We have been hounded by there Hazari for days, trying to capture us. The change of power source made their 'dilithium planetoid' bait completely ineffective. For one thing Voyager didnt even change course.
Instead they took to slowly moving ships into a slowly shrinking bubble around the ship. Each ship are days of travel away from Voyager, but they move in very slowly to make sure there are always ship to intercept no matter what Voyager try to do.
And now we have been contacted by this 'Think Tank'.
"So, let's go over this again. We are suddenly hounded by bountyhunters for no real reason. Then we get contacted by a 'Think Tank', a group that can solve our problem for the small, small price of a bunch of random stuff and Seven of Nine. This is Arturis all over again." I comment as I lean back against the couch in the Captains readyroom.
"Exactly what I was thinking as well. They engineered this entire thing to try and get their hands on Seven of Nine. Wouldn't surprise me if they hired the bountyhunters in the first place." she comment as she hand over a cup of green tea "One sugar, right?" and I nod
"The question is...do the bountyhunters know who hired them? A group with the methods of this 'Think Tank' should have brought some ire down on their own heads. Wouldn't surprise me if their price is bigger than ours. So how did they get the bountyhunters to work for them instead of hunting them?"
She take a sip of her Coffee and nod "Good question...perhaps we should contact the Hazari. If we could get them to listen..."
Getting in contact with the Hazari was the easy part. Getting them to listen...took more work. In the end it took capturing two Hazari that went in on a attack run on the ship and showing them the sensor readings of the 'Think Tank's' ship.
The rest of the plan was pretty much the same as in OT. It's not a bad plan to draw them out so the Hazari could swoop in to catch them.
Would have been nice to be able to capture some of that super tech of theirs though...
A week later I am in sickbay, speaking to the Doctor
"You want what?" he ask as he read through the PAD I handed over.
"A cortical array. The idea came from the Borg, Seven helped me with the general design, using federation technology. It don't got a single part of Borg technology in it." I answer while leaning against the console in the sickbay
He frown slightly "I thought I was clear when I said 'no brain enhantments' when we started this. The risks are to big."
I shrug "That was before you got a ton of experience on cybernetics from both Seven and me. Also, this is a proven technology even if the design itself is new. It will also hook into my cerebral subprocessor we installed to work as a networking node between my implants and biological systems. It dont require any actual brain connections. All it need to be done is to be connected to the cerebral subprocessor. The risk is minimal."
The Doctor shake her head and put the PAD down "Changing the way your brain work got a huge risk to itself. It could completely change who you are."
I frown slightly "This do not change the way my thought processes work and you know it, Doc. Its a memory archive, nothing else."
He nod "It can still seriously affect your personality and brainfunctions. I'm sorry, but this is still a no."
"Damn it Doctor. You have nixed my last three suggestions of improvements." and he nod
"That's correct. They where all either to dangerous or to invasive or carry to big of a risk."
Sighing I shake my head "Most useful things that can be done without it have already been done. I got not use for more arms. You even nixed the internal air supply!"
He nod "It would have required significant modifications to your lungs to connected them to the oxygen recycler."
"Oh come on, we are in space, Doc. That if anything is a useful addition! Being able to function for over a hour with life support shut down is damn useful!" and he nod
"So it may be, but it is to invasive. My ethical subroutines will not allow needless surgery of that magnitude. The installation of your extra limbs was on the border and only reason I even did that was that the Captain ordered me to."
I just rub my forehead softly "Sometimes you are very hard to work with. Very well, I'm going to try and find something acceptable for you to do. But just so you know Doctor, some things are not going to go away and this is one of them. Sooner or later my brain are going to need to start become enhanced."
"And I will most likely veto it then as well." he answer before finishing he scan of me "The rest of your implants and body are in good condition. Looks like the genetic sequencing the hirogen forced me to preform where as stable as I hoped. You are good to go for now."
