Chapter 23 - Family photo

The man's anger startled Nia, and she immediately snapped out of it.

She almost forgot the man's identity.

He was the young master of the Lopez family in the provincial capital, named Lopez Nolan. The Lopez family was not a top-tier family in the provincial capital, only barely making it to the third tier, but in this small Michigan city, their background was stronger than the Hill family's.

The reason why Smith Jay dared to claim that he knew a big shot was because Nia had hooked up with this young master.

Smith jay claimed to know the big shot who had destroyed several families, but he was preparing to replace him with Lopez Nolan. Although the Lopez family in the provincial capital couldn't compare to the big shot who could shake the entire Michigan city with just one outburst, they did have some connections in the military.

So it was easy to fool these bumpkins in Michigan city.

As for impersonating and being blamed by the big shot, Jay believed that the big shot was too lazy to bother with their small actions. That man was someone who could almost make the entire Michigan collapse with just one move!

"Yes, I'm sorry." Nia, like a frightened wild cat, shrank into Nolan's arms, looking at him with pitiful eyes.

"I was just angry for a moment, can you forgive me?"

Nia's small hand drew circles on Nolan's chest, her seductive appearance making Nolan's heart burn.

He was attracted to Nia because she was too good in a certain aspect, making it impossible for him to give her up.

"Okay, I won't blame you."

Nolan grabbed a handful of Nolan's chest and frowned, looking in the direction the car had left.

That useless man almost caused him to lose face!

According to Nia, the man just now seemed to be Smith family's useless son-in-law. It would be better to blame him for not being able to get in.

"By the way, Nia, I didn't think of it earlier when we were looking for the property certificate, but I saw the person who drove in this morning," Lopez Nolan's brow furrowed deeper. "He washed my car today, and the property certificate was on the back seat!"

"What do you mean?" Nia was momentarily confused, but she quickly understood.

"Are you saying that he stole your property certificate?" Nia's eyes widened in anger.

She looked like she had expected this all along. "No wonder, I knew this loser couldn't afford a house here. He stole it from us!

"We can't let this go. We need to go in and make him return the house, and then I'll tell my dad and have him take care of the guy!" Nia was like a mother tiger, her foxy face twisted in anger.

The fact that this loser had their property certificate made her feel incredibly frustrated, angry, and disgusted. She felt sick just thinking about the three of them living in their house, which was probably filled with a foul smell.

"Well, we can tell my uncle about it, but as for going in..." Nolan glanced at the security guard. "We don't have the property certificate, so I'm afraid we can't go in."

Nia stomped her foot in frustration at the security guard's fake smile. "Then we'll go back and tell my dad, and have him notify that loser!"

"Yes, I want him to come back and kneel in front of me with the property certificate, only then can I be satisfied!"

Meanwhile, in the jeep.

Luke tilted his head and looked at James, with one thing he couldn't understand.

"Uncle, do you know my fierce and noisy aunt?"

Luke was referring to Nia, not Lisa, as his aunt. He had seen Nia talking to James when they were in the car earlier. Although he couldn't hear what they were saying, from Nia's appearance, it seemed like she had known James for a long time.

"Oh, Uncle, my aunt is so fierce. I'm scared of her," said Nita, who was playing with a doll in the back seat.

Jay nodded and didn't intend to deceive the two children. "We knew each other a long time ago. When I met her, she was only a little older than Luke, around ten years old?"

James couldn't remember clearly. When he left, Nia's fierceness and arrogance had already taken shape. At that time, Nia looked down on everyone.

However, in terms of looks, Nia was actually much less attractive than Lisa and Mary. Mary had a cold beauty, and Lisa had the innocent and pure style of a girl next door, which Nia couldn't compare to.

Beauty lies in the bone, not in the skin.

"It's been so long," Luke replied absentmindedly. He forgot what he wanted to ask and started braiding Nita's hair out of boredom.

The car was driving fast and soon stopped outside the largest villa on the mountaintop. Looking at the huge yard, Nita ran out happily.

"Big yard!"

The yard was already furnished, and the flowers and plants were well taken care of.

"Wow, a turtle!"

"Brother, come and see, there's a puppy here too!"

Following the direction of Nita's small hand, there was a Husky tied up at the door, staring wide-eyed. James had specially prepared this dog for Nita, fearing that the siblings would be bored at home and wanted to have some company. Online, it was said that Huskies had good endurance and resistance.

"Why does this dog look so silly?" Luke looked at the Husky and couldn't help but feel a little amused.

"It's not silly at all," Nita retorted.

Standing with her hands on her hips, she walked quickly to the Husky's side and stroked its head with her small hand.

"Brother, what should we call it?"

"How about Piggy?" Luke suggested.

As soon as he finished speaking, he was glared at by Nita.

"It's clearly a dog, how can we call it Piggy?"

"Then what should we call it?"

"Brother, your naming skills are terrible. I think we can call it Piglet, which sounds much better!"

Watching Luke and Nita playing with the dog in front of the door, James smiled slightly and walked into the room.

The room, like the courtyard, had been specially decorated. James had chosen two adjacent rooms and put Luke and Nita's belongings in them respectively. As James opened Luke's backpack and prepared to sort out the items inside, a photo in the backpack made him freeze.

It was a family portrait.

The family portrait was taken six years ago when he left. At that time, Luke was only a little boy, but he was already very mischievous. In the family portrait, Luke was pulling James's hair, and Mary was smiling happily.

The picture froze, and James looked at his own appearance in the photo, then raised his head and looked at the mirror not far away.

The changes were really significant.

Six years of military service had transformed him from a delicate young man into a rugged middle-aged man.

James rubbed his beard and muttered, "No wonder my son didn't recognize me."

As he spoke, Luke's voice came from the doorway, "Uncle, that's a photo my mom left behind. Please don't damage it."

"This is the only photo I have left," he replied in a low voice.
