Chapter 27 - Looking for clues

"I want to know, does Uncle know where Mary went?" James didn't beat around the bush and got straight to the point.

"Where did Mary go?" Chad's eyes showed a hint of anger.

"My daughter took you to Mary's grave two days ago. Don't tell me you didn't even take a look?"

"I did see it, that's why I'm asking." James stared at Chad, hoping to read something from his eyes.

But the result was disappointing. Chad seemed to really not know what had happened.

"In Mary's coffin, there was no body." James sighed and lowered his head in frustration.

"I'll go upstairs and see if Mary left anything behind."

With that, James walked towards the second floor without looking back.

It wasn't until James disappeared that Chad came back to his senses. "What did you say? Mary wasn't in the coffin!?"

Chad stood up from the sofa, wanting to chase after James, but was stopped by Alice.

"Do you still not understand what James meant?" Alice held onto Chad's hand as she looked at his angry expression.

"James probably discovered something. Mary... might not be dead!"

Mary's analysis left Chad frozen in place.

Mary wasn't dead? How was that possible? What about the video...

But if Mary was dead, James wouldn't have come to question him about where Mary went.

Chad's expression was complex, but James, who had already left, clearly didn't care about what Chad was thinking. He just wanted to find more clues.

This gave Mary a greater chance of being found sooner.

James entered Mary's room and sat down at the familiar desk once again.

"Mary, will you give me some clues?" he asked gently, running his hand over the desk and picking up the diary once more.

The diary was filled with densely packed words, with few expressions of longing, but every word spoke of missing someone.

It recorded all of Mary's daily life, as if waiting for James to understand.

When James closed the diary, it was already five in the evening.

He turned off the alarm on his phone and quickly scanned the room, but found nothing suspicious or useful.

"I have to go pick up the two kids now," he said reluctantly, taking one last look at the room before heading downstairs.

When he reached the first floor, Chad rushed up to him. "James, you have to explain to me what it means that Mary isn't in the coffin."

"Uncle, did you see Mary's body before the funeral?" James asked, turning slightly to face him.

Chad shook his head, remembering that Mary's coffin had been delivered to the door by the Hill family, and Hill Chris had told him it was Mary's body.

The coffin was nailed shut, and with the video of Mary being humiliated spreading throughout the city, he couldn't bear to face her body and didn't open the coffin to check.

James's question made him feel like he was waking up from a dream.

"I pried it open and looked, but it wasn't there," James frowned as if he was thinking about something.

After a while, James spoke again, "Uncle, please try to recall if there are any details that don't seem right. If you find anything, please tell me as soon as possible. There's a chance that Mary is still alive."

"As for Smith Jay, you don't need to worry. If he goes too far, I'll take care of him," he added.

After James finished speaking, he didn't linger and the arrogant words seemed to come out of his mouth effortlessly. He strode out of the villa and saw Freya had already parked the car and was walking towards it.

The car started and James sat in the back seat flipping through several reports. Seeing that they were all about things the previous governor needed to pay attention to, he put them aside.

"Have you found any news about Mary?" he asked, furrowing his brow.

"No," Freya nodded in response.

"Who did you send to investigate?" James asked.

"The Vermilion Bird Camp is investigating this matter with all their might, in addition to their daily inspections. Brown Beek has also specifically made arrangements and several organizations are monitoring the Logan family," Freya explained.

The Vermilion Bird Camp had a total of 100,000 people, and the entire intelligence network was spread throughout the world like a spider web. Brown Beek was the intelligence center of the Vermilion Bird Camp. So theoretically, it was enough to rely on them.

However, Freya was afraid of missing out on some information, so she also contacted several old acquaintances to investigate this matter together.

"It's not enough," James shook his head. "Increase the intensity of the investigation. I'm not just looking for information in Texas, but in every corner of the world. Contact the leaders of those countries and tell them that whoever can provide accurate information about my wife. I, Logan James, owe them a favor."

Freya couldn't help but turn her head and look at James. The favor of a military lord was something that any country's leader would beg for but never receive.

Who in the world didn't know that the military lord valued promises the most?

It was not an exaggeration to say that this favor was worth its weight in gold!

It was worth noting that with James's ability, one favor was enough to save the life of anyone in a position of power. This was an extra way out, an extra chance to save one's life. Who wouldn't want that?!

Freya could even imagine that when this news came out, the whole world would once again be plunged into madness.

"General, Freya will contact the person immediately," Freya said as the car stopped in front of Star Elementary School.

James didn't rush to get out of the car. Instead, he checked his watch and waited for Luke to appear. He didn't want his son to become a person of influence, nor did he want him to be trapped in the world of money from a young age. Therefore, he never mentioned how wealthy he was to Luke.

After waiting for about five minutes, James suddenly remembered something. "Freya, I have one more thing to ask you to do. Please contact the CEO of Adams Corporation and ask him to open a branch in Michigan. I want to support my uncle."

James didn't care who ended up with the Smith family, as long as they don't ruin her father's reputation. However, he needed to support Smith Chad's family. He could tell that they genuinely cared for Mary and Luke.

Just for this reason, James would ensure their lifelong prosperity.

"Okay, how about a ten billion investment project?" Freya asked.

"That's not enough. Double it," James replied, just as his phone rang.

Seeing an unfamiliar number, James hesitated for a moment before answering.

"Is this Luke's parent?"

Before James could speak, an angry voice came through the phone. "Yes. You need to come to my office right away. If you're late, don't blame me for expelling your son. Your son has eaten the heart of a bear and the gall of a leopard. He dared to hit Hayes Shane."

It seemed that Luke had caused trouble at school.

"Alright, I don't feel like wasting any more time with you. Ten minutes, if you're not here by then, go straight to the principal's office to withdraw from school."

"Seriously, what's wrong with him? Now I'm going to get scolded by Boss Hayes..."

The phone hung up as the teacher muttered to herself, and James's face immediately darkened.

Luke actually physically assaulted a classmate at school?
