to face him as a father. This undefeated general who faced thousands of troops and horses without frowning was actually retreating and even evading at this moment. It was he who had abandoned this mother and son for six years.

But Luke still couldn't recognize him. "Yes, it is!" Luke said with some irritation, pulling his hand away from James. "My mom told me to remember everything my dad told me. My dad is a great hero, he wouldn't be wrong." Luke turned his back, but soon turned around again. "But Uncle saved me and my sister, so I won't blame you this time." Luke said generously, but then looked worriedly at Nita on the bed. "Uncle, my sister will be okay, right?" Luke watched as the doctor opened Nita's chest, and at that moment, he thought Nita was going to die for sure. But his sister was still breathing, which proved that she was still alive. "She'll be okay," James patted Luke's back.

"Uncle won't let anything happen to her."

"Cough, cough!" Nita coughed, and the two sitting by the bed immediately perked up. Luke even leaned closer to Nita. "Brother, brother." Nita opened her eyes with difficulty, her vision was a bit blurry, but she felt a shadow lying on her body. "Did you draw my blood well?" "Can you help my brother..."Nita had just said a few words when she started coughing violently again.

When the coughing stopped, Nita's vision became clearer, and she looked at Luke with surprise. "Brother, are you okay?!" "Yeah," Luke nodded hard, and he turned his head to think for a moment.

"After they drew enough blood from you, using it as a cure, they saved your brother with it," Luke said with a smile.

He bore all the darkness on his own shoulders, not forgetting how pitiful he begged for mercy was just now, nor forgetting James's grace that came from nowhere.

It wasn't that he forgot, but he didn't want his sister to know about the darkness of the world, nor did he want her to see it.

Girls should always live in the sunshine. He was powerless to make it happen, so he could only do his best to cover up and hide, at least letting his sister see the light.

That way, it would be better.
