Is that so?" Nita weakly smiled. She felt happy that she could help her brother. That was her simple joy.
"But what about the uncle who helped brother?"
"Nita hasn't had a chance to thank him yet," Nita said, looking at the empty room with disappointment.
Luke nervously looked at James. He was afraid that James wouldn't help him cover up the lie.
If his sister knew everything he had suffered...
"They're busy with something else. Your brother has already thanked them," James said with a smile as he rubbed Nita's head.
"I see," Nita said, getting up with a smile.
The pain in her chest made her frown again.
"Don't move," James and Luke both exclaimed. James then picked up Nita and said, "Uncle will take you away from this place. You're still weak, so rest first."
Nita obediently nodded and let James carry her out the door. Luke followed quietly behind, watching. He didn't know what his fate would be, but this uncle seemed nice and wouldn't harm them, right?
The four of them walked out of the gate together. One hundred meters away, James turned around and glanced at Luke.
"This place is dirty, right?"
Luke nodded heavily as he looked at his sister sleeping in James's arms.
"Then let them disappear."
James smiled and looked at Freya beside him. "Blow it up, along with those dirty people."
"Got it!" Freya pressed the button, and in an instant, flames shot up into the sky.
"Boom!"
"Boom boom!"
Explosions sounded one after another, and the large orphanage was reduced to rubble in an instant.
Luke's eyes became even more red. He remembered the words he had said to James earlier and quickly wiped his eyes.
"Uncle, thank you."
These words came from the heart.
"No need to thank me." James patted the head of Nita in his arms and muttered to himself in a voice only he could hear, "This is what a father should do."
°°°°°
In the military jeep, Freya drove the car. James held the sleeping Nita on the left, and Luke sat quietly on the right, looking out at the starry sky with his big eyes, tears welling up even more.
"What are you looking at?" Jamesturned his head and asked.
"Stars," Luke replied. Perhaps feeling too perfunctory, he added, "Mom said that after people die, they turn into stars in the sky and watch over their loved ones.
They will always accompany them and protect them."
"When Dad died before, Mom used to take me and Nita to look at the stars. Mom said the brightest one was Dad."
"Now..."
"I want to find Mom's star, but I don't know where it is..."
Luke's voice trailed off as he burst into tears. All the bravado of being a little man was just a facade. He was still just a ten-year-old child.
James leaned over and pointed to the star next to the North Star. "Do you see that one? It's the brightest one next to Dad's star. Mom went to be with Dad, so she must be next to him."
Luke stared at the person in front of him for a while before nodding vigorously. "Uncle, thank you!"
James reached out and rubbed Luke's head.
"By the way, do you have any other relatives in Michigan besides your parents? If you do, I can send you back to them."
James wanted to make sure whether Luke wanted to go back to his uncle's house or not. If he did, he needed to think about how to get along with his uncle in the future.
Luke had his own judgment ability now. If he knew that he was alive but had never received any news about him, he would probably not be able to accept it!
"Yes," Luke answered firmly, his face full of sincerity.
"Uncle, I don't want to lie to you... but can you not take me back?" Luke's eyes had a hint of pleading, as if he was afraid that James would take him and Nita back home.
"Your family doesn't treat you well?"James asked in confusion.
"No," Luke quickly shook his head. "I don't want to trouble them because..."
Luke hesitated for a moment, still not wanting to lie.
"My mother and grandfather offended someone from the Hill family. The Hill family said that they would kill anyone who dared to take us in. I... don't want to go back. My grandfather and aunt have soft hearts, they won't be able to bear to let me and Nita leave again."
"But if you don't go back..."
Luke bit his lip, his fists clenched tightly.
"They will die!"
Luke was unwilling, but what could he do?
He was now a wild child who couldn't go home. It was difficult enough for him to take care of Nita, and he didn't want to burden others.
He took a deep breath and lowered his head seriously to James. "Uncle, thank you so much for today."
"But I can't trouble you. Uncle, it's not that I don't want to repay you, but I can't follow you now. It will only bring you trouble."
"That Hill family is very powerful."
Luke was afraid that James didn't know, so he pointed his little finger out of the car window. "My grandfather told me that the Hill family owns half of Michigan."
"So Uncle, just find a place to put me and my sister down later, it's okay," said Luke with a smile. He and Nita being rescued was already the greatest luck they could have.
"I understand," James smiled and placed his hand on the little one's head.
He really wanted to tell Luke that since he, James, had returned to Michigan, the whole place had changed. Even if Luke wanted, he could take down not just Michigan, but the entire state.
He, James, was the war god of the Great Texas, the only person in the past few decades to be called "unmatched in the country".
But he couldn't say it.
Luke wouldn't forgive him for being powerful, but would hate him for it.
He would hate him for not coming back to save his grandfather and mother!
"But letting you go is not okay. You promised to repay me in this lifetime," said James with a smile, grabbing Luke's hand that was reaching out of the window.
"The Hill family was destroyed by a big shot a few days ago, so you don't have to worry about this," James said with a smile.
Luke widened his eyes, tears shimmering in them.
"Is it true?" he asked, trembling.
"Yeah," James affirmed, and Luke tears burst out uncontrollably.
The Hill family was gone!!
Grandfather, grandmother, and mother's revenge had been avenged!
As his mother said, good people get good rewards, and bad people don't live long!
The Hill family was really gone!
"Mom..." Luke looked at the stars beside the North Star. "Can you hear me?"
"Hill family is no more!" With revenge finally achieved, Luke was excited, but soon buried his head and wept.
"But Mom can't come back to life."
"My sister and I have been homeless for a long time."
"Who said that?" James patted Luke's head.
At that moment, he realized that he had to tell them that their father had returned.
They were not homeless children anymore!
